First: there are several degrees to torture. Comparing this to Nazis, is a disgrace to their victims.
Second: To handle the suspected terrorist in the manner shown in this documentary, is definitely wrong by all standards. But, a confirmed terrorist, who doesn't abide by the proper rules of warfare or the Geneva Convention, should be protected by these rules?!
actually the CIA armed the afghans through Pakistan in order to stop the Soviet Union from eliminating all position to Afghanistan becoming communist and joining the USSR, so before u talk shit, read a book
You should be forgiven in the same way as the Nazi guards from the ww2 detention camps should be forgiven. Yes, those incharge are the most guilty, they are abominations, and deserve worse than death. But a soldier has the duty to NOT follow illegal orders or orders that conflict with humanities most profound laws. These soldiers and everyone in the chain of command up to the president are guilty of war crimes, and this world has no place for them.
Don't compare them to Nazi's, the German's outlawed torture 200+ years ago. German camp guards caught torturing was imprisoned. The evil camp commandant depicted in Schindler's list got a death sentence in real life IN A GERMAN COURT for the death of two inmates. He was hung in the same camp BEFORE it's liberation by the Allies. These guys make the Nazi's look good.
I totally agree with you and am applauded with how Obama dealt with these men who tortured the prisoners. The world learned something from Nuremberg but I guess Obama and his masters didn't. What am I talking about, after Nuremberg they took many of those monsters and used them to work for the American government in what's called The Paper Clip Project. Obama basically said they were given orders and therefore can't be held accountable, sounds like Bush never left office or McCain won. TotalBS

These vile sons of bitches deserve to die. John Yoo is a fucking vile son of a bitch. Fuck all of them.
Worst part of it all is that 99% of the USA goes on not paying attention to things of real value like this, and instead are more interested in Britney Spears.
Disgusting. The American people are the ones to blame for this yes I said it, ALL of them.
All these soldiers should be held responsible for their actions, after all they have the ability to think, and you'd have to be really stupid to not know torture is a crime. Even if they didn't know, ignorance is never an excuse. I hope these soldiers have nightmares every night for the crimes they've done. It still doesn't compare to their crimes. I'm sorry... I just can't sympathize with murderers and torturers. Even IF they were simply taking orders. What a fuckin' bullshit excuse!
the military officers and rumfield are even more guilty than the soldiers who as you say were only following orders. The punishments decended down the ranks instead of going up to the officers and politicans who enforced the "new" rules to begin with!
That's true, but like that one soldier said, 'it is easy to say it here, go over there and say that' it is the civilian leadership that is responsible for what the armies do. When the Nazis were tried after WWII, it was not the soldiers committing the crimes that were tried but the people giving the orders, which is the way it should be.
You're right. But the soldiers are not robots, and therefore have a mind of their own. They have the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. I doubt that soldier would've accepted 'it is easy to say it here, go over there and say that' as an excuse if instead of some innocent Afghan taxi driver, it was his own brother/close friend that got killed by another army that way. Something tells me he'll think that's a ridiculous excuse for killing an innocent man.
Please raise your consciousness, nations are an illusion just like democracy. There is a group that controls events on the EARTH in order to maintain power and control, possibly even more diabolical reasons beyond my current understanding. I know you CHOOSE to look the other way, because that's convenient. But these people are related to you on a spiritual level that you may not understand. Killing them, or condoning killing them, is killing yourself on a higher level.
This is incredible... this is why the world hates you americans. americans are even worst than the Nazis, this is why when i hear in the news than american soldiers have gotten killed in iraq or afghanistan i can´t help smiling. this is why i choose not to be an american anymore, i am ashamed.
Precisely right intellectual, it might be hard to do and the individual might undergo court martial and even be discharged unhonorable from the military but that is the path of morality. Just like the guys who refused to get the anthrax vaccinations, and were thrown into the brig and discharged with a BCD. I still have friends who went through this and are trying to get thier discharge overturned even when the DOD knows they are not safe for injection.
As a veteran I have to say that while I support the men in women in uniform we all take an oath. This oath is to support and defend the Constitution of the U.S. and to follow the orders of those appointed above me according to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I didn't see the use of torture every condoned or authorized in any of the UCMJ articles.
