I be sending offers back in pre-paid envelopes with VOID across the application. I cut to size junk to fill envelope.... card advertisements, cardboard, magazines I no longer want. And I OVER WEIGHT their envelopes to the point that their thickness far surpasses the envelope thickness template at the post office (yup, the post office has a plastic measure templates) Well make sure THEY pay more in return postage! Mail 1st of ea mo all offers... see how they dwindle in your mail box.
From the UK........Nice one being doing this for years if not only to keep the post office workers in a job......educational material is also good.......credit union, animal welfare, anti-capilist etc, like you say join a union!.
Some banks seem to have caught onto this. I notice that a few of them stopped using postage-paid envelopes, and give you a website and/or toll-free number instead.
Another way to hit the big corps is to send in the subscription cards from magazines such as Forbes, Business Week, Time, etc. Write a message on it such as Help To Create Postal Jobs.
This is hilarious! Although you might want to check your facts about who ruined the economy. Dumbasses that don't read mortgage contracts when they sign them are the true idiots...
@rorytmeadows It is the bank's job to complete a full check of someone's finances prior to loaning money to someone. It is irresponsible to give a ARM loan to someone who you know will not be able to pay it back, just so you can flip their inevitable foreclosed house and then make it difficult or impossible for a small business owner to obtain a loan. The people signing the contracts were at fault as well, but they weren't the subject matter experts, the bankers should have been.
@rorytmeadows Yes, and the fact that the bankers would look for uneducated ppl who don't understand the terminology. The egging them on to take out said loans. The banks would get as many bad loans they could fine, even ppl who could have gotten good loans, were given bad ones so that they could sell the loans to other banks. The bankers made a fortune off this scam.
@Boudiga Best also poit out that people want to keep up with or be better than the jones, and if also people were very happy to speculate on what their house would be worth in the future, and finally, people dont complain when the unit trust, and such go up in value, but they dont like when they do read the small print and it says, that the they may also fall in value. Also many wouldnt give a fuck if the investments they make were in weapons/funding oppessive countries.
@amemy1 Oh yes this whole trend of over spending is a big problem. I completely agree. Mind I myself am not vain or materialistic. However I notice how ppl will treat you very differently if your not trying to catch up w/ the jones. Its rather nasty. The fact that I don't crave to wear the latest trends and don't give a rats ass who is popular has caused social issues. Now I"m a strong person and will still keep to my morals, where a weaker person may not be so.
TAPE THE RETURN ENVELOPE TO A EMPTY USPS LARGE PRIORITY FLAT RATE BOX and mail the box out through the "box" slot at the post office. Mail only the message in it. This keeps the weight down, so that more fuel is not used, and the companies will have to pay anywhere from $4.00 - $15.00, depending on the size of the BOX. The bigger the USPS box, the more expensive it is; the revenue goes back to the Government. You can also tape another envelope from a competing card company as a return address.
You cost the banks money they will simply pass it back to the customer ... or they could stop mailing out free post envelopes which means old folks can't mail cheques in.
This will have no effect other than to cost us money ... the only way to let banks know we won't take this anymore is to ignore there pleas for your custom, recycle their spam marketing in the knowledge that they haven't polluted the environment as well as our economies.

I love this, and thank you for the info about the rigid mail, gonna have my husband go though his wood scraps to send all that junk mail credit offers we get. We don't use credit, we are slowly paying off and buying things with cash or checks only. I figured the more money they lose the better off we will be! Love the ideas and Thank YOU!!
It's a cool idea. But pretty naive that the bank will be too busy sorting this shit out to lobby congress or foreclose homes. There aren't just like 4 guys that do all the stuff at the bank, and if they are in a meeting the bank just stops everything else.
I work for a data processing center and have noticed an influx of empty envelopes and envelopes that look like someone cleaned off their desk into them. I'm far from upset or frustrated. I'm paid hourly and it's nice to be entertained by unexpected items, however, please don't send things that stink i.e. cheese or poop.

