@WallisvstheWorld The difference between them is that President Reagan truly believed what he said, and that showed in his actions. Obama says what the masses want to hear. Of course taxes are lower now than they were under Reagan, look at what they were when Reagan was sworn in. His work in office laid the groundwork for Obama's 'low' taxes. Another difference - Reagan was looking where to cut spending - Obama is looking for where to raise taxes. Christmas tree tax anyone?
@silicon212 His record shows he was a Democrat. Raising taxes, increasing the size of government, etc.
And you are burdened with having to prove it, because you claim to know what Reagan "truly" believed. You won't prove it bc you cant, and I just ruined your talking points.
@WallisvstheWorld Reagan dropped the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 28%. Taxes were indeed cut, and not increased. Government revenue did increase - that's due to increased employment and a healthy economy, not tax increases.
Look at the link I just added into the description, this will help take away your talking points and reinforce mine.
@silicon212 do you not like public services? taxes pay for those. reagan tried to abolish school lunches (ketchup is a vegetable!) just to save a penny while giving tax breaks to the fortune 500. get real!
@einsteinadonis "Public services", as you call them, should come from state/local government and not the federal government. They include police, fire, and other necessary services. Reagan worked to cut out the bloat from the federal government. Yes, he spent a lot of money on the military, but try to remember the era this was in, the Cold War. That, among other things, helped to bankrupt the Soviet Union and end the cold war. Read the Constitution to see what roles the Fed. gov. should have.

BARACK OBAMA certainly is NO HELPER of JOB CREATORS.... very Anti-Business in my book with Crazy TAX & Meaniningless PAPERWORKS on CAPITALISTS! CAPITALISTS are SUPERMEN (and SUPERWOMEN) in our world! They punch at POVERTY where it hurts! BARACK OBAMA is no Bill Clinton nor Ronald Reagan of our time!! =/
@IronJackalTw LOL love your statistics but Government and politicians don't create jobs. Any major economist knows this. And I would just be curious to see how many GOVERNMENT jobs those were that were Created when Clinton was in office. Another thing to look at to is the .com burst in the early 90,s. None of these statistics mean anything to any objective person with a basic understanding of economics. And sometimes economic policies take a while to fully take effect.
Did Clinton's policies create those jobs? Or did the internet boom? I'm glad they were created regardless, but there's a reason why. (And the number's are skewed to begin with.)
Although I didn't get a chance to see him in action, I admire President Reagan for his wit and his "I don't care if I offend you" attitude. I hate political-correctness. Why can't we all just say what we want to say?
exenrontexas I know you are a psychotic old LIBERAL but if you will, please point out in any of my past comments, where I promoted any resistance whatsoever to the Constitution. It is you and the rest of the LIBERALS who have the corrupt organizations such as ACORN promoting voter fraud and I have no beef at all with our boy JC (Jesus Christ) it is LIBERALS that are trying to destroy all religion from within so go preach somewhere else as you are laughable at best.
Haha thanks for cluing me in there Karl Marx. Btw very nice approach, very Saul Linskey if you will. You are the socialist weisel so this makes you the traitor. Given your age you will be dead soon (not soon enough) so it doesn't really matter what you think.
I agree with the Fairness Doctrine in principle. The PUBLIC owns the airwaves and should have access to refute propaganga. That is the essence of democracy as envisioned my Jefferson. If the PUBLIC owned the printing presses, ink and paper it would be the same.
Exactly the public owns the airwaves so let the public decide through the free market. Air America went bankrupt because nobody tuned in to listen, where as in DC you have several progressive shows that due very well......
It was Democrats who forced upon banks the practice of subprime lending. Greed ,yeah no shit shirlock, but greed is a human trait not prejudice to any political entity but the Dems were the party who made all this GREED possible. I challenge to provide me substantive proof that claims otherwise.
I hear an awful lot of conservative and neocon bashing. My question to you is how do you feel about the Democratic party? Are they copeable of any wrong doing in this current fiasco?
OK, that is a fair question. First of all, I have been a registered Republican for forty years, but I joined the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and IKE NOT the party of Nixon, Reagan. BUSH. The GOP left ME, NOT the other way around.
The DEMS have been mostly out of power and therefore less corrupt. Power corrupts. I believe in the balance of powers and if anyone gets too powerful, I look for alternatives. Clinton was somewhat corrupt but not as dangerous as the GOP. GOP wants ALL power.
Clinton was somewhat corrupt but not as dangerous as the GOP. GOP wants ALL power.
Ever hear of the fairness doctrine? You know the one media outlet Liberals are so pissed that they do not have a monopoly on. Now how about illegal immigration. Now do you think liberals really honestly , truly care about their rights or maybe just maybe is it that over 90% of all immigrants vote democrat therefor if you let them all here by means against what are laws require then you change you change the....
entire political landscape to a one party system. What was that again about the GOP being control freaks? And I agree with you 100% about balance of power but you 180 degrees from right when you say that been mostly out of power. Until 94 the Dems controlled the house and the Senate for a long majority of 30 years or so. Correct you had 2 executive terms of the the Cinton who happens to be largely responsible for the mess we are in now by basically taking Carters Community Investment Act .......
I believe that Washington was RIGHT when he warned America of the danger of people who were more loyal to ONE MAN or ONE PARTY than to the CONSTITUTION and to the PEOPLE of the US.
BTW: it was NOT Carter's CRA, but Barbara Jordan's CRA. CRA has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the current crisis and is a TINY portion of the lending by banks. It is the manipulation of accounting by large corporations, tax breaks for the rich and control of the gov by corporations that are the cause.

