Powerful words from a very wise man........I can now appreciate how is pamphlet "Common Sense" stirred a nation into action..........Pity he died in poverty and squalor.
Paine was a deist not a stupid christian! Just like Thomas Jefferson. This was never meant to be a CHRISTIAN COUNTRY, but a country to get away from religous persecution, which is all christians are good for, forceing crap down everyones throat. The pinicle of OPPOSITE Ideals to this country christianity as a whole is unamerican.
Wow...Thomas Paine had trouble trusting peoples' word. I wonder what he thought of the court of law where a large part of what a judge makes his decision on is a person's words. Obviously he's doomed to disbelief in most cases of his life. How silly.
thank you!! i had to read this for hw..and its hard for me to understand what i am reading..and listening to things is always helpful for me. so again..thank you :)
That is not Thomas Paine in the portrait. It has been misattributed repeated over the years. Not certain WHO it is, but it's not Paine (two theories: Sam Adams ... who it resembles ... or, more likely, Robert Treat Paine ... who changed his name FROM his given name, Thomas Paine, because he hated our Thomas Paine so much). I can find you a much better image, if you like.
Thank you for posting this video. Great words from one of our Founding Fathers. This is what "Freedom of (or from) Religion" is really all about. Too bad the majority of Americans would disagree with me. They would rather use their personal ideolgies (and government) to control and contain people, rather than free themselves. Anyone remember, Laissez faire.
@sonole Thank you for your response. Yes, an environment in which transactions between private parties are free from state intervention. Freedom from the Church state.
Thank you so.much for posting this online.

This man was a thinker. His ideas still live on. He was a logical man.

Wise words from an enlightened thinker. He would have nullified the myths of Joseph Smith and L Ron Hubbard in seconds.
