Comercial diving in BC years ago as young insensitive 20 year olds we tried dispat hing an octopus brought up by sticking a knife in it's head not knowing suffocating them was the only way.
To our amazement the poor thing would grab handle and pull the knife out time after time.
I think the focus here is that people finally realise that animals are smart creatures, with character and emotions, and we should treat them with respect.
They are incredibly smart and handy. I've heard aquarium workers report that if not properly locked, octopuses will at night clime out of their enclosure, get in neighboring enclosures, eat fish there, and then climb back home :)
If she has pushed the top off before, which would be the hardest part of escaping, then she could do it again, and climb her way out...because climbing out would be the easy part.