What is a soldier supposed to do when they are faced with an order from superiors that contradicts the US Constitution? Suppose you are asked to round up Americans in America and put them into camps, would you do that because you were told or would you say "No" because you know it goes against the constitution? Torture has been proven to be useless because when you're torturing someone they're bound to tell you whatever you want to hear which is obviously bad for many reasons. Torture does go on
Patriotism, nationalism, racism... combined with retarded religious ideas. People make me sick.
I'm even sickened by those of you that realize this is wrong but hope for some kind of divine judgement. Grow up. This stuff is even more horrible when you realize that there is no good reason to believe in god or any kind of divine judgement. Maybe you'll fight harder for justice once you abandon your fairy tales and accept the harsh reality... that this short life is all there is.
Such big brave men. I would love to see these cunts in the same situation as the poor bloke they killed. I only hope these bastards have since een killed, preferably mutilated first.

-Should have gone with my own morality??? If you had any morality you would not be involved in human-torture. Please see dictionary for Morals buddy. Too bad that we all have to pay for our sins in the end, all of us.
they effectively sell their souls the minute they join the military. May their blood serve as a sacrifice to the 1 million civilians killed in their genocide.
Many Americans believe they're doing the right thing even when they're doing wrong and I hope God will take that into account for all our sakes because what is righteous in ones eyes in evil in another's. Values and morals are something that is put in us from our culture, family, religion and what have you, and so therefor I recommend always sticking with your heart and doing what is right there and not whats right for you in the now. Most people don't want to hurt other people.
I do NOT understand how the hypocratic U.S. policies of George W. Bush and Donald Rumsfeld, Chenney could result in such Satanic, Odious acts?! There seems to be a Huge Conspiracy in this War and it doesnt seem to be for the security for the people of U.S. but REVENGE for 9/11! More than 90% of these detainees probably do not even have any involvement with al-qaeda!! Where is their rights?! Who ARE THEIR REPRESENTATIVES?! I don't blame for the Anti-U.S. Anti Israel policies at ALL! Makes me sick
It's the mind of the people being manipulated by groups like the Bilderburg Group, Club of Rome, CFR, secret societies/elite... their plans create this corruption for they plan to chip us and control us ALL - It's not "the American way" - I'm a Canadian and I'm sick of people blaming the country and citizens - yes, they're ignorant and arrogant, but its the programers who have created this and ANY of us would be vulnerable & would need wakingup just as we need to LOVINGLY wakeup as many aswecan!
Yes they can. That is what soldiers DO. They were lied to and told that these people were all terrorists, and that they would save their fellow soldiers' lives by following their orders. That being said, I am not saying they should not be held responsible, but the higher ups should too. Anyone involved should be held responsible and punished accordingly.
I'm not saying contesting the fact that whether they would have wanted to or not they would have followed their orders. I'm saying I believe they followed these orders, but something inside of them wanted it to happen as well. And it's not just the work of their higher ups. It's the work of the Western media as well.
I agree with you these soldiers that tortured these people weren't just following orders, they were taking pleasure in what they were doing and you can see it in the faces of these them in the photos they took while torturing them. The media is part to blame for this, the media demonizes Muslims in the news/movies and so therefor its no wonder these people do what they do and have fun with it. None of them ever said "No I'm not going to allow these people to be tortured and I'm not taking part"
The US can move forward but I don't think they will because they hate admitting they did wrong. If they do try and move past this it's going to take a whole lot of time and the US will have to show the world they have changed, but like I said I don't think they will. And what's really sad is that most Americans wouldn't ever do something like torture but when your countries at war and does things like this then the nation gets blamed as a whole for allowing the leaders to carry out such madness.
Yeah but look at how long it's taken Germany to move past Nazism, I think the point Toyotataxi was making was that this whole torture thing the US is involved with has left a bad taste in everyones mouth and the world isn't much liking the US at the moment and it'll take a lit of work and forgiving from the rest of the world to get past this.
the comparison with germany is a good one because its basically the same disease, but i fear the foul basis that led germany into fascism is even more solid in america, and americas modern fascism is more refined, the torture issue is only one tip of the iceberg, its not a bad recent period, its in the foundation of the western countries, europe had the catastrophe of the world wars to wake them up, sadly Ive come to doubt that america will make ever make this step without a similar catastrophe
Ah, you mean on an international/political scale. The way I read it, I saw it as directed towards the people, who certainly as individuals can protest against such atrocities.
Have you seen the latest video of a US marine killing a 8 week old puppy? This isn't the first incident were they're killing animals, apparently there's websites dedicated to marines who kill animals and people.
