NDP are doing amazing in the polls and just might have a chance, so those not wanting to chose the lesser of 2 evils realize you DO have another choice.. I'm confident if people went to the polls and really voted based on who they wanted and not trying to vote against harper or against ignatieff we might just have an amazing result, and a historical one..
Ignatieff said a Liberal government would only allow Canadian troops to be deployed on missions that had the blessing of the United Nations.
“The Canadian army must never be used outside the country without the authorization of the UN,” Ignatieff told his audience in French. What? We're giving Russia and China a veto over the use of Canadian troops? This is the most bizarre understanding of national sovereignty I've ever heard from a Canadian politician.
PATHOLOGICAL "WE AMERICANS" LIEING IS THE ISSUE, more than his 34 years away. That kind of repititious publicly stated lies (hundreds of times) is a classic symptom of psychopathy. Either he is 100% delusional or he thinks the public are complete idiots, take your pick.
You conservatives crack me up. Conservatism is like a religion. All you have to do is you blindly believe, ignore facts, demonize the opposition and repeat simple phrases over and over. Harper couldn't get a majority against Dion and the polls show where he is. And Harper tried to form the same coalition in 2004. but blind conservatives just ignore this and attack Iggy instead. He will be your PM soon. I cant wait
Isn't it a bit hypocritical to label all Conservatives in this manner? Most people I know who voted Conservative in the last election came from a variety of backgrounds and actually voted Liberal in the past. Most were simply upset with internal division within the Liberal party. They were not blind to the faults of the Conservatves; they just weighed their options. If you believe Conservative voters sit back and fling insults, you are wrong. In fact, you have just done what you claim to object.
If the liberals did neocon style attack ads you would all be whining your heads off. There is so much dirt on Harper. Just look up his own quotes. He'd be done in one commercial.
Dumbass! The Lieberals have the worst record for using dishonest attack ads. The Tory ads are factual and use Little Count Iggy's own words against him. The Liberal ads remember "Solders in our cities, in Canada???" are just pure fabrications. I always get a laugh out of Lie-berals complaining about negative ads. I guess they thought they were just fine when they were using them!
You neocons are so funny. All you do is name call and choose which facts to ignore. lol The truth is that Harper is scared and since he can't actually govern, he has to do attack ads. They say more about him than it does about Iggy. Look up Harper's racist quotes. Maybe the libs should use those against him. Wait. Nevermind. Conservatism=hypocrisy. You would just ignore those too. Make sure you call me another name k.
Racist quotes! That's too funny. How about Iggy's right hand man - he accused Chinese Canadians of eating cat and serving it to unsuspecting Canadians in their restaurants! That's racist! What made CatScam even worse was that little count Iggy didn't fire the clown and took more than a week to issue a weak kneed call for him to apologize! The Lie-berals already tried to demonize Harper with all sorts of out of context quotes and they failed. Iggy is being skewered by himself.
3/ Dion's stint as leader/ sacrificial goat for the Liberal Party allowed the next person in line
( Ignatieff or Rae at that point in time ) a bit of distance from Chretien and Martin's final years in office. In other words, people hadn't had time to forget just how awful the Liberal Party was. The Liberals ran Dion as their leader knowing full well that he didn't stand a chance as leader. They were saving Iggy for a time when the party would be on more solid ground
the option suggesting that a third of the Liberal Party would vote Liberal no matter who their leader was.
Iggy is basically saying that one third
- that's 33% - of his party's members are mindless lemmings. It's not a matter of the best person winning under those circumstances it's a matter of their leader winning regardless of what he/she may or may not have to offer.
33% of the Liberals voted for Dion and 66% saw him for the joke that he was.
The 1/3 comment was in regards to Liberals always getting 30% of the vote in elections. Thus Canadians would be the ones who are the mindless lemmings, not just the members. As for the number of liberals who are mindless lemmings, probably 100%. Same would go for 100% of conservatives. Any person who subscribes themselves to one political party is a mindless lemming in my book.
I am in complete agreement with you in regards to any person who subscribes themselves to one
party being a mindless lemming. I have always and will always declare myself non-partisan.
The 30% of the vote that the Liberals have gotten in elections does not reflect 30% of Canadian voters voting for the Liberals. You have to take into account the members of other political parties who vote strategically against their own party. They vote Liberal to prevent the Conservatives from winning.
