i love the sisters of mercy, so im not talking shit but i have to say i call this the fozzy bear song. as a die hard muppet fan, the wokka wokka wokka-way brings him to mind right away. perhaps eldritch has an appreciation of muppetry?
Something weird I noticed he says "there wasn't a part of me that didn't want to say goodbye" that would mean he really does want to say goodbye but I assume from the rest of the lyrics he meant to say he doesn't want to
Man, this record was one some serious rotation when I was growing up. I loved the sister's sound, and their album sleeves. Thank god I didn't know what they looked like!
Oh yeah, don't forget Gary Numan! Ha... he was the guy that made the 80's hit "Cars" but most of his stuff was actually rather gothic, in a weird way... Started in 1977, couple years before Bauhaus.
CD is original Deathrock, or American Goth, original goth, i guess the first "Official" goth release was "Bella Legusi's Dead" a single by Bauhaus.
WAAAAAYYYY before CD.
Although there where non-record label groups that had a similar thing before them.
And it wasn't just Eldritch, ALL the originals denied the term. Why? Because no "Goth" band ever gets mainstream success. They wanted to be Rockstars, not Gothstars. Oh, And so did CD.

'though music like this would be hard to top, a big crying shame they broke up after their first album together (let's not go into law suits etc)

I dont get why this album is said to have such shitty production. It works perfectly for their style and atmosphere.
