  • Sanctus Sanctus Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in Excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domine. Hosanna in Excelsis!

  • I don't know how I missed this Church on my drives north on I-75 to go to the Joe. I am more familiar with St. Anne's by the bridge.

  • whatever seing the priest's face or not : he still celebrates the holy mass in front of GOD, which should be the most important.

  • I am laughing rather histerically at the fact that someone thinks everyone needs to "SING" the Sanctus. Next Sunday I think I will pass out the parts to Wm. Byrds' Mass for Four Voices and see how many "sing along". All I need is a bouncing ball. Best leave the singing to the choir, the liturgy to myself, the Deacon and SubDeacon (and the Book of Common Prayer for that matter) and the meditation to the congregation!

  • Hum, usually, the Faithful kneel AFTER the Sanctus... Someone should tell them.

  • In the Tridentine Rite--that is, the Latin Mass, or the Mass of Pius V--the faithful kneel immediately after the Preface, which always ends with the angels "una voce dicentes..." (saying with one voice...), so that as the angels proclaim the Lord to be "Sanctus", we are kneeling with them.

  • Well, perhaps in the United States, but in France or in Italy we never do so (even in the "extraordinary form" of the Roman Rite), because we stand during the sanctus and we kneel during the canon. Indeed, kneeling means adoration, personal prayer while standing means "activity", common prayer ; this is why we stand during the Sanctus, since we all sing.

Moreover, when the mass is sung, the faithful are supposed to be standing during the introit, instead of kneeling like the ministers.

  • Indult, I'm guessing?

  • @DortAmKlavier No, since Summorum Pontificum, priests no longer need permission to celebrate either form of the Roman Rite.

  • Latin must return to our churches as a matter of urgency.

  • @ririshow

The Church existed before "Latin" was popular in Christianity. Christ spoke Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek - not Latin. Latin was the language of the Roman Empire. Latin as a language was also used to keep people who spoke other languages from understanding and reading the Holy Scripture. As a matter of urgency, let's stop trying to implement the doctrines of man in to Salvation. If God wanted everyone to worship Him in the same language, He wouldn't have created so many different ones.

Dont get me wrong friend - I think Latin is a traditional and beautiful language. But the Church is hurting. Before Latin returns to the Church, the Church needs to return to God, and quit all this foolishness that's dividing Christians around the world. Understand that Christ was about change, acceptance, love, and compassion. If we are going to call ourselves Christians, we need to act like Christ (all of us - including the Pope), and forget about all the stuff that doesn't matter.

  • @ririshow why?

  • @ririshow Amen!

  • @ririshow Amen!

  • Vatican official Raymond Burke attacked the U.S. Democrats as the "Party of Death" for their stand on abortion. He said Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, while presenting themselves as good Catholics, have presented Church doctrine on abortion in a false and tendentious way. (see Reuters.blog article of 10/1/2008)

Burke is right on. A vote for a democrat is a vote for murder!

A vote for anyone but McCain-Palin is a vote for an ObamaNation.

    God help us.

  • Thanks a lot for sharing.

    Welldone and God bless †

  • What's so bad about Novus Ordo, at least we can understand what the priest is saying, and can see his face, am I wrong for believing that?

  • Yes you are wrong. Instead of looking in each others faces you should look at God.

  • In the extraordinary form me understand what the priest is saying if we follow along in our Missals. After all, how many people at the Novus Ordo insist on reading along from Missalettes when the texts are read in the vernacular. And why do we want to see the priest's face? His face can only be a distraction and make us forget we're there to worship God, not to be entertained.

  • If your idea of a good Mass is seeing the face of the priest I'd say you don't understand what Mass is all about.

  • "What's so bad about the Novus Ordo"? How many saints became martyrs because of the Latin Mass? If it was worth them dying to preserve it, then it must be worth at least that much to me and to the rest of the faithful! If you think it is about understanding what the preist is saying, then you are in desperate need of having a much fuller education in Catholicism and a greater examination of your [lack of] faith!!

  • i really dont think there's a problem. i think it actually opened up a lot of cultures to the mass at least in the third world. personally i prefer the tridentine mass if only because it seems more solemn and sacred...

  • We have books with the compleate translation of what the Priest is saying and BTW in the Novus Ordo the Priest is still supposed to be facing God (on the Altar) and to do that mass in Latin (with some venacular) .

  • Thank you for posting - this is beautiful!

    A paz.

  • If every Novus Ordo was celebrated with this amount of reverence and beauty, there never would have been an SSPX schism.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is God's greatest gift to mankind. Who am I that the Lord should invite me, a sinner, to stand at the foot of His Cross?

  • It is impossible for the Novus Ordo to have ANY form of reverence or validity, and thus NO beauty.

There was a time that the True Mass was the only Mass--and it WAS universal. The Latin was universal in the Catholic Church and the Mass would be identical around the globe.

  • I am so sick of hearing this crap. What about the Eastern Divine Liturgy? Was that not the "True Mass"? Learn your theology, pal, before you go spouting off. The True Mass goes far beyond the words or rubrics used; the True Mass is the Sacrifice of Calvary, no matter what rite it is celebrated in.

  • Yes, any approved rite is legitimate in the eyes of Holy Mother the Church. The Latin rite is by far the largest and most universal.

Your comment about any rite is legitimate to read or sing a Mass is conveniently ambiguous and misleading. Vatican II destroyed much wording and many facets of the Mass to change it to a marketing-and man-centered festical of brotherhood and convenience, not of the True Mass.

    You need prayer.

  • So if any approved rite is legitimate, then the Novus Ordo MUST be valid.

What exactly is it about the NO that you consider un-Catholic? Do you ever watch the Daily Mass on EWTN? Do you honestly think that that is a man-centered, Protestantized rite? No, it is the Mass of Paul VI said the way it was intended, and the way it is said by the Pope and by all faithful priests.

  • "The Beauty of the Church is equally resplendent in the variety of the liturgical rites which enrich her divine cult-when they are legitimate and conform to the faith. Precisely the LEGITIMACY OF THEIR ORIGIN PROTECTS AND GUARDS THEM AGAINST INFILTRATION OF ERRORS. . . .The PURITY AND UNITY OF THE FAITH is in this manner also UPHELD BY THE SUPREME MAGISTERIUM OF THE POPE THROUGH THE LITURGICAL LAWS."

Cardinal Ottaviani (of the so-called "Ottaviani Intervention")

  • The Catholic Church is the one true Church of Christ. The next time you attack her, at least have the decency to inform yourself. You put Jack Chick to shame.

  • The Byzantine Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom is beautiful too.

  • que bom se a missa em todas as igrejas do mundo fossem dessa forma

  • It brings back memories.

  • The most beautiful thing this side of heaven!
