  • people forgot what music is

  • @3838jessy People ARE forgetting what music is, but I don't esteem this musical expression of romantic love as highly as lots of other songs and/or compositions, and, really, I am a little suspicious of what sort of romantic love this song might be celebrating--it is pleasant and tender, but there's no melody to speak of, it makes me feel no passion, I don't think it is very deep--compare it with Mozart's "Elvira Madigan."

    Or, The Beatles' "Something."

What is both new and great?

  • @derek4ur I disagree. I think this song conveys great passion and love though I prefer the first love theme but it is still beautiful nonetheless. If you think its not very deep then you must not have an imagination or at least not be very sensitive or a sense of tenderness both of which this song gives as well.

  • @chargers0001 Well, I think this is a really lovely tune, and feel like I was unfairly hard on it my first critique. It IS a nice testament to love. For me, though, it is so very subdued--and I don't typically associate such mellow calm with what I call, "passion." Maybe I just need to be more open-minded. I have to be honest, though--it doesn't get to me like, say, Randy Newman's, "Something Special About Our Love." Or, many others I can name. It is fine that it is popular, though.

  • @derek4ur - Yes it is, and I know its slow thats why I said I like the first best it made me feel more then I care to admit but this ones a bit more slow. Well I listened to Elvira Madigan and I felt nothing for it I thought it was to springy and light to represent love and passion. You don't have to feel that I just think its still beautiful. Its never bad to try a new point of view but still have yours.

  • @chargers0001 You know what? I find it astonishing that anyone even might preer this piece to Mozart's piece. Just me. Also, I find it depressing that so many people post who haven't any inkling about proper grammar, spelling, syntax--in short, who can't write a "to do " list without making twenty mistakes. I blame modern advertising and print media, and education, and just, plain laziness itself.

Let's agree to disagree--probably the best solution...

  • @derek4ur I like Mozart.. don't get me wrong but that particular piece did not make me think of love. Haha oh wow um not everyone's like that. Its true I agree there is a problem there. But, I think your being a bit negative and I do think people get good education they just don't use the resources at their disposal. It could be just there character to not care to remember what they learn. I find it equally astonishing how you can just trash people like that there is always another side.

  • @chargers0001 I didn't trash anyone. I said I find it depressing that people post who write poorly. It is epidemic, it is getting worse, and it is fed by bad writing in for sale print media--if it is "ok" there, people will take the liberty of sloppy writing everywhere, and that sucks. Eventually, we will have our own version of Orwellian-write--we'll be more or less illiterate. It is awful because really subtle--important--ideas can't be expressed/read except in fine, exact, precise prose.

  • @chargers0001 "Not to care to remember what they learn..."? But: we must communicate! And: isn't it more an ideal to expand one's intelligence than contract it by, "Not caring to remember what one has learned"? What is one's brain and mind for, anyway? Maybe you took my displeasure with poor writing as an attack on you, personally--but that was something you did, based on conclusions you drew which don't add up if you re-examine my comment. A bad hair day doesn't make me a bad person, i.e.

  • @derek4ur I'm talking about other people, they may not care to "expand their intelligence " as you put it is what I'm saying. No I meant trashing/ stereotyping people based on their writing which doesn't always have anything to do with their intelligence.I was not coming to the conclusion that you were attacking me and if you were it wouldn't bother me. But I don't like how snide and somewhat pompous your being if that wasn't your intention than I apologize but thats what your writing tells me.

  • @chargers0001 I appreciate that folks can be keenly intelligent and not possess strong verbal skills. And, if I came off as saying that this nation bloody ought to share my values, or else it is less than acceptable in some way, well--that would be quite pompous, and I didn't intend that.

But: you now reiterate your charge that I have "trashed" (STRONG word) people for their inability to write well. Again: I didn't! I said I hate bad writing--not bad writers, Goddamnit! It is very simple!!

  • @derek4 Me too. No its not your values or what you want but the way you put it is a bit insulting..I would like same things you do when it comes to our standards I think the bar has been lowered significantly in certain areas which you have mentioned. But I can't turn a blind eye to your tone, I find it snobbish and lacking. Well then make it clear what you mean unless you intend to insult and there is no need to get angry. I could easily lower myself to yelling and cursing but I'm not.

  • @chargers0001 I probably ought to have checked out Sakamoto more before judging him. I'm impressed, quite, that he contributed nine songs to Bertolucci's, "The Last Emporer," and quite like his title theme for that film. I still don't care for New Age Classical, generally--and I DO feel that some of Ryuichi's piano pieces are virtually blank--for me, at least--emotionally. But: I have goofed, pretty much--I have spoken where I knew not, and prematurely. He IS talented.

