I might be a tad bit late with throwing my two cents in to this whole who-wrote-what-game discussion, but Roberta Williams did NOT write the Space Quest series. She did wrote the King's Quest games, but Space Quest were all written by Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy (Two Guys From Andromeda). The reason the games look very similar is because they (Sierra On-Line) used the same game engine to produce both game series (as well many, many other games).
@ReverendSyn At least there're people like DataDog (with his Incinerations fangame), Sledgy and Dr Slash (with the SQ5.5 and SQ12 fan games), and Infamous Adventures with SQ2's remake...
@sslaxx You know, you're absolutely right.. I had forgotten about those. My sister had played some of those King's Quest remakes. Very professional looking stuff.
@sslaxx seeing the success Telltale has had with Monkey Island and Sam and Max, I'm sure they'll get around to it at some point, right after Jurassic Park and The Walking Dead
@tonydecaro you mean you didnt notice how space quest and king's quest have many things alike, graphics, the inventory thing, how you save the game, and how much humor it has in the deaths???
@krane6457 As far as I know, Roberta Williams was just a writer, so the fact that the games look alike just shows that many of the same artists and programmers worked on them.
As for the story and humor, it certainly may have been inspired by King's Quest, but that doesn't mean that the same person wrote it.
@CrazyliciousFlavor then why is it very similiar AND have 'quest' in it like king's quest? besides, in the very first games of both kings and space quest if you die at the end or something it says "roberta williams says thank you for playing kings/space quest!" or something
@krane6457 The Quest in the title was kind of Sierra's trademark, like in Police Quest or Quest for Glory (formerly known as Hero's Quest) which were arguably not that similar to the others.
Since Roberta was co-founder of Sierra, I guess that is why it says "Roberta Williams says thank you for playing King's/Space Quest" when you die in either game (Ken Williams also appeared at the end of the Leisure Suit Larry remake).
But if you don't believe me, look it up for yourself on Wikipedia or IMDB.
There's alot of space quest fan games that came out this year, check them out

Sierra sacking the staff was still a dick move.

@ReverendSyn By that point Sierra was in the hands of what would eventually become Vivendi Games.

@ReverendSyn And now it might not be dead. Strange how things it works out.

@sslaxx What do you mean? Ken and Roberta fired all the creators on Chainsaw Monday.
Now there isnt even a Sierra Games anymore

@ReverendSyn Not heard of Telltale games getting the license?
sslaxx 1 year ago
@sslaxx No I hadn't.
ReverendSyn 1 year ago
@sslaxx Can you confirm that from Telltale? I haven't read anything like that on the newsletters yet.
If they do, The Two Guys from Andromeda would probably be happy to join in.

@Stoney3K Space Quest? Not yet confirmed, I'd imagine that depends on how well King's Quest does.

space quest was a great game, but i think roberta (the creator of space quest and king's quest) did a better job on king's quest, in my own opinion
krane6457 2 years ago
What? Roberta Williams had nothing to do with Space Quest.

Yea, Space Quest was made by those two guys from Andromeda.