Agreed, my apologies. 30% of people who vote is what I should have said. Remember only a quarter or so of Canadians actually vote. Secondly, people vote for different reasons. Some people vote for a PM, some people vote for a Part, some people vote for their local MP.
My last statement was an extension of my previous statement. You're right about people voting for a variety of different reasons : voting for PM, voting for a Party's entire platform, voting for a party's stand on a hot button issue ( ie - capital punishment, abortion, environment, etc. ), voting for their local MP.
Sorry, I don't see anything wrong with what he said, its an undeniable fact, since confederation the Liberals have always had at least 30% of the vote. Go look it up!
He says that ' a third of this country WANTS to vote for the Liberal Party IF you give it half a decent reason to do so '.
It's a round about way of saying that a third of the country WANTS to vote for the Liberal Party BUT it won't because it ISN'T being given a decent reason to do so.
(or)
It's a direct shot at the sheepish mentality of Liberal voters who will vote Liberal regardless of who their leader is. They'd vote Daffy Duck for P.M.
Maybe I misunderstood your comment, but the 2nd option seems to contradict the 1st. If 1/3 Canadians want to vote for the Libs given a decent reason, then why did so many Canadians abandon the party with Dion as the leader? Undeniably there are a group of people who will vote Lib no matter what. But every party has that group, its the base. Clearly there's more to the Party than that group of sheep, otherwise Dion would've won. As an aside, I love how every pro Iggy comment has a thumbs down.
2/ Dion would have been a joke on the World Stage as Canada's leader. English speaking Canadians across the country couldn't understand his english. English speaking Canadians would have ended up needing english subtitles whenever he spoke english on televised press conferences.
Dion was to the Liberals what Kim Campbell was to the Conservatives: a person who took the job as leader of their party because nobody else wanted it at the time.
1) The coalition occurred AFTER the election. Mass abandonment of the Libs occurred before this.2) Dion was and is well respected internationally in academic circles. He was a scholar at the Brookings Institute, chaired the UN Climate Change summit in Mtl. As for his english, Chretien wasn't a whole lot better and he did fine. 3) Dion became leader by mistake at the 06 convention. Rae and Iggy both ran against him, so their votes were split. That being said, Dion was a terrible leader, no doubt.
You're right that the coalition/ attempted coup took place after the election. The Liberals didn't like the way the election turned out so they joined forces with the NDP and the Bloc to reverse their misfortune.
Mass abandonment of the Libs started during the Martin years following on the heels of Chretien's shameful last years in office.
Chretien was reduced to playing with his (golf) balls in front of an inquiry.
Chretien speaks english a lot better than Dion. Laughable but understandable.
What a pathetic use of editing that didn't even succeed in making Ignatieff look bad. Nice try neocon. Maybe the Harperites should try actually governing instead of just attacking the opposition. It worked with Dion. It won't work with Iggy
It's working in much the same way that the Conservative attack on the coalition worked.
All the Consevatives had to do was point out that the Liberals would go so far as to climb in bed with the Bloc ( a political party whose agenda is to seperate from Canada with no concern whatsoever for the damage that they might do to everyone else in the country ) to
Get your facts straight! Harper tried to form the EXACT coalition in Sept of '04 when Martin was PM. Iggy didn't actually want the coaltion and stopped it from happening. If he wanted to, he would already be PM in this coalition. Harper was the self-serving opportunist who would have been in bed with the NDP and Bloc.Get your head out of your hypocritical conservative ass and look at the facts before you make a fool out of yourself on here. Thanx for the usual intelligent neocon name calling.
The FACT deluded3092 is that 'O4 was 'then' as in not NOW. The way it was or the way it may have been are not the way it is or the way it will be in the Canadian public's eyes. Iggy is the leader of a party that sought to form a coalition with the Bloc in very recent memory. In other words, it still stings.Saying that Harper tried to do the same thing doesn't remove the fact that the Liberal tried to do the same thing.
Whatever wrong went before doesn't give them permission to do wrong now.
Get your priorities straight deluded and you'll have a clearer view about what's actually going on in Canadian politics.A person doesn't have to be a Conservative to find fault with Iggy and the Liberal Party.I'm non partisan. I pointed out that people such as yourself ( Liberal Party sheep whose only perspective is the flock of Liberal Party sheep around them) are decreasing in number. Your 'power'base is diminishing regardless of however you may 'Bah' otherwise.
