I think they kinda lost the plot here. For a stealth fighter the thing is undeniably huge and thus will naturally have a bigger radar return than a smaller plane even after stealthing tech.

China can mass produce 1000's of these things faster and cheaper than the USA can make it's fighters. The reality is, the J-20 doesn't have to be as good as the raptor. With squadrons of new Chinese planes, I doubt the US would risk sending a raptor or a JSF into Chinese airspace.
@baobubs Definitely. The F22 program has also been cancelled and the remaining fleet of F22s suck. For every 2 hours of flight they need around 30 hours of maintenance. The F22 is also know for rusting easily and has terrible stealth capabilities. As for the JSF, I also heard it suck as it can't climb, turn, and fight (ie a useless plane). One analyst was quoted saying the mock sim between JSF v. Chinese/Russian planes was like "clubbing baby seals". Overall JSF/F22 = bad quality and expensive.
@Nelmistro Rusting......that's funny seeing as how the major components of the F-22 are Titanium......which according to simple science.....doesn't rust. maintenance hours are always heavy when a new airframe enters service. The F22 fullfilled it's complete order. It wasn't cancelled. There was only ever going to be 185 of them. One crashed in training......leaving 184. One flight of F-22's can wipe out most of the Chinese air force.

If titanium was all there was to stealth capabilities, then every nation with a good defense budget would have stealth fighters long time ago. To copy something because a design has physical advantages, lets say stealth, is perfectly normal and happens all the time. Otherwise everyone would have to start with "the wheel" and have a long way to go!. Companies like Masterlock, Caterpillar, Apple, etc have been dropping their business in China and have been Insourcing jobs back to the U.S. Not to mention China's economic growth has been shrinking drastically due to their steller inflation rate. @surfgodx Hmm.. Perhaps you are right, although right now our cyberstructure seems to be very fragile. Both from moles/leaks as well as holes in security. Also our fighter jets are open for sale in other countries and although we might not allow the sale to China/Russia etc it is very hard to keep the specs and engineering diagrams top secret when the final product is being showcased around the world.

China can mass produce 1000's of these things faster and cheaper than the USA can make it's fighters. The reality is, the J-20 doesn't have to be as good as the raptor. With squadrons of new Chinese planes, I doubt the US would risk sending a raptor or a JSF into Chinese airspace.

@baobubs Definitely. The F22 program has also been cancelled and the remaining fleet of F22s suck. For every 2 hours of flight they need around 30 hours of maintenance. The F22 is also know for rusting easily and has terrible stealth capabilities. As for the JSF, I also heard it suck as it can't climb, turn, and fight (ie a useless plane). One analyst was quoted saying the mock sim between JSF v. Chinese/Russian planes was like "clubbing baby seals". Overall JSF/F22 = bad quality and expensive.

The F22 fullfilled it's complete order. It wasn't cancelled. There was only ever going to be 185 of them. One crashed in training......leaving 184. One flight of F-22's can wipe out most of the Chinese air force.

I'm rather talking about the stealth/radar absorbing material on the F22. To copy something because a design has physical advantages, lets say stealth, is perfectly normal and happens all the time. Otherwise everyone would have to start with "the wheel" and have a long way to go!. It is the other copying that is actually the outragous stuff, copying for aesthetics and to convince people its something its not, like copying a BMW, an iPhone etc.

The Chinese have an extensive espionage "R&D" program. They steal and reverse engineer Western technology wherever and however they can get their hands on it. Whether that means violating international copy right law, hacking into military/gov/corporate computer networks, opening their doors to Western corporate expertise, and then shutting it as soon as they have the knowledge they wanted, or out and out having an agent walk out the door with a piece of tech, they'll do it.