Most of the pre-approved credit card apps I get in the mail are addressed to 'Occupant", meaning whoever lives at my house so they firstly don't know who lives there, and secondly, they don't actually care. This says a lot especially the fact they are sending pre-approved credit card apps to almost everyone. How is that possible?
To be fair - big banks weren't alone. They made bad loans to people that couldn't afford them. That's on the banks and on the . people that applied for the loans and SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. Banks are there to make money, not to look out for John and Jane Doe's financial stability. That's their responsibility and the public needs to man up.
He's not the first person to have this idea, unfortunately the mailers (in this case the banks) have already asked the postal service to dispose of any return envelopes that have been "inappropriately used," including made rigid, over-stuffed, etc. If you're going to do this, a few pieces of paper is all that will get by, just enough to waste their precious time at the processing center. And if you think about it, time IS money, so you're still being effective in covert warfare.
Nice tactic, gonna give it a try next time I get junkmail from the banks. However, I do have one question: how does doing this keep a bank occupied from lobbying the govt or foreclosing on a mortgage? (since they're so huge, wouldn't they have different departments to handle those different areas of operations?)
Gary Johnson is the best presidential candidate for the american people. He has the most logical and ethical economic solutions for this nation as a whole. This whole thing is bull, the government and the banks told us what they were doing, we bought into it because of our collective greed and the thought that we could get something for nothing. It's not the banks, its not the government, its not the stock brokers (who collectively came out worse than anyone else for the most part) its everybody. the 5% are exploiting the 95% because they want to be the 1%. Zuccotti Park is home to drug addicts and homeless people.
It will be as annoying as a fly on a horses behind. Plus they will just raise bank fees to offset the loses and teach us a lesson. Nice try though, thinking outside the box.
rockon: this morning's headlines (11/8/11) seem to indicate that 19 banks are being indicted. Haven't read the story yet, so I don't know which banks or what the charges are.
I agree about all the "tard" comments...it is ALL ABOUT costing them MORE MONEY to MAIL IT BACK!!....don't you get the point??...point is NOT who will open it...point is NOT why/when they will charge us more because of this, for banks cannot charge more because they're already raping us to death, so more death on death??...blah it gets old being ripped off by "legalized" criminal activity...so fk em!
You would spend this much time doing this when you have your facts wrong? Government caused the crisis......not business. If you were a business and didn't buy out the gov. you'd be at a disadvantage. They are just trying to adapt to the situation we are all in....you guys are in the wrong place...

