Does anybody else get the feeling that Wayne is looking this as his requiem tribute to Syd Barrett and how he would interpret this album, being the only real post-syd album that he would realistically have any part of from an artistic standpoint??? Some things must be left alone; and this is one of them. If you want to cover this album do it in your own time or play it in one of your shows, but dont release it as an actual album. It's like somebody remaking Beethoven's 5th and 9th, or Mozart's Don Giovanni -- you just cant! One needs to have respect.

I'd like this more if the main vocals ("Taking away, the moments that make up the dull day...") were the same notes as the original, but they really fucked up on the other vocals ("Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time..."). I liked the way this started, but they managed to fuck it up when the vocals kicked in.

Forget for a minute, if you can, what this is a "cover' of. You might call this 'music", and, granted: It qualifies, at least technically.

However, it is BAD music---just as obnoxious as any noise committed to vinyl/tape/disc/hard-drive. This is not anywhere near in the same class as The Residents, or Henry Cow; this is noise for the sake of noise. You don't have to "get them" to know the difference.

Third, The Flaming Lips are artists, and gave this album a try with their style (of course featuring whoever). 1st of all I'm a huge Floyd fan! My favourite 3 albums r Piper At The Gates Of The Dawn, Obscured By Clouds, Meddle.. Now that's my "Credentials" to have an opinion. I can appreciate this as a cover I think it's pretty well done to be fair, I wont buy it which is why I'm listening to it on youtube. I agree it's league with The Residents but what is? Incidently The King & Eye is the way to do covers in my opinion, make them your own the lips can't do that with DSOTM but at least live they cover songs like Lucifer Sam in the same set as doing Death Valley 69 by Sonic Youth! who else does that in this day and age?

I would have to agree. Sadly this is an example of how far the flaming lips have fallen. Once a great band and now just sort of sad and washed up. they havent made a good record since satellite heart. soft bulletin and yoshimi were both very uneven and forgettable.
