  • Would I be able to change my driver side axel just as easy as this video shows? It there more to ramove than a bolt a pin and a c clamp thing? Any advice would help thanks and this is a great video...

  • Will we ever see a F150 front Diff swap????

  • @renthal971 We have no plans to show that, as it should be similar to the rear diff swap.

  • When are you going to swap the transmission pan?

  • @renthal971 Check out the newer "Fluids" episode

  • You said you put a friction modifier in for the LSD but that didn't look like a lsd differential.

  • 5:08 someone should of honked the horn..

  • so you guys only swapped the rear gears... and not the front.. on a 4x4?

  • @mobsterbillyjoe It's a 4x2.

  • @mobsterbillyjoe lol he even said 2 wheel drive in the video

  • @003Mexicano i wasnt listening about the Ford.. plus, 2 wheel drive trucks.. pointless in offroading and thats what im concerned about

  • Differentials are easy to work on, but by god that differential fluid can smell so bad!

  • @suddnstar It's horrible! Especially the stock fluid... it stunk up our studio for weeks!

  • @motorztv Yes i change the fluid for someone i only had couple of hours in my van it stunk my van i had to leave all the doors/windows open and spray it down lol.

  • wow, thanks a lot, this looks the same exact thing as the Mustang, I'm doing mine tomorrow, great video

  • I am doing this on a Ford 8.8 rear for my 03 f150. When you guys used the old bearings for dialing in the contact did you use the old crush sleeve and just snug up the pinion bolt until there is no wobble in the pinion?

  • Are the bearings on the diff pressed on as well or are they interference fit? I just want to change my diff without changing the gear ratio

  • Gear mesh pattern needs to be checked under load. Check my vid.

  • i have 2 questions i have a 1985 ford f150 and i was wandering do you have to program it for a 6" lift?and do you need to program it if you just switch back to stock tires for onroad and switch back to airplane tires for offroad

  • ive had a couple 1980-86 fords and no you wouldnt , just make sure you adjust the speedometer when you put the Bigger tires on it will give a false reading

  • whats the point of putting the friction mod. in when this truck doesnt have a limited slip?

  • @TorqueRider2000 it is limited slip. certain models came with the 3.73 LS

  • On my 05 the driver side spider gear is chewed up....do i need to replace the whole diff or can i just replace the gear?

  • Just a thought for taking the old bearing off you could heat it up with a torch enough so that it expands and falls off the old pinion not sure just my 2 cents. Great video by the way im just about to install gears now I feel better haha.

  • There’s a lot more to this then talked about, no comment about pinion preload, backlash, how hard it is to compress the crush sleeve, shim pack, when you go over 456 gears your center pin no longer fits and you need a lot of tools.

  • @Mostertruckbuilder AGREED!!!

  • @1998F150WES Yes, if you can get it off without destroying it. I don't think you'll be able to :)

  • Don't forget to do the front diff!

  • GOOD JOB! MOTORZ are the best! from ROMANIA

  • @uclujvg Thanks for checking in, Romania!!

  • What size rims r those

  • @groshong1 They are Dick Cepek DC-1 17X9 Chrome Wheels

  • thanks,I need to do this to my jeep 87,do you have any tips for that vehicle?I have 35"x14.5 tires.I bought it that way not knowing a whole lot about offroad vehicles and after braking a few things and falling in love with it,I've decided the tires either have to go our the gears need to change.bye bye gears...I;m shure i can do it,Ibuilt trannys and heads, this dosent look hard.Is dialing in the adjustment for the pinion gear the most critical step for my jeep?and should ratio be same 4 front?

  • What is the cost for parts and labor?

  • @ps3fanboy1885 I'm not positive, but I've heard it's around $1,000 -- it's a lot of labor!

  • @motorztv for a new rear diff and gears on my old mustang it ran me a little over 2500....parts alone cost me 1200 flat...yeah, labor is a very very large price

  • FYI: dont ever use MOTIVE gears, you get what you pay for, i would recomend YUKON

  • @fastvolvo1 I can't say that we have ever had any problems with Motive gears. Their products are great!

  • o yeah... o yeah...that smells wonderful. LOL

  • just wondering but does having a higher gear ratio make your 0-60 times faster because i got a 98 expedition with 3.31 no limited slip and it's fast as hell and it's stock, somebody please explain for me

  • @spk9grsch the higher the number that ur ring and pinion is the lower of a gear

  • and what about backlash? nothing was said about it

  • Do the races HAVE to be removed/reinstalled? or are you basically just putting the same thing back in?

and do you know if my 97 f150 4x4 with 8.8 rearend would be identical to this one? or would there be differences between the two

  • Great step by step instructions and detail! I'm getting ready to do a similar swap on my mustang and this video is a huge help. Can you do a camshaft swap to show us newbies how it's done?

  • what rpm are you running at on highway with the new gears? How bad has it affected fuel consumption?

  • Great show guys I wish there was more stuff like this on Youtube. Being around cars all my life this is one of the few things I've never attempted myself.

Only compalaint you guys put friction modifier on an OPEN diff so it doesn't hurt anything but it sure doesn't help. Thats not necessary unless you got a clutch type LSD and possibly some others.

One thing I do have a question about is if its necessary to reset the ring and pinion if installing a LSD unit? It seems unlikely

  • there are a lot of trucks out there that the speedo has never been corrected.

  • I may be blind, but i dint saw any posi in your diff you talked about when adding the oil?

  • do those m/t make lots of road noise

  • @Perazzi11 A little bit, but not much compared to something more aggressive like muds.

  • Another fantastic episode Chris! Keep up the awesome work!

  • what about the marking the bearing caps and the pinion bearing pre-load?

  • i supposed you probably should have mentioned that if you have a 4x4 you need to change both the front and rear gears. but if your truck is a 2wd pre runner just the rear will be all thats needed.........

  • @08scionFM True, you have to make sure both front and rear axles have the same gear ratios if you have a 4x4.

  • Awesome install I learned alot from it!

  • @coolguy23448 Thanks for watching!

  • Hey Chris,

What kind of tires are on that truck? What is the tire size also?

  • @Ahkomaton They are 35" Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ and I love them. They are quiet and wear well. I highly recommend them.

  • probably the best video yet, very in complicated install but you did a great job showing every little step

  • @biffnacid Thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it!

  • Nice install guys, Glad we could help you out with the DiabloSport Trinity.

  • @DiabloSportInc Thanks again for helping us out!

  • great episode !!

  • Always wanted to learn how to do this. Awesome job!!

  • Very in-depth...