  • @derek4ur- Yeah he is pretty good one of my favorites. I think he is its okay no ones always ever right. I respect that you at least can admit when your wrong. I have a challenge for you, I think you should completely empty your mind for maybe 5-10 minutes. Then, I want you to look out at the window and open your mind to the whole world and its differences.Think of that and than put yourself into someone else's shoes it doesn't matter who but probably someone different then you.

  • @chargers0001 I appreciate that snobbery can be offensive, insulting, even infuriating. But: please consider this: your critique of my writing, which you say you feel compelled to confront, (significant), may indicate a variety of snobbery itself, on your own part. IF you feel entitled, generally, to confront, and "correct," character flaws as they surface in your fellows, as, "Judge and Jury," --just maybe--you have an elitism of your own to address.

I just feel you "got me wrong" a bit.

  • @derek4ur- Yes I've seen a lot of it and it quiet frankly its disgusting. Only because it seems like your trying to bait me with that kind of talk. I never said I was without flaw just remember that and you as well are not. I have no such thoughts of thinking I'm better then any of my peers. I do feel entitled simply because I believe we are equals and can have a conversation without turning it into a full on argument. Perhaps I have gotten you wrong-but I'm not happy with you thinking that.

  • @chargers0001 Especially as I have evidently at least caused the feeling of insult so far, I don't wish to again, so I want to emphasize: IF you are habitually "judging and correcting" folks, perhaps you are elitist youself--please note I capitalized "IF." I felt "judged and corrected" by you, somewhat--but, in my case, with some benefit--in the future, I'll probably be clear that I don't equate verbal skill with either inteligence or moral worth.

    Well--I never meant to insult/offend.

  • @derek4ur- I can't deny that I feel insulted because I am not an elitist and never thought of myself that way. My background assures that, I'm simply stating an opinion nothing more. Yes I judged you and I try not to but saying I may have a certain snobbery about myself well I thought it was rude and completely false. I never said it was you yourself who was snobbish just how you talked. I'm saying this because I believe firmly that you should be more open minded.

  • @chargers0001 I am going to sign off, I think, more or less. You know, it is much more the music industry itself than Sakamoto that bugs me. I like some of his work. I'll make an effort to be aware of being elitist or insulting, and curb those inclinations, if I see them in myself.

I accomplish, really, nothing by bad-mouthing Sakamoto--it has been silly of me, at best. I am just frustrated by homogeneity in world-wide music, and have directed that at him. Unfair and uncool of me.

  • @chargers0001 I've thought a bit: I respect your defense of folks who are good, intelligent, and simply don't possess strong verbal skills--I appreciate that it may be uncool of me to fault them for their poorly composed "to-do list"--I am sorry. But:I am alarmed by the disintegration of language skill generally, because it has saturated even for sale print media--even NEWS media--and that sucks!! I think our standards have been lowered in all arenas of culture--all arts, media, politics.

  • Thanks and I respect your honesty, I completely understand its crazy as well as just lazy too.

  • @chargers0001 Thanks.

I think that what is going on is this: Profit Over Value, and Profit Over People. ("Profit Over People" is actually a book title--haven't read it--about economics--but makes my point, so I borrowed that title.)

Nowadays, I hear many, many brilliantly talented creative people saying, "In my field/art, originality is flat-out discouraged! The FAMILIAR is more marketable--so that is all execs want to sell."

Profit To the DETRIMENT of CULTURAL VITALITY!!

    Tragic...

  • @derek4ur I agree completely and I hate it! especially when I and other people I know try to deviate and try something else and then get back lash for it.. It is, I really hope that we can change it we are the future and I believe there are still people out there wanting the change.

  • @chargers0001 It is dumb of me to be so combative. I think I have articulated some good, important points--but it is dumb of me to keep things going here. Your valid points are well taken. My great unhappiness with our United States' culture generally is that creativity, originality and shared vision seem to be at a depressing and all-time low--(True: easy to complain, and why don't I do some creating myself...) We invented Jazz, after all--not to mention Blues, Country and Rock. Sad.

  • @derek4ur No not dumb, I get why you are. Yes you made your points I agree. I know and I hope that soon it will change for the better but for now we must remain positive because one person could easily change the lives of millions we've seen that over and over. ( go create lol :)

  • @chargers0001 I am a little hurt--why, "go create lol"? Maybe I'll create a great song one day. One never knows.

  • @derek4ur- I wasn't trying to hurt or feelings I simply meant well then get started :) and your right you could I never said you wouldn't.

  • Thanks and I respect your honesty, I completely understand its crazy as well as just lazy too.

  • I like this ,very mauch. Because it is softly and biautiful sounds for my heart.
