the plot to this game.......um yeah there have benn better the fact that there were so many characters drained the story from having a good plot. but nonetheless still a good game.
Damn this brings me back to being 15 when the game came out and how much I loved it. So colorful, beautiful art and music, although the story was confusing for a while. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time, but I thought this was worthy of the "Chrono" name too.
Chrono Cross's characters and story sucked, but the music, graphics, and gameplay made up for it. The way I see it, this game is fun if you don't take the plot too seriously.

Played CT for the first time about 3 months ago and it was the single best video game I've ever played. After finishing it, immediately decided to replay CC for the first time in 10 years. It was fucking awful. Nowhere near as good as I remembered. Element system is retarded, replacing levels with stars was a terrible idea, and there basically is no plot until the last quarter of the game (and even then it's still convoluted).
seriously, it was a game all its own... why did so many purists of the original game pan this game?! oh my god its DIFFERENT!... that doesn't somehow make it BAD! I loved every minute of this game, and this music was something I always looked forward to for boss fights.
Chrono Cross was good. It just that the way it tried to mix Chrono Trigger, and failed horriblely at it too, in it caused the CT to hate it. Also majority of the character seems to have no true impact in the main plot... Didn't stop me from collecting those that I wanted. >.>
Chrono Cross never did resolve what happened to the 3 heroes. I mean, they said Lucca was killed but we only have Kid's say-so. Did she really see what happened? For all we know the 3 original heroes may not even be dead...
Lucca died when the orphanage burned down. Crono and Marle's fates were still undetermined. The only clue that they too were dead is that all 3 showed up as ghost children on the beach before the final battle.
They say that Guardia Kingdom fell in CC if I remember right, so we can assume Crono and Marle died with it, being the Prince/Princess(Or King and Queen by that point, who knows)
@FinalFantasyXIILover - Chrono Cross's story resolves what happened to Schala at the end of Chrono Trigger. Schala (aka Kid) was reborn into a baby that Lucca found and raised. Then Lynx killed Lucca and Schala wanted revenge. If you get the good ending by playing the song for the Time Devourer, Schala feels better. The end.
Here is my understanding, Serge was supposed to die (drown) at a young age from Fate, but was saved by Schala. From that point, it was his destiny to save her. So really, the story is about what truly happened to Schala and saving her. Cheating fate was one of the perquisites.
He's right you know this is the boss battle theme and you can't avoid them. this soundtrack is great it's one of the many I've got. The odd thin about Cross is that it's actually a merger of original plot plus the plot of Radical Dreamers a game that we never got in North America that's why it seems so confusing at times. the game is still great and I'd love to see another Chrono sequel but that's not going to happen.

Well the fate of Crono and crew is left unstated(except for Lucca). However what more than likely happened is hinted at in Lucca's letter to Kid, when she is afraid that someone from their future might come back in time to kill or capture them. Given the situation with Porre that seems very likely. However what's happened after the resolution of Cross is a different matter altogether.
The most likely fate of Crono is that he died (TO FUCKING DALTON) during the fall of Guardia. Some theorize that he ran away to Arni village, changed his name to Miguel, and raised his daughter Leena. There is some backing to this. Miguel is a White Innate, he's ludicrously powerful, and his daughter Leena is pretty much Marle with Crono's color scheme.
Chrono's fate is most likely what happened at the end of CT. The problem with CC in its entirety is that when serge lived it split 2 dimensions chrono was not ever around int he dimension serge survived in. There was no one to kill lavos in this dimension. Chrono and company achieved killing lavos in their dimension. This whole plot was started by belthasar to save schala. He knew everything that was going to happen. So to summarize chrono and team are probably alive in their own dimension
But don't Trigger > Cross take place in the same timeline? And Crono and Co. can't really be alive in either dimension because H World was created in 1010, and shares the same history with A World right up until that year, so the Fall of Guardia happens in either timeline.
Just got this game, always wanted to know what the deal was with the Chrono games. Haven't played this one and I just recently bought the PSX version of Chrono Trigger too. XD
CT is better then CC, but if you think about it, the reason is because of character design, and maybe the homogenization of spell skills, it takes the direct meaning of having a certain character in your party, everyone is the same, plus the story is really shady, and it doesn't really give you much information as to what is going on, unlike CT where the plot and story are all given to you. You "have" to try and relate CC to CT otherwise it's almost a whole new game. I personally love them both
As much as I would like to agree with you, isn't it supposed to be more about alternate times, rather than alternate dimensions? The main joy of Chrono Trigger was crossing through different times, bringing with it a feel of adventure, wonder, and discovery. Chrono Cross is an AWESOME game, but the few references you made is not enough to bank a supposed-to-be sequel on. In this case, with an emphasis on improved combat, plot development took a savage hit, creating many loopholes along the way.
For some reason, back when I was an RPG addict, I could not get into this game AT ALL. I have always hated it. Absolutely loved Chrono Trigger but Cross IMHO just failed. The song is pretty cool though, quite enjoyable.
I just remember being very bored in the beginning up to the point where you cross worlds for the first time, then you start thinking....."why the hell doesnt anyone remember me.." From then on I was just focused finding the jist of all things. What I loved about the game was the amount of characters and paths a player could take, the combinations were endless.

