Hoped this sketch was available. Looked up 'ding dong' and lo and behold it was. Anyone know the name of the sketch where Carol Cleveland was sitting on a sofa looking adoringly at her 'wino' fiance when her father comes in and asks what his prospective son in law does for living, to which he replies, I clean public lavatories and after six months they'll give me a brush'!
One of my fave Python sketches, along with ''splunge'',''self defence'' and, actually, countless others. I have the first Python album, bought back in the 70s.
@jazcash hah! that's laughable. for your information I know more about old comedy than most people from my generation, who have probably never heard of the likes of Laurel and Hardy and Monty Python.
@jazcash and anyway, monty python WAS controversial in its day. Some of the sketches they made were banned when they first came out. Now who's the one that doesn't know anything of old comedy? :)
And what I said before is true- Laurel and Hardy never did swear.
if i ever become a burgler i'm gonna have to get together with some friends and do this sketch, and as we leave everybody takes one thing, what with all the finger prints it would make it bloody hard for the police to find me
@anotherenglishman He says "Good evening. My name is Equator, Brian Equator. Like round the middle of the Earth, only with an L." and laughs because it ISN'T spelt with an L.
like the little immigrant at the first part of the movie Stripes, "SON OF BEETCH, SHEET!. I've been looking for this for a long time. Thank you for posting. Had this on my first python album. This is great and I will be 49 in a few weeks now. lol
"So many months in the Soft Toy department... yet never daring...."
Idle throwing the record offstage...
Film Society meeting... favorite haunt of losers lol
Cleveland & Chapman maintaining masterful "straight man" pose throughout
Cleese's "Shut up you silly bitch" delivered with desultory derision.... breathtaking deadpan (and I say this because I've tried to deliver the line about 20 times without cracking up....try this at home!)
I feel for Graham Chapman in this sketch. He's too much of a pushover to take charge of the situation until it's deteriorated beyond his control, then when he finally does speak up, he gets shot.
um...er...well if mr chapman had took charge and thrown out all of the wierdoes and pervs, it wouldn`t have been much of a sketch would it? just a stab in the dark, but are you american?
Definitely among the best skits the MP crew ever performed. Terry Gilliam dressed like a very very stereotypical poof was a bit much, but still fantastic ^.^
does anyone know if the sketch where michael palin is playing the kid who keeps breaking things and saying "sorry mum" and terry gilliam is eating beans on the couch, and terry jones is talking about his, ahem, bowel movements is on youtube?
THIS is my favorite Monty Python sketch of all time ...and that is saying something! Hey everyone...we all know about...the Silly Walk...and the Parrot Sketch ...but its time to check out..."Custom Sketch" or "The Smuggler" it may be called...oh...try out the "Cheese Shop" as well!
Connie Booth, who played Iris in the first version of Lumberjack, and did it in Now For Something Completely Different, was John Cleese's first wife, but the woman in this sketch is not her, it's Carol Cleveland, who played Iris when Eric did Lumberjack live
