  • Their tag was "KFI: More Stimulating Talk Radio" lol. Yeah, stimulating like jab in the eye. Back in the day it was KLOS and KPFK for me. Pirate Radio was cool for a moment. Can't remember the call letters.

  • ... I never listened to KFI640 AM in all the years I grew up in SoCal. I always tuned to KHJ or KEZY. KTNQ was for cholos... not for me. I hate gangsta thugs & their 'ilk*. Now I listen to KFI 640 AM EVERY DAY for John & Ken's insights... Tim Conway Jr. & Aron Bender for laughs & George Noory for "WTF?". Conservative Talk rules. BTW I'm NOT WHITE OR REPUBLICAN... so get over *it*. So 'Nuff Sed.

  • I'ts sad that they threw out the good music on this station which was replaced by mean evil conservative talk show as we know it today.

  • Its an inevitable revolution. It's sad, but it had to happen, some say for the best, while others say for the worst.

  • KFI was a great AM station when you only had an AM radio in your car

  • That's Eric Chase doing the voice over. he was the afternoon jock for a few years in the mid to late 70's. He's been Paul Cristy in Houston since leaving KFI.

  • I *hate* talk radio. Shame this station became one.

  • I was in L.A. from September 27 to October 5 of that year for my 21st birthday.

  • KFI and KHJ, back in the day.

  • MAN I remember when KFI radio was music station they turn to talk in 1980s

  • So there was a time when it wasn't KKKFI?

    It's good to know.

  • I lived way up in Crescent City, on the coast near the Oregon border, from '83 to '87, and KFI kept me company the whole time! Some on-air personalities were M.G. Kelly, Tom O'Hare, Nancy Plum, Steve LeBeau... Loman and Barkley in the morning, but the signal always faded just before the sun would come up. I could only listen at night, from that far away.

  • me too in Amarillo, Tx

  • Very cool... i still have quite a few cassette tapes I recorded during that time.... only problem is I was so far away that the signal would fade in and out, particularly depending on the weather, living on the coast.

  • man can I talk with you soon? (806) 433-2181, and I don't care MusicRadio 64 KFI was the best Top 40 station ever!!

  • What was the song at the very end after the announcer finishes talking?

  • With a Little Luck - Wings

  • Yeah, song definitely sounded like a Paul McCartney effort. Thanks.

  • Thing is - I like the sound of music on am radio.

I don't want a glorious concert in my car.

    AM works for me.

    AM is magic.

FM lost its magic a long time ago.

  • The thing is that music sounds better on FM than AM. When you are listening to a talk show, it is not that important that it be so clear. That is why there are a lot of AM talk radio stations and FM music stations today.

  • Man, when they were playing music. I don't remember that. I remember the Mighty 690.

  • Slight correction on your discription. KFI is in Los Angeles, CA. Pretty much everything else is true. It's currently a Clear Channel talk radio filled with Rush wanna-be.

  • The funny thing is, I *knew* KFI was in LA, since I had already put that in the video title, but there was an inconsistency with the description I hadn't yet noticed! Thanks.

  • Being that KFI is a 50,000 watt station, I can easily see anybody would mistake it's location.

  • to an idiot I suppose any talk show that isn't spewing far left drivel might sound like a " Rush Wanna be " but that doesn't make it so. And another thing, KFI was talk long before CC ever even existed.

  • KFI was so cool back then. You could drive from San Diego to Fresno and listen the entire way. Playing decent top-40, too.

  • Classic!