I never owned a SNES so I never got the chance to play it, but once I played this game I wanted to test it out, but I couldn't get into it like this game. I enjoyed having lots of characters to choose from.

Exactly. The problem wasn't it being a bad game, the problem was that it was actually trying to write itself off as an actual 'concrete' sequel to Chrono Trigger. And no, cheap references to Chrono Trigger DOES NOT COUNT. It's kind of like Final Fantasy XII.... those people at SquareEnix really needs to quit Bull Shitting with us. That game had Vagrant Story written all over it, and they wanted us to believe that it was a completely original game? Come on man, they could do better than that.
I don't think you understand the story in CC or CT, its very tied in at the end it is 100% answering parts of the story that need to be answered in the whole chrono series.
@deth2munkies there was a plot dump but it wasn't that big. In fact the story was progressing very smoothly until that point. Luckily a lot of the plot dump was just explaining out right some things they had been hinting to. That was a flaw but I think the over amount of characters was what I didn't like about it. random wrestler, and that creature from the painting. I didn't mind the bunny girl

True that! It has some the most amazing music ever, I especially can't get enough of A Shot of Crisis, which is the chase theme in Trigger. Splendid stuff.
It wasn't good mainly because of the bulk of characters and lack of substance, and although Serge had a character, it was no where near as good as Cronos, Cross may have been awesome if they had a revamped battle system of Trigger, and 7 select characters that were around most of the time and had plot (Glenn, Kid, I dunno).
Cross was a pretty solid game however there were definitely too many characters, which stunned the development all around. It was unfortunate given the intrigue presented with: Glenn, Kid, Karsh, Viper, Norris, Guile and even the enemies Lynx and so forth.

I played this game and forgotten most of it, except one FMV in which Kid (was that her name?) looked pretty good. Frankly, I didn't think much of this game. Boring, really. And the three attack scheme with hit percentages just meant more button presses.
This battle theme was good, but there are many better ones out there.
I'm so angry that these games are so hard to find now, i mean like, Suikoden 2, Saga frontier, and of course chrono cross, i would honestly trade my 360, and everything i have for it, just for suikoden 2 alone. :(

Ugh, this game was one of my worst impulse purchases ever. Anyone who says this was good or that they enjoyed it either has terrible taste in games, wanted to like it out of respect for Chrono Trigger enough to actually convince themselves, or both. It is a *travesty* of a sequel. My 2 cents on that aside, it did have some great tracks (like this one), but this soundtrack as a whole was Mitsuda at his worst. The main battle theme... uggghhh...

