@777jacked Thank you my friend! I don't know that it's amazing, but I had fun playing it :) I used a Jody Jazz DV7* with stock leather lig and Rico Royal #3 (blue box) Reeds. Tenor is a Yanagisawa T-990 (not 991) I bought new in 1998 before the 991 was released. Great horn for every occasion. What's your setup? TTYL!
@KenOgo lol i have a 1925(or 1926) vintage King Alto with Some torn up jazz mouthpiece(cant see name) and a Selmer Soloist tenor. Its brand new.The alto plays like a dream!
@xXcRENzXx Yes, you have good eyes! Yanagisawa T-990u. It was their top pro model, available mid-90s before they came out with the T991. It's been a GREAT horn and often think about trading my Yamaha 62 Alto for a Yana A-991. I love the Yana key layout, just right for my hands.
@KenOgo may i suggest trying the a-992 if you're thinking of trading the yamaha? the bronze body gives the horn a darker, more colorful tone, and when you mix up your mp setup with some rock or jazz setups, the character of the horn is great and really unique. let me know what you decide. :)
@xXcRENzXx Thanks for the tip! I will definitely give that consideration! I have yet to meet anyone with experience with the A-992 so this is very timely information. Since I do play across genres, the extra body and character is something I am always seeking. No matter how fast and high we can play, it's the SOUND that you make that leaves the mark. You obviously subscribe to this ideal as well.
@KenOgo Absolutely! both the a-991 and a-992 are great horns, i just liked the darker tone of the 992 since it gave me more versatility with my sound. i put on a jody jazz hr5 with a java 2.5 for a big fat sound, or my old C* scroll shank with a vandoren blue box 3.5 to get a cleaner sound without sacrificing projection. whatever you choose, though, you can't go wrong with a yani. let me know what you decide on. i'll be looking forward to hearing more solos :)
And i thought our Courtney pine was good but man i would pay to see you play any day but don't know about the flying ;-) just playing with you at the end there mate, yet again 5* all week long for that one man.
Dude, you are SO BLACK!
