  • Great video. Love your guilt trip about the CB radio. W3ATB

  • I don't see what the shame is in a licensed ham operator having a CB and operating on it. I just recently passed my test for technician amateur license. I still plan to run a CB. It still has it's place on the highways and such. But I will also run my ham radio as well.

  • @meangreen69Nova Well lets get some History straight Ham Radio was before CB not the other way around.

  • @Rareed63 Yes....when did I ever say CB radio existed before ham?

  • Why do you have to make excuses about having a CB radio. I bet most of you Ham guys started on the CB radio. Although not as professional and high tech like a Ham radio. But It is still a communication radio and can be used in emergencies. Its the project thats important. Good job.

  • Just remember all the Hams that talk Crap about talking on the CB used to be on the CB themselfs and now they are to good to get on the CB..

  • Thank God, somebody who actually appreceates a clean professional installation

  • You spent a minute and a half justifying why you have a CB to the HAM community.. Do you even hear yourself? That is pretty pathetic that you have to worry about "them" turning their backs on you because of that lowly attitude some give 11 meter operators...

    but I digress

  • great CB antenna, I have one on my 1998 F150 and get around 7 miles transmit distance (yeah, nothing compared to a HAM but I'm still happy talking to my buddies around my home, I recently built a mobile mast antenna for the CB and am picking up guys running standard 4watt out from over 50 miles away. transmitting distance is still about 7 miles though. everything in your truck looks real good too! I can attest to having distractions, CB, PA, lights here and there, subwoofer...

  • what a duck plucker ...

  • Dude, nice truck! With your homebrew CB setup, what kinda range have you been able to manage from it? And is your Cobra operating at factory settings or did you have it peeked and tuned? Thanks!

  • do u have a earth ground. and do u u have a 12 volt ground to your power supply

  • You bet it looks like a "factory Instal "---------nice work.

Observation----------when it rains-I bet your home brew system "suffers "?

The moisture on the leaves on your trees-kinder----absorbs and reflects radio signals?

I love your Power Supply-it looks like a "beauty"

    Steve.

  • Could I mount a CB antenna in a tree? I would be using the tree as the "tower" or the thing that elevates the antenna. Would this be possible or would that not work?

  • i started with cb helped me through the technical part of the ticket still chat to mates on there sometimes not up their arses like some amateurs Nick uk

  • I am an extra class ham, and there is NOTHING to be ashamed of about CB's. DO not let that stigma and ego of the sick hams sway the fact that not everyone is interested in getting a ham licence and CB offers a valuable tool in communication with those people. CB is also very entertaining and very usable while traveling, much more usable for road conditions and such than 2Meter. There is nothing to be ashamed of or explain! Great video, I enjoy building antennas.

  • Super Nice IC-208 Installation!

Also, I bet the Firestick will work on 10m with a good tuner.

    Be Good,

    John

  • did you calibrate the swr meter itself?

  • yes

  • i use my cb for the same exact reasons, i am hot rodding a 77 mercury cougar. and putting a hf, 2 meter, cb, and weather radios and antennas in it

  • Good on you cb is where i started

i Still ragchew on cb when there is nothing on ham bands :D

10 and 11 meters are my favorite bands when they open up from when the sporatic E opens :P

  • nice setup

  • the mic on the home CB

  • the fence will boost transmit and receive, nice setup, what is that mic?

  • Don't apologize for operating CB's. I still like to operateCB's from time to time That is where I really got my start in radio. I enjoy operating all kinds of radios whenever possible. 73 de KB5WQW

  • fuck you

  • why didnt you just run the home style diapole antenna it works great and gets out good to nothing more then a coax cable spit 102" inches each way it will out perform that antenna you got

  • Don't be ashamed to use your CB, I'm a Ham and I love the 11 meter band, Have lots of fun with it and make many long distance Contacts. we pretty much all started on the CB and I think the attitude that you to good to use a CB after your licensed shared by most hams is Ridiculous! CB/Ham radio are both Lots of fun!

  • I'm with yu! I don't know why so many hams are ashamed of operating on CB. That is where I got my start in radio & I still like it from time to time. I enjoy all kind of radio toys & equipment! 73 de KB5WQW

  • where did you get your PA bro!?

  • i want to set up a CB in my car some day but i dont get how to get my antenna wire to my CB in the car how would i do that?

  • You would have to run it through a window or door, or drill a hole

    KJ4HPV

  • Usually vehicles have pre-drilled holes in the firewall (the metal separating the engine compartment from the cab) look in your engine compartment and near your pedals. Sometimes they are covered with rubber plugs. If you don't have one you can drill a hole, just check the area beforehand.

  • I was wondering if you could give me some advice. Im setting up a home made CB antenna using a 104' piece of pipe. And four wire radials. The plans call for glass insulators for the radials. Im using insulated wire so could it be ok to just tie rope without the glass insulators? Also how can i tune it? Its just a pipe so im not very sure.

