And that was just in Poland, In Dachau concentration camp alone, 2,600 Catholic priests from 24 different countries were killed, and that was just the catholic clergy, protestants were more openly against nazism, including the two most well known preachers of the day: Niemoller and Bonhoeffer

But they were treated very well, as all remember. Of course there was forced labour and labour service in Germany which was obligatory. That wasn't a botched execution, it went exactly as planned. They did that to torment/disrespect the man being hanged.
Read about famous hangings/executions, and you'll often see that "mistakes" are made in calculating the length of rope, the trajectory of bullets, etc. etc.
Of course many of them truly were botched, I'm not disputing that, but a surprising number of them seem to have been botched on purpose.

However the Catholic Church did things like excommunicate priests that attemted to protest the Nazi occupation of France while that was going on and they worked very hard to get nazi's out of Germany to protect them prosecution after the war. I do not know how else the participated, but they recently gave a weak apology for their acting in Sympathy with the Axis.