LEARN how the big banks are selling fake loans made of thin air and are charging people paper money to pay back the loan and interest ON A LOAN THAT WAS NEVER MADE.
WOW... as I read some of the pessimistic and defeatist reactions to this video, I now understand how so many Americans give the banks so much power.
Statements like: "BANKS CAN STRIKE BACK!! " and
" the mail will probably just get opened by some poor sap gets paid peanuts... He/she's not your enemy..." and "What exactly did the banks do that was illegal?"
This kind of thinking is exactly why the mogul minority believes they can do anything they want when dealing with our economy.
2 things first of all banks will always have a way of getting back at you by making a new rule or making something more expencieve,,,and plus dont they usually XRAY an envolope if it appears heavy or if it feels kind of strange,,,dont they usually xray the envolpe,,yea its a nice Idea but always rememberm,,,,,,,,, BANKS CAN STRIKE BACK!!
Sounds clever on the surface but this tactic is extraordinarily short-sighted. For every nickel we force them to pay, the banks WILL devise yet another scheme / legal opportunity for charging us more money in order to offset the postage pittance you're suggesting we plague them with. If you really want a reaction that helps the 99%, come up with something that isn't counterproductive.
Have you ever wondered about the bar codes on those envelopes? Are they the same on every envelope or can the bank trace the envelope back to who they sent it to? Anybody know? I'm trying not to be paranoid, but you know we are dealing with some rather slimy people when talking about big banks. (I say people, because as you all know, corporations are now people, Thank you very much US Supreme Court .)
A link to this video will be in the next issue(Wed Nov 9th, 2011) of the"International Forecaster" the largest financial-economic-social-political newsletter in the world published by the great Bob Chapman. Its a great video. -thanks to whoever made it.
I do not agree that we have to go higher up the latter. These envelopes usually have a specific destination and that is to a processing department. I do agree that they are poor saps, but poor saps complain and will complain the more of this stuff they get. Those poor saps have managers, and those mangers have supervisors.....so lets not be to dismissive just yet ok?
Dont annoy the mail clerks in the bank. Secondly time spent in meetings about this is time not spent lobbying congress. Are you under the impression that the banks are owned and run by just one guy? Please, banks have more than enough resources and manpower to do both.
People have been doing this for decades. It's not new by any means, but it's nice to see a revival of a great idea with a little innovation of a personal, political message attached...and added weight!~
Unfortunately while this seems like an amusing idea, the mail will probably just get opened by some poor sap in the bank's mailroom who gets paid peanuts for being there. He/she's not your enemy, gotta go higher up the ladder to annoy the fat cats.
@theylive23 The point of this is not to harm the people that "just work (t)here." This could cost the major banks quite a bit of money if it's orchestrated properly.
in a practical sense, while this seems clever, and is very funny, having worked for a large financial institution for a very very long time, I can tell you that ultimately the big bank would just cut the interest rate on yr savings acct or start charging debit card fees to justify the true additional cost of handling this type of mail. The real way to make an effective protest is to 1. MOVE your money out of the big bank into a community bank or credit union. And let them know why. clever vid
I started mailing back return envelopes from banking and credit card solicitors years ago. I sent them back with a note. Don't send me anymore of this garbage. I don't get them anymore.
I like the idea if you want to thwart junk mail. But the banks didnt create the housing collapse i.e., massive foreclosures...congress did! Do your homework, congress passed laws making banks give people loans to buy houses who couldnt afford them. I would support the OWS movement if they were protesting the White House and Congress but to protest Wall Street who is playing by the rules that congress created doesnt make any sense.
@MrsScamChecker --You have this all wrong my friend. Congress was LOBBIED (Paid) to deregulate banks so they (Wall St. The Banks) could screw us with sub-prime loans, etc. Saying that Wall St. was "...playing by the rules" is severely misguided and naive. They "Played" by the rules they paid congress to create in their favor.
That's all nice and fine, but without wanting to be to abusive I have to say this guy's FULL OF SHIT!The banks through their FED create credit/money out of thin air i.e. they have access to UNLIMITED RESOURCES!If you want to change the world don't occupy WS,occupy the FED and ask for the abolition of the Federal Reserve System and a return to a commodities backed currency, the gold standard or such.ALL THE POWER the bankers have comes from their monopoly on counterfeiting.END OF!
I did this years ago, but instead I would take applications from one bank and put them in an envelope for another bank and the mail it.
No doubt greedy banks will find some way to pass those postage fees back to us. But look at all their hidden credit card fees and interest rates over 20-30% their making. Now look at the interest rate for all your bank accounts. They are all well under 2-5% Look at what bank are making on 30 yr home mortgages and the Banks are (Or should be) doing pretty well
I wonder if the increase in their postage costs will be passed along to the end user? Ultimately us? Can you see our banking fees increase because of this?
The video's solution doesn't convey message beyond "annoying."
I print out "Occupy Wall Street Protest" on a sheet of paper and insert it in the envelope to return. My wife does the same in her office with dozens of free offers per week.
I used to tie up condoms and send them to the bank that overtook my student loans. When another banking industry came & overtook those loans, new policies were instated retro-actively... Myself being someone who dreads to be screwed with, I flipped a role-reversal and started to screw with them.
After 3 months have past of me sending in my ticket and check from the student loan book written on it I am "Broke and in Default" and here is my MINIMAL payment per your default agreement @$25/ month wrapped up in a condom filled with Astro-Glide. They refused to accept my payment. It was never returned to me or my bank, BUT the bill was still there and ever increasing :(
This guy's a moron. Do you really think that banks are going to cease everything they're doing to have a focus group meeting about why they're getting a few thousand junk reply envelopes? "Every hour banks spend reacting to 'us' is an hour banks don't spend lobbying congress on how to screw us." That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. The Presidents and CEO's aren't going to take 2 seconds out of their day to investigate these "mysterious" reply envelopes. Good luck fightin' the man!
@paradoxtma Well how about being the designer in the marketing department for a local credit union. We're the ones who get all the "reply" mail and just dump in the recycle when we see it's junk. They never cross CEO's desks and they don't waste a single breathe on them. We waste one, maybe two breathes on them, to open up the envelope and then it's gone and forgotten. Just like these "occupy" movements will be in a few months. Especially if your tactics continue to resemble the one in the video
I read about someone who used to do this years ago, in the end it got to court, but since he only put "business offers" (other junk mail) in the envellope he got away with it.
Glad to see this old idea being used again, with any luck on a bigger scale this time.
Reaction from banks: Cut ties with post office, effectively cutting out a portion of the Post Offices' income, while still foreclosing on houses, and, since they are no longer paying for return envelopes, increasing the lobbyist's, and presumably the CEO's, paycheck. Message indeed received, in 30 seconds flat.
Is there anyone here who works at a bank, company that sends out pre-paid envelopes, or the Post Office who might know how companies receiving unwanted mail in their pre-paid envelopes will respond? I would worry that the costs would somehow impact people's jobs & consumers before the banks would let it impact their business or their top people's financial security. Seems like there's room for unexpected backlash. Don't want to do anything that'd hurt honest working people. Anybody got answers?
BUT IF YOU AND MILLIONS STOP USING THOSE SUCKERS BANKERS THEY WILL GET THE MESSAGE. THE BIG CORPORATIONS NEED US, THEY NEED SOMEONE TO STEAL MONEY FROM, EITHER THROUGH SCAMS OR HIGH FEES, YET THEY NEED US TO MAKE MONEY. WE CAN ALL USE CREDIT UNIONS INSTEAD OF BIG BANKS.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I REALLY DID LAUGH ALL THOSE "HAHAHA's"
DO NOT PUT ANYTHING RIGID IN THE ENVELOPE! there is a youtube video that recommends putting wooden shims in the envelope. this will force the Post office to work the mail manually. If the mail stays in the automated mail flow, it will be processed at a rate of about 42k pieces per hour. If it is processed manually, it will be processed at about 700 pieces an hour. Post office is struggling to save money, keep it in the machine!
The OW movement is a confused, muddled mess. You have NO clear message, and the ONLY message that's getting through is that you're a bunch of over indulgent cry babies looking for a handout. That may not be the message you're intending to communicate, but it's the only one I'm really hearing.

