  • Very impressive , it reminds of a training partner i had 12 -15 years ago i had . Nathan Hetherington was his name . He squatted 600 for 15 also ... best i saw him do was 725lbs for rock bottom six reps , just a belt , no wraps or what have you .. no spot. Nathan was 23 at the time . sadly he passed away a few months later due to overdose of antidepressants . Any way this guy so reminds me of my old friend !

  • i dunno how many of you realize this, but doing full range of motion with that kinda weight is extremely dangerous on the joints, tendons and ligaments. there's a reason they dont do it, regardless if they can or not.

  • @meawk worse for your knees? um, no. by doing less range of motion, you put less stress on your joints. hes not jerking or popping, his movement is smooth its just not deep. what you mean is that its bad to do partial range of motion with jerking. why do you think athletes going through rehab from injuries to their knees only do partial movement? feel free to do your our research before you try to come off as a know it all and sound like a prick. thanks.

I've done my research believe me, only doing half the motion lets you lift a lot more weight than you could properly which puts more stress on your ligaments having to support that, as well stopping the motion halfway puts a alot of stress on the meniscus. Why do you think olympic lifting has low rate of injuries. Every respectable coach (mark rippetoe, john broz etc) will advocate full squats.

  • @meawk and yet here this guy is, doing the weight and getting damn close to parallel, and his knees arent bothering him one bit. hes not an olympic lifter, hes a bodybuilder. sure, for an olympic lifter not going through full range of motion will put serious stress on joints, but that is because they are doing an explosive exercise. this guy is not doing an explosive exercise. hes trying to get his muscles to grow to an unnatural size. two completely different things.

  • @beezytoeasy im not talking about clean and jerk or snatch, olympic lifters always do their backsquats and front squats ass to grass. They just do low reps and high volume going for maxes almost every workout. From a bodybuilding perspective, squatting all the way down activates glutes and hamstrings way more than a half squat resulting in more muscle being activated. Some people believe shallow squats hit the teardrop more and that's fine as long as their supplemented to proper full squats

  • @beezytoeasy The difference from the bench is he's doing only the lower part of the motion which is the main part for the pecs anyways. If he was doing full squats but stopping short of locking out that would be the same. Anyways I didn't even comment on whether or not shallow squats are good for muscle development but that full squats are NOT bad for the knees was the point I was trying to get across...

  • @kingru77 I do agree that the poor depth with this amount of volume is silly. A lot of people just look for something to put down and that is crap, I'd like to see most people do this even. After looking at it again it is a bit of a joke. I only say that because he did the same thing with 875 in another video, I can get behind partials with gear on but max partials are a joke. I have and I get about 6 - 8 reps a little lower than this and I am telling you it is brutal. So unless you can do this kind of weight shut up!!!!   • @bslow21 Well really he did himself a disservice by saying 600 x 15 while only doing it at 1/2- 3/4 depth. Secondly, putting up that kind a weight is an accomplishment no doubt but I'd rather do my 400 x 15 ass to grass than a 600 x15 half squat. I'm willing to bet that guy can't go parallel at 600 x 2 let alone 6.

  • You do not always have to do deep squats when you're squatting. Ass to grass range of motion is good when you want to focus on glutes and hamstrings along with the quad. Focusing solely on the quads you should go about parallel you have some room for leeway. Anyway good video.

That guy is obviously strong but moving a lot of weight to parallel is entirely different from doing a cute little curtsy with it. Why don't you go try a quarter squat. Then you can tell all your buddies you just added 400lbs to your squat PR.

    If the reason you're doing half squats is to work your quads try front squats instead.

  • This translates to about 5 reps going to a classic USPF - IPF depth, which real men are judged. What you are doing is great, just call it what it is, you are half squatting. The second you hit or break parallel its a whole new ball game.
