Jimmy is simply incredible. I have seen mostof the great guitarists (not hendrix). The only others that can hold a candle to Page that I saw was Jeff Beck. Stevie Ray was incredible as well but not as versatile, he was 100% blues, but extremely awesome.
sloppy? yes maybe...but hendrix was as well, for example in the woodstock festival which is known for his best performance. it's not about hitting each single note, music is about feelings
I cannot play any way except sloppy . If I concentrate to hard on the notes I always lose the feel . And it takes from the spontanaeity of playing if u are too concerned about perfection . Who wants to hear a robot play guitar ???
The first video that I ever felt the need to comment on the fact that I have no possible way of expressing what this video does to my brain. And I love it when cameras close up on his fingers, they're so long it's a miracle that he gets them to move so fast I just dunno, I get all melancholic cos I can't see them live, ever
this ranks up there with some of the best compositions of all time, up there with some of the classical greats like Mozart and Bach, Jimmy page is an absolute genius.
If Mozart sucked - then how come in a time where there was NO TV - NO RADIO and NO MARKETING did his work become so popular and loved??
I'm not a huge fan of classical music - but the greats ARE great for a reason - a universal reason - and Jimmy Page has earned his place..... just sayin...
I think this is the performance where Page was sick and had to sit down. They ended the show early because he was so sick. Later they found it was food poisoning.
there is a video of that show leaked out into the public and you can see a sick Jimmy page fall down..that night he was on fire, but got ill fast.. its a bootleg of course. also you can find the show on bootleg. you can even get all 4 nights at chicago on cd . @AirJGFoLife69 Ya, bootlegging was a real problem 'cause of the small recorders that were coming out. They could be put inside a pocket and you could tape the whole show. Other bands who were infamous for being bootlegged were Deep Purple, Eric Burdon, Black Sabbath, The Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd.
@senojnomis HE's not sloppy. He's just so fucking amazing that the the amps and guitars of the time couldn't track the unholy speed with which he played and therefore the notes all ran together. and still it was beautiful.

I think that the people who are so judgemental of Pages playing should try and realize that if they had of lived at this time, when he played this, his playing was superior to most guitarist of the day and definately still is admired by all accomplished guitarists even today.Including myself-I've been playing for 48 years and I still love his sound.
The bit he does at about 1:13 is an arabic traditional song called "mustapha",is it not? Basically, this is absolutely amazing.Nobody ever played like that.He looks like he really loves what he's doing. And that is what makes him so special.Sigh...
now lets se malmsteen play that! right hand tecnique is fucking tecnical!