Tiny portion. Says who? You? You could not be more wrong, it was most certainly the CRA that caused every bit of this crisis and it was programs led by key Dems that allowed it all to happen.
So let me get this straight. You say the GOP turned its back on you. So am I wrong to say that you are really a conservative that has not been represented well by your Republican peers so there for you total left all your conservative principles behind to establish yourself as a tolerance minded Lib.
....and putting it on steroids there for forcing banks to low lending standards or face large government fines. George W. Bush (who I admit spent like lib retard) along with John McCain and others put forth legislation in 2004 to regulate the 2 very entities that caused most of this debacle we are in and it was blocked by GUESS WHO, the Democrats namely Barney Frank and now the very ones who didn't want regulation and helped burst the housing bubble are the ones who we trust with over a ......
It was GREED that caused the lending frenzy. WITHOUT proper regulations the large banks PROMOTED sub-prime lending and then SOLD those loans ASAP. They also sold MORTAGE BACK SECURITIES and made BILLIONS. They KNEW what they were doing and PURPOSEFULLY leveraged GOP Congress to allow them to make it happen. We have REGULATIONS for a VERY GOOD REASON and that is that criminals will do what they think they can get away with and NOW they ARE getting away with it and YOU are helping them.
Paul O'Neill the BUSH Sec, of the Treasury estimated that the cost of the ILLEGAL and IMMORAL Iraq war would exceed THREE TRILLION DOLLARS. Let's see: invading a country WITHOUT WMDS that had NO CONNECTION to al Qaeda, murder 100,000 of their citizens (MOST were INNOCENT), killing thousands of GIs and maiming tens of thousands more, NOT security the oil and SUPPORTING terrorism AND draining the Clinton surplus and collapsing the economy,,,THAT MAKES SENSE...to a NEOCON.
...but by large it is dominated by more conservative's because they have much higher ratings. The government needs to stay out of it or it will do nothing but censor the conversation.

