If any one of these asshole r&b singers out today try to remake this they should be drawn and quartered. I betcha Beyonce trys to remake this...or Chris "left hook" Brown...
George Benson's version of this song is definitive...beyond beautiful; but let's not forget that Leon Russell gets the credit for writing it in the first place...and making such a simple and amazing melody that can be adapted in so many ways! Two musical geniuses (Benson and Russell) combined create this perfect music.
Absolutely soul stirring song! I grew-up listening to this wonderful music and now I listen to it with my young son. I think it's important for this generation of younguns to know what really good music is.
@1mixmatch I agree...Music History is a must...! Music should be a required course of study in school...right up there with mathmatics !!! There is soO much music out there that our children have yet to experience...share the music and enlighten a soul ! Peace 1mixmatch !
i thank you lord, giving me life, to learn about the beautiful music that i learn through out the years , it always keep a smile on my face, me and my family use to get together on the every weekend, it such a wonderful music to relax my soul. george benson, bless your heart.
omg, this song is still all that, so relaxing to listened to. calm my mind, this song goes way back and i used to play it back to back, my aunt, and uncle use to play it all the time and all my family use to get together on the weekend, and celebrate.
Es sencillamente hermosa esta canciòn...y la interpretación de benson..ùnica..uno de los grandes en la historia del jazz sin duda...desde pequeña tuve la suerte de empezar a escucharlo en sus inicios y los recuerdos son inolvidables..
I got real when I heard this song @ da tender age of 25.. twenty-five years later I have it on my ipod, this will never get old... it's classic, and timeless.. beauifully written and sooo true ( if u r n a sour relationship)...I will always groove to this....
I have several albumsperformed by this musical giant .... All I can say none of them are the same ... All I can say he can play a gitar and sing like an angel ... A genius .... This song holds special meaning and purpose to me, and without this type of music I would be an empty vessel. I have listened to the song being played overlooking Hamilton Island whilst the sun was going down ... Just beautiful ... Thank you JB
Good comments RakyMaky! Like many artists who can play anything and are multi-gifted they are misunderstood by chart addicts looking for "purests" instead of explorers. Check out a GB lesson on YT "George Benson - The art of jazz guitar lesson" just fiddling about in someone's living room.
feels good to read everybodys memories on this song.Im 30 years old,I remember when I was no more than 5 years old living in Ecuatorial GUinea my father had all those jazz vinyls.I dont think I've listened to this song since those years the 80s.But this song is printed in your brain with jsut one listen.ok my daddy played it more than once lol so IM rediscovering GB brings so many good memories from my childhood
Just saw him perform this song a week or so ago at Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois sur Seine, near Paris. He is as good as ever, and this song really moved me.
Now I can't get it out of my head, so I had to learn it!
The one person who disliked this must be caught up in that illuminati bs worth of music that is playing today! Little children listen to my words closely when I say that this is real music right here! And not that bull ya'll listen to on the dead radio!!!
Intro calls Benson one of the greatest guitarists in jazz history, and maybe he is, but the absolute best that I've ever heard was a guy that used to appear regularly on the Letterman Show and who has recently(within the past 2 or 3 years) passed away. His name was Hiram Bullock. Punch in his name here on YouTube and give your ears a treat!
I was young and most of my buddies were hard core Rockers, I was and still am a rock and roller, I am a fan of most styles/genres grew up listening to it all and would not change a thing music has brought me alot of peace, one day country western, Merle Haggard etc the next Dr. Dre and Snoop with a little Motown mixed in but I must say George has to be on top of the list of my favorites.
Sitting on my front porch looking out at a quite street, sun just about to set. Glass of brandy warming in my right hand Rockey Patel cigar in my left, this song playing softly....heaven.
I heard this song in 78 it is a beuatiful song .i could dance this song forever. thats what I was doing when this song came out.The tunes the notes are awesame. Sometines I think of this as a melancolic way because of the the love and feelings i had for that person
Hey dudes, there was plenty of trash on the charts when Masquerade was made. Great music is timeless; we have plenty made today, it just doesn't get a hearing.
Reminds me of a lost love...the day we sat at at the river just chillin and being together with this song playing on the radio on a warm sunny day. Joy. Thank you for uploading this groove.
the first time i heard this tune it caught my attention and i could help but hearing it again to be sure . so relaxing and can yr imagination to just drift a while
I remember the first time I heard this, I will never forget it! I was driving home from a job I had at Dell. Just finished a twelve and a half hour shift, but I was cool with the people I worked with, so it was all good. Still, I was listening to a college jazz radio station, when this song came on. Now, the sun was setting, the clouds were a beautiful pink, and the traffic had just eased up. Talk about one beautiful experience!
@flameone1000 I first heard this in a restaurant and ran to the toilet to use an early form of shazam on my phone to name it for me. Many people who came in after thought I was odd standing there holding my phone up to a speaker in a gents.... but it was worth it. :)
... a cassette player...my bedroom window... the red glow of sunset... a June solstice... ...into the late hours...gazing out beyond the horizon...thinking of things to come...
BTW, RakyMaky, I like your syndicated (? lol) synopsis of George Benson, jazz guitarist. It's not only accurate, but also very well written. And thanks for all your uploads of his music.
I first heard this on Miami vice, when Crockett and Tubbs found out (I dont remember the character name, but he was played by the guy who was Al Bundy on "Married with children") Dude hung himself in the courtroom bathroom. It was kinda sad.
I'm young but would have to agree that the noise passed off as music of my generation doesn't even come close. Thank You, Lord for giving me parents who exposed me to real music like this.
