They wanted him out. It wasn't the last thing they wanted. They completly blocked him out so he got depressed and became to dependent on drugs. He is the Gratest GN'R drumer though, I agree whith you on that. Steven Adler fucken rocks!

Duff, Slash and Izzy look more fucked up than Adler.
Slash said he was going through bottles of Jack Daniels and Heroin at this time...Izzy was on cocaine...you could tell the difference in his face at Rock in Rio. Duff was on Heroin as well. Axl..who knows he used to have Oxygen tanks backstage, he probaly had nitrous as well but he was never as fucked up as the others.
To fire Adler though was a stupid move and Adler got the last laugh when he got a multi million $ settlement in court.

Adler couldn't record Civil War as he was given drugs for opiate addiction witout proper instructons and they just made him 10 times more strung out. I've been there, that's a legitimate reason for not being able to play, it would be impossible. But, give him a week or two and he would be fine.
Slash and Izzy were just as bad, they nearly messed up the Ted Nugent gig because they were too sick to play and they weren't even seeking help!!

Great performance. It's a shame that Steven couldn't hold it together. When they played Civil War, coming out to the stage he fell over into the drums or something if I remember correctly.

A little note: I saw this when it was broadcast live, this concert was sponsored by Dick Clark who had banned G'nR from his live events previously because of foul language. This was a "second chance" so to speak. What is missing at the end of the clip is after Axl says "good effin night" you hear Dick Clark moan loudly and then it cut to a TNN station ID! It was really funny when it happened if you knew the circumstances!

Damn, Adler's drugs problem is showing in his drumming.
At 0:39 his kick goes slightly lower tempo of not being able to keep up the tempo.
At 0:47 the kick is a bit to slow.
And there are few more, but I cba to point em all out.
Don't get me wrong I am not to bash here, if all it's sad :(

ya they did.. this conert was Farm Aid IV in 1990, witch was the last show with steven, but they did recored it again with matt and gilby in 1993 for the spagetti incedent

Wow, he performed this song like twice in 06 as well! Axl sounds even better in 06 actually! Just amazing, Axl is truly the one of the greatest frontmen of all time.
Great performance. It's a shame that Steven couldn't hold it together. When they played Civil War, coming out to the stage he fell over into the drums or something if I remember correctly.

they for sure played it before the spagetti incedent because the last show they did was on the use your ilusion tour and that ended 1993 so if they played it live it was before

this was last steven's show and izzy left after wembley stadiums one in 1991. They were replaced by matt sorum on the drums and gilby clark on the rythym guitar

A little note: I saw this when it was broadcast live, this concert was sponsored by Dick Clark who had banned G'nR from his live events previously because of foul language. This was a "second chance" so to speak. What is missing at the end of the clip is after Axl says "good effin night" you hear Dick Clark moan loudly and then it cut to a TNN station ID! It was really funny when it happened if you knew the circumstances!

yeah,, cos didn't he try and jump to the drum riser and missed completely or something,, i read the slash autobiography but it all kinda blends into one in my brain, but, i seem to remember he said that steven was so high that he went to jump onto the drum riser and mis judged it and fell or something,, i'm not perfectly sure so don't hold me to it