You forget that Dems including Clinton (Bill who made the argument for WMD's, speech in 98') and Hilary who along with many other Dems voted for this ILLEGAL WAR. Are you really this stupid. BTW I never once said that I supported George W. Bush, your simple train of thought led you there. I am a conservative. That is exactly why I didn't care for Bush. You Libs crack me up with your self righteousness about spending. You libs love spending money. Spend , spend , spend. You should love Bush.
...and since you like to talk about deficits lets talk about Obama. He has managed to spend more money in a matter of weeks than Bush did his first two years and you want to talk about surplus. HAHA you are a fucking tool. Notice Wallstreet's reaction the past week to everything Obama touches. Wait and see we will still be in Irag.Obama isn't pulling anyone out and I would love for us to keep in touch so I can hear outrage of him.
The modern Republican Party is a joke. Even all the Reagan is God blah blah - Sure, he was good on taxes (at the time), but a DISASTER on spending! My God, even the "liberal" congress spent less $ than Reagan wanted. How can a movement that has anything to do with "limited spending" have ANYTHING to do with Reagan? Start over! Thinking "Reagan" is setting the bar WAY too low.
I will agree with you that the modern Republican party is a joke - it has strayed way, way too far off course. However, your comment about Reagan spending is misguided. He increased spending in the military budget, but cut it in other areas. I challenge you to show me where he increased it in social spending or 'entitlements'.
The Democrats controlled Congress throughout Reagan's term.
The biggest problem with the GOP is the neoconservative movement itself. Most of these neocons are not true conservatives and are fiscally liberal, hence the record spending under Bush (himself a neocon).
Yes, the democrats had a majority all 8 years....but the truth is, REAGAN controlled the congress. Without any hesistation, he would get the message to Speaker Tip O'Neill not to pass a bill with any nonsense on it or he WILL veto it....and he did. Failure to do that (as well as failing to control the borders ) was Bush's downfall.
Ronald Reagan was a once-in-a-lifetime president. He is sorely missed.
You leftwing Marxist, this is how you show respect. Reagan spent it on defense and destroyed the Soviet Union and Communism in general. Now we have a Marxist in the name of Obama trying to destroy this country.
Solidarity, a Polish Pope, cable TV (technology), and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, (all of which predate the start of Reagan's presidency) had just as much to do with the downfall of communism, not to mention Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, and EVERY other American president, soldier, & civilian that fought the Cold War. Reagan did his share for sure, but we now know that by the time he became president, the Soviet Union was going bankrupt.
Reagan had little or nothing to do with the fall of the Soviet Union. Give credit where it is due to Pope John Paul, Lech Walesa and Gorbechev, NOT REAGAN, NEVER REAGAN. ONLY the NEOCONS give credit to Reagan. It is part of their LIE.
I keep hearing this word 'neocon' bantered about. Do you even know what a neoconservative is? It's someone who identified themselves as a liberal but moved to the right.
Reagan was the whole reason why the Soviet Union fell. Don't give credit to Gorby, he was a Soviet Communist! The reason why he moved the USSR somewhat to the right is because he saw the writing on the wall!
Reagan spent the USSR into bankruptcy during the arms race of the 80s.
NEOCONS are followers of the ideas of LEO Strauss. Strauss came to America on a Rockefeller grant arranged by a German lawyer, Carl Schmitt. Schmitt was the lawyer for Fritz Thyssen and Prescott BUSH who were business partners. Thyssen financed Hitler's rise to power. BUSH was convicted of aiding HITLER's push for power. NEOCONS are fascists without the anti-semitism. Reagan was their puppet. ANYONE who gives Reagan credit for the fall of the Soviets is a moron. Communism fell of it's own.