WOW... as I read some of the pessimistic and defeatist reactions to this video, I now understand how so many Americans give the banks so much power.
Statements like: "BANKS CAN STRIKE BACK!! " and
" the mail will probably just get opened by some poor sap gets paid peanuts... He/she's not your enemy..." and "What exactly did the banks do that was illegal?"
This kind of thinking is exactly why the mogul minority believes they can do anything they want when dealing with our economy.
n2buds 3 months ago 2
2 things first of all banks will always have a way of getting back at you by making a new rule or making something more expencieve,,,and plus dont they usually XRAY an envolope if it appears heavy or if it feels kind of strange,,,dont they usually xray the envolpe,,yea its a nice Idea but always rememberm,,,,,,,,, BANKS CAN STRIKE BACK!!

Redlocokixx 3 months ago

I do not agree that we have to go higher up the latter. These envelopes usually have a specific destination and that is to a processing department. I do agree that they are poor saps, but poor saps complain and will complain the more of this stuff they get. Those poor saps have managers, and those mangers have supervisors.....so lets not be to dismissive just yet ok?
solarjunky 3 months ago
Dont annoy the mail clerks in the bank. Secondly time spent in meetings about this is time not spent lobbying congress. Are you under the impression that the banks are owned and run by just one guy? Please, banks have more than enough resources and manpower to do both.

I always send the junk mail back in PP envelopes, but I forgot all about rigid mailers being more expensive. Going to get woods shims...
kaylynewcomer 3 months ago
in a practical sense, while this seems clever, and is very funny, having worked for a large financial institution for a very very long time, I can tell you that ultimately the big bank would just cut the interest rate on yr savings acct or start charging debit card fees to justify the true additional cost of handling this type of mail. The real way to make an effective protest is to 1. MOVE your money out of the big bank into a community bank or credit union. And let them know why. clever vid

MrsScamChecker 3 months ago
@MrsScamChecker --You have this all wrong my friend. Congress was LOBBIED (Paid) to deregulate banks so they (Wall St. The Banks) could screw us with sub-prime loans, etc. Saying that Wall St. was "...playing by the rules" is severely misguided and naive. They "Played" by the rules they paid congress to create in their favor.
transientdreams 3 months ago 3
That's all nice and fine, but without wanting to be to abusive I have to say this guy's FULL OF SHIT!The banks through their FED create credit/money out of thin air i.e. they have access to UNLIMITED RESOURCES!If you want to change the world don't occupy WS,occupy the FED and ask for the abolition of the Federal Reserve System and a return to a commodities backed currency, the gold standard or such.ALL THE POWER the bankers have comes from their monopoly on counterfeiting.END OF!
zvelekva 3 months ago
I did this years ago, but instead I would take applications from one bank and put them in an envelope for another bank and the mail it.
No doubt greedy banks will find some way to pass those postage fees back to us. But look at all their hidden credit card fees and interest rates over 20-30% their making. Now look at the interest rate for all your bank accounts. They are all well under 2-5% Look at what bank are making on 30 yr home mortgages and the Banks are (Or should be) doing pretty well

The video's solution doesn't convey message beyond "annoying."

Good luck fightin' the man!
andrewj2432 3 months ago
@andrewj2432 - So tell me which bank you're the CEO of, and I won't waste my time sending back your crap.
paradoxtma 3 months ago

TStalker013 3 months ago