Sorry im kind of a noob. Although ive messed with radios since a kid. XD

    Anyway thanks and take care!

  • Hams need to get a grip.. In all honestly, 90% of all Hams talk on CB radios too, it's just the feel like they are better, so pretend like to they use them.. More hams originated from CB radios than any other.

  • dont be ashamed of cb. cb is what got me into ham radio and like you, most of my friends have cb's. i also found that cb side banders (found on ch 38 lsb) react to a dx opening quicker than some hams on 10 meters. but anyways great job with the qth and the mobile antennas!

  • Great video . I'm like you I enjoy it all Ham ,Cb, Shortwave , and even listening to the scanner . Keep up the good work .

  • You know you have to recalibrate the meter when you check swr??? And the reason its high on 1 is that the radials need to be longer, or the antenna is too short.

  • I know my way around a SWR meter. I didn't re-calibrate it on camera because the swr was nearly the same after re-calibration. If this was for real and not just a internet video I would have made certain that my reading was as accurate as possible. I didn't want this antenna to be perfect, I am on HAM radio most of the time and rarely use CB.

  • I started out as a ham at age 12. Later on, when in my twenties, I got into CB for a while in addition to ham radio. I made a lot of friends on CB and found a channel where there was no foul language and plenty of nice conversation. There was a nightly SSB net on channel 39 that was great as well.

Unfortunately, that's hard to find these days. Some of the ham HF bands are getting quite bad in spots like 14.275.

Be a decent person when you have a microphone in your hand and leave it at that.

  • That's exactly right, some people just need some diazepam (lmao, j/k) Nice vid btw. I try to stay on echolink (and to Kevin, I'm trying to get the repeater node functional again on echolink, it'll be under KI4VXK-R)

  • hey, that is cool that you been to panitsville i am about 80 miles from there. i can hit the repeater there from time to time. If you do any 80 meters i run 3.842 most of the time. take care 73's from kj4aqv

  • hey, don't let that guy pick on you. you are a great ham operator and them cbers are like that. i like your cb antenna, i never could get that low of swr on a moble on a pole. I am glad it worked for you. when i was a cber before i was a ham i ran a antron a-99 base 40feet up on a mast and talked lots of skip and alover the place. i still use it for 10 meters it works great with my tuner. keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. 73's from you friend in kentucky kj4aqv kevin

  • Well you know this is the United States of the Offended! You can't make everyone happy. Some people just get too bent out of shape. I think CBers and Ham operators will always disagree with each other. Everyone just needs to get along. A few years back I went to Paintsville and I see that's near your QTH. Random I know anyways thanks for the comment and support. Maybe we'll run into each other on the air some day.

  • you just showed all the crooks in town where your rig is!!

  • Thankfully, I have security measures to prevent theft.

  • He's going to need a bigger antenna than that to get out on cb. you can just use two 9 foot wire sections and put it up on them trees. You don't even know how to use your swr mtr You make your antenna like your scared of ham opporators and talk like it to lol. If i hear you on the cb, I'm going to drop my 3,000 watt maul on you

  • The antenna works fine for what I need it to do. I use it once a month if that. My hobby is HAM, but I have no bias one way or the other for CB/HAM. I have successfully used the SWR meter many times. It's a very useful tool, so I don't see how you can say I use it incorrectly. It was calibrated off-camera, if that's what you were referring to.

  • relly i do a lot of cb and ham i hav 2 base cb and about 15 mobil cbs plus a 4 meter ham and a 2 meter and pretty much avery thang els not going to mintion it becaus i dont have much time my callsing is K0BBF

  • You talk about us CBers like we are the scum of the Earth or something. What's up with that? The only difference between you "Hams" and us is you got a piece of paper with numbers on it. Can't we just unite and become brothers of the air waves?

  • I don't think CBers are the scum of the earth. I was a CBer long before I even knew what a Ham was, and I am still a CBer today. I don't follow the belief that most hams have about CBers. The only reason I made the comment I did in my video was because I figured I would get talked bad about from the hams for having a CB.

  • I guess i just took that the wrong way. But still I believe that you should do things you want to do not what you think your friends would like you to do. If your friends would stop talking to you on the radio or in life then they are not real friends. That wisdom was passed down from a very wise man I like to call Dad. But anyway the reason I watched that video was to maybe pick up some hints on antenna making. I'm tring to make an 11 meter dipole or simple beam. Can you help?

  • hi m3xli pat here a ussed a cb aerial for 10m and 2 meters, a silver rod 27mhzs one

what a did was took the coil out the bottom of the ant (27mhzs) poprivetted the wire to the ant it works on 2m and 10m a all so make all my own ants here in the uk this is s good vid