You know, it's often said that when one is aware they are on the losing end of an argument, bring up Hitler.
If you really knew about this, these people who consider themselves neocons align against Hitleresque ideals. But then you already knew that, didn't you. Reagan was never their puppet, go learn the real history and not the revised history that's available now.
ALL patriotic Americans should bring up the BUSH NAZI connections whenever ANY Bush runs for ANY office. There is an UNDENIABLE, UNHOLY connection between the BUSH family and fascists. Research BEFORE you criticize.
Reagan was a B movie actor and was only reading his lines when he was in the WH. He was hired by the SAME forces who were behind the fascist plots in the '30s and behind Nixon to "PLAY" a role as president. Reagan had NO integrity, NO leadership and accomplished NOTHING...good.
I voted AGAINST Reagan for CA governor. It was Reagan who quintupled the tuition at CA universities and colleges thus impeding the best higher education system that the world has ever seen. NEOCONS like Reagan LOVE to keep people stupid. YOU are proof.
Thank you for stating this. What you said is true but not many people know about it because the organized dumbing down program via cuts to education, the rise of right wing talk radio and the watering down of TV that has been going on for the last 30 years
A simplistic answer from a dumbass who borrowed more to pay his Military Industrial Complex than any other power addict could. Reaganomics made borrowers out of us all. Taxes were not simplified. Taxes were only simplified for the lack of loopholes one had after his team got through with it. Now Russia is back on its feet and there will be a return to the old ways. He only took care of Pinochets, Somozas, Husseins, and any other fascist louse who was kind to American interests at the time.
The marginal tax is only one pathetic part of the tax "simplification". The marginal tax was shifted to the right and then to the left and is a game of book juggling. Yeh, you can come up with statistics. I have a statistic. The loss of benefits for veterans starting with the Viet Era Vets. GI loans took a beating. He had the unmitigated gall from a non-combat piece actorship calling in private, our benefits from the "golden years". He then borrowed from foreign banks to pay for his star wars. ?
10.7 trillion in debt beginning with never fired a shot Ron. You are one shining fool....lol. Invade Grenada anyone? Sell dope for weapons, patriots? Sell the coca in L.A. and then beg for more money for police? "I don't remember," says Big Ron. Pursed old wrinkled ass lips a quiverin' because he had no script to read from, or try to "remember" the days of September. What a warrior. Man of action. Death Valley Days. You are now in Death Valley. The North Amerikan Union.
@distressed7 Yea look att the record the national debt was raised by Bush NOT OBama. If you want to get to the brass tacks both democrats and republicans caused the 10 trillion bail out. So go after the companies that caused the issue to begin with. They are the ones that lost the money not the repubs or the democrats so if you want to blame someone blame the companies then the political parties.
HBO ran a show on TO BIG TO FAIL and it explains in english how the US got to where it got.
Good point. Russia is back on it's feet! And China is on track to overtake the U.S. Reagan might have cracked the armour but the core still remains intact!
Thank you for posting this! By coincidence, I just read this anecdote in Reagan Diaries (ed. Douglas Brinkley), and searched here for REAGAN 1982, in the off hope that somebody had put it up. Take care and God Bless.

