I saw this in a theater sometime in the 1950s, as a young child. I have thought about it from time to time, not knowing it's name. Finally, tonight I did an internet search, and believe this is the film I saw. I remember the spitball part. At the time I remember being saddened by the passage of time represented by the film.
I enjoyed it as a young boy, and now do as an old man. My mother taught in a one-room school house in Iowa.