Oh, what the hell, I'll bite. This game, especially compared to a masterpiece like Trigger, was fucking *terrible*. I can't believe I even need to explain it. The music outside of a few standouts was terrible, the battle system was janky and unsatisfying. The motif and atmosphere of the game was sleep inducing. Far too many undeveloped characters. Just, c'mon man, there are far, FAR more and far better JRPGS than this overrated piece of shit. Play more games.
No, and we're not talking about Square-Enix, we're talking about the individual composer Mitsuda. He made some excellent music for Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, and a few tracks in this game, but it's pretty much his worst effort.

OK, here's something positive for you: Maybe we'll see a real sequel to Chrono Trigger that won't suck balls as hard as this game does some day. That aside, the music wasn't necessarily bad in this game (AWFUL, TERRIBLE battle theme aside (not the one in the video)). It was just kinda boring in general and not the composer's best compared to his others.

In a way, I agree and disagree. As far as I know, DQ III is the first RPG game to have an actual final boss theme, which is why it placed in first. However, I don't think it should have gotten #1 for that alone (although I do agree that DQ is very, very overlooked nowadays, especially after seeing what FF has turned into lately).
Now that I think about it, SE should stop focusing on those FF spinoffs (note: I didn't say main game entries), make 'Chrono Break', and finish developing DQ IX.
While this game only had vague ties to Chrono Trigger and did not really further the established story, it was awesome. Just ahead of its time. Thats why it never got the cred it deserved.
It was incredibly confusing , just like killer 7 and silent hill 2. To fully understand the story you had replay the game several times , doing all the side quests and with different characters. Tedious work but makes you feel like an archaeologist.
an ending in Chrono Trigger DS somewhat hints that Chrono Cross is placed in an alternate reality(Like what I did with Indy 4)
But anyway I loved the soundtrack but I hated the normal battle music, it seemed it should be placed in a more "Silly Battle" situation.
The story was WAY off the wall and in the end it made sense what exactly happened but didn't make sense how happened. How did Schala asexually reproduce to make herself a clone and have it come out in an alternate reality in the future?

@lastblade3 yes, that's what i said, but with other words: a clone; a genetic clone of Schala, equals a Lavos' spawn, so Kid is kinda that. Some websites define her as a daughter-clon.

This game sucks so bad it's not even funny. I remember this coming out and hating every minute of game play. I only pressed on and completed it because it was "the official sequel" to Chrono Trigger as stated on the back of the case.
I couldn't even bring myself to beat it a 2nd time, even just to see Ozzy, Flea and Slash in 3-D. I think I have to go throw up now...

No you don't have to try. There are a bunch of intentional connections between the two plots:
Lavos transforms to time lavos because he consumed Schala from CT,
Lucca and Robo's role,
The Dragonians being evolved from Reptites in an alternate dimension,
Belthasar from CT (prophet of time) plan to stop time lavos.
The plot is intricate, deep, and is shady because it is more interesting to find it out yourself.

For some reason, back when I was an RPG addict, I could not get into this game AT ALL. I have always hated it. Absolutely loved Chrono Trigger but Cross IMHO just failed. The song is pretty cool though, quite enjoyable.

I just remember being very bored in the beginning up to the point where you cross worlds for the first time, then you start thinking....."why the hell doesnt anyone remember me.." From then on I was just focused finding the jist of all things. What I loved about the game was the amount of characters and paths a player could take, the combinations were endless.

Looooooooove this game. To the people who say Chrono Trigger is better, I personally think it depends on what you played first.
I never owned a SNES so I never got the chance to play it, but once I played this game I wanted to test it out, but I couldn't get into it like this game. I enjoyed having lots of characters to choose from.

I honestly disliked most of the music, the characters, the battle system, and even the story. I know a bazillion other people liked it and I will give it props for it's graphics at the time, but I just didn't like this game. I dunno, I figured being that it was supposed to be a Chrono Trigger sequel that it fell way short of my expectations.

Exactly. The problem wasn't it being a bad game, the problem was that it was actually trying to write itself off as an actual 'concrete' sequel to Chrono Trigger. And no, cheap references to Chrono Trigger DOES NOT COUNT. It's kind of like Final Fantasy XII.... those people at SquareEnix really needs to quit Bull Shitting with us. That game had Vagrant Story written all over it, and they wanted us to believe that it was a completely original game? Come on man, they could do better than that.