@IronJackalTw Bush = War on Terror, TARP
Clinton = Lewinksi, GOP Congress, Housing / Internet bubbles
Bush = Persian Gulf, Taxes
Reagan = Cut taxes, proposed lower spending, USSR on the ash heap of history.
Carter = Stagflation, Malaise, Rabid rabbit
Ford = Who care's?
Nixon = Watergate, China, Vietnam

@IronJackalTw Jimmy Carter created about -20 million jobs just saying...worst president ever!!!!!!!!!
Plus Your Clinton jobs are inaccurate and overly inflated. Do some research.

Did Clinton's policies create those jobs? Or did the internet boom? I'm glad they were created regardless, but there's a reason why. (And the number's are skewed to begin with.)

Are they copeable of any wrong doing in this current fiasco?
fallstoofar 2 years ago
OK, that is a fair question. First of all, I have been a registered Republican for forty years, but I joined the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and IKE NOT the party of Nixon, Reagan. BUSH. The GOP left ME, NOT the other way around.
The DEMS have been mostly out of power and therefore less corrupt. Power corrupts. I believe in the balance of powers and if anyone gets too powerful, I look for alternatives. Clinton was somewhat corrupt but not as dangerous as the GOP. GOP wants ALL power.

RonPaulGeorgeRingo 3 years ago
I will agree with you that the modern Republican party is a joke - it has strayed way, way too far off course. However, your comment about Reagan spending is misguided. He increased spending in the military budget, but cut it in other areas. I challenge you to show me where he increased it in social spending or 'entitlements'.
silicon212 3 years ago
Of course look who controlled Congress during Reagan's administration.
bittergunowner12 3 years ago
The Democrats controlled Congress throughout Reagan's term.
The biggest problem with the GOP is the neoconservative movement itself. Most of these neocons are not true conservatives and are fiscally liberal, hence the record spending under Bush (himself a neocon).
silicon212 3 years ago 2
Yes, I'll agree with you on that one, neo cons are social conservatives and fiscal liberals.
bittergunowner12 3 years ago
Yes, the democrats had a majority all 8 years....but the truth is, REAGAN controlled the congress. Without any hesistation, he would get the message to Speaker Tip O'Neill not to pass a bill with any nonsense on it or he WILL veto it....and he did. Failure to do that (as well as failing to control the borders ) was Bush's downfall.
Ronald Reagan was a once-in-a-lifetime president. He is sorely missed.

You leftwing Marxist, this is how you show respect. Reagan spent it on defense and destroyed the Soviet Union and Communism in general. Now we have a Marxist in the name of Obama trying to destroy this country.
v1ladimir 3 years ago
To Vladimir the Bush socialist
I voted Reagan/80.
RonPaulGeorgeRingo 3 years ago 2
Reagan had little or nothing to do with the fall of the Soviet Union. Give credit where it is due to Pope John Paul, Lech Walesa and Gorbechev, NOT REAGAN, NEVER REAGAN. ONLY the NEOCONS give credit to Reagan. It is part of their LIE.
exenrontexas 3 years ago
I keep hearing this word 'neocon' bantered about. Do you even know what a neoconservative is? It's someone who identified themselves as a liberal but moved to the right.
Reagan was the whole reason why the Soviet Union fell. Don't give credit to Gorby, he was a Soviet Communist! The reason why he moved the USSR somewhat to the right is because he saw the writing on the wall!
Reagan spent the USSR into bankruptcy during the arms race of the 80s.
silicon212 3 years ago
NEOCONS are followers of the ideas of LEO Strauss. Strauss came to America on a Rockefeller grant arranged by a German lawyer, Carl Schmitt. Schmitt was the lawyer for Fritz Thyssen and Prescott BUSH who were business partners. Thyssen financed Hitler's rise to power. BUSH was convicted of aiding HITLER's push for power. NEOCONS are fascists without the anti-semitism. Reagan was their puppet. ANYONE who gives Reagan credit for the fall of the Soviets is a moron. Communism fell of it's own.
exenrontexas 3 years ago
You know, it's often said that when one is aware they are on the losing end of an argument, bring up Hitler.
If you really knew about this, these people who consider themselves neocons align against Hitleresque ideals. But then you already knew that, didn't you. Reagan was never their puppet, go learn the real history and not the revised history that's available now.
silicon212 3 years ago
ALL patriotic Americans should bring up the BUSH NAZI connections whenever ANY Bush runs for ANY office. There is an UNDENIABLE, UNHOLY connection between the BUSH family and fascists. Research BEFORE you criticize.
Reagan was a B movie actor and was only reading his lines when he was in the WH. He was hired by the SAME forces who were behind the fascist plots in the '30s and behind Nixon to "PLAY" a role as president. Reagan had NO integrity, NO leadership and accomplished NOTHING...good.

The top marginal tax was 70% when Reagan took office, after he left the top marginal tax was 28%.
Care to back up your claims with cold, hard data?
silicon212 4 years ago
The marginal tax is only one pathetic part of the tax "simplification". The marginal tax was shifted to the right and then to the left and is a game of book juggling. Yeh, you can come up with statistics. I have a statistic. The loss of benefits for veterans starting with the Viet Era Vets. GI loans took a beating. He had the unmitigated gall from a non-combat piece actorship calling in private, our benefits from the "golden years". He then borrowed from foreign banks to pay for his star wars. ?

@distressed7 Yea look att the record the national debt was raised by Bush NOT OBama. If you want to get to the brass tacks both democrats and republicans caused the 10 trillion bail out. So go after the companies that caused the issue to begin with. They are the ones that lost the money not the repubs or the democrats so if you want to blame someone blame the companies then the political parties.