I don't think you understand the story in CC or CT, its very tied in at the end it is 100% answering parts of the story that need to be answered in the whole chrono series.

@deth2munkies there was a plot dump but it wasn't that big. In fact the story was progressing very smoothly until that point. Luckily a lot of the plot dump was just explaining out right some things they had been hinting to. That was a flaw but I think the over amount of characters was what I didn't like about it. random wrestler, and that creature from the painting. I didn't mind the bunny girl

It wasn't good mainly because of the bulk of characters and lack of substance, and although Serge had a character, it was no where near as good as Cronos, Cross may have been awesome if they had a revamped battle system of Trigger, and 7 select characters that were around most of the time and had plot (Glenn, Kid, I dunno).

Cross was a pretty solid game however there were definitely too many characters, which stunned the development all around. It was unfortunate given the intrigue presented with: Glenn, Kid, Karsh, Viper, Norris, Guile and even the enemies Lynx and so forth.

I played this game and forgotten most of it, except one FMV in which Kid (was that her name?) looked pretty good. Frankly, I didn't think much of this game. Boring, really. And the three attack scheme with hit percentages just meant more button presses.
This battle theme was good, but there are many better ones out there.

Ugh, this game was one of my worst impulse purchases ever. Anyone who says this was good or that they enjoyed it either has terrible taste in games, wanted to like it out of respect for Chrono Trigger enough to actually convince themselves, or both. It is a *travesty* of a sequel. My 2 cents on that aside, it did have some great tracks (like this one), but this soundtrack as a whole was Mitsuda at his worst. The main battle theme... uggghhh...

Oh, what the hell, I'll bite. This game, especially compared to a masterpiece like Trigger, was fucking *terrible*. I can't believe I even need to explain it. The music outside of a few standouts was terrible, the battle system was janky and unsatisfying. The motif and atmosphere of the game was sleep inducing. Far too many undeveloped characters. Just, c'mon man, there are far, FAR more and far better JRPGS than this overrated piece of shit. Play more games.

OK, here's something positive for you: Maybe we'll see a real sequel to Chrono Trigger that won't suck balls as hard as this game does some day. So long as I have the ability to, I'll say as many negative things I care to, you self righteous douche. Take the opinion, bitch, take it. That aside, the music wasn't necessarily bad in this game (AWFUL, TERRIBLE battle theme aside (not the one in the video)). It was just kinda boring in general and not the composer's best compared to his others.

In a way, I agree and disagree. As far as I know, DQ III is the first RPG game to have an actual final boss theme, which is why it placed in first. However, I don't think it should have gotten #1 for that alone (although I do agree that DQ is very, very overlooked nowadays, especially after seeing what FF has turned into lately).
Now that I think about it, SE should stop focusing on those FF spinoffs (note: I didn't say main game entries), make 'Chrono Break', and finish developing DQ IX.

It was incredibly confusing , just like killer 7 and silent hill 2. To fully understand the story you had replay the game several times , doing all the side quests and with different characters. Tedious work but makes you feel like an archaeologist.

an ending in Chrono Trigger DS somewhat hints that Chrono Cross is placed in an alternate reality(Like what I did with Indy 4)
But anyway I loved the soundtrack but I hated the normal battle music, it seemed it should be placed in a more "Silly Battle" situation.
The story was WAY off the wall and in the end it made sense what exactly happened but didn't make sense how happened. How did Schala asexually reproduce to make herself a clone and have it come out in an alternate reality in the future?

This game sucks so bad it's not even funny. I remember this coming out and hating every minute of game play. I only pressed on and completed it because it was "the official sequel" to Chrono Trigger as stated on the back of the case.
I couldn't even bring myself to beat it a 2nd time, even just to see Ozzy, Flea and Slash in 3-D. I think I have to go throw up now...
