@aussierachl Yes, as does mine. As noted in the description, and several of the comments, these were deleted from the BROADCAST on PBS, not from the DVD. I thought I would post them for those people who only watched it on TV, because I thought it would encourage them to by the DVD.
@aussierachl I don't think stupid covers it. It was both insane and idiotic. ;) I can only assume that they wanted to shorten it for time, but there were plenty of other scenes that would have been better to cut if they *had* to do that. PBS can have things run as long as they want, however, so it really, really makes no sense.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PUTTING THESE UP!!!! This adaptation of Persuasion is my absolute favorite, and probably my top 3 favorite movies ever, so anything associated with it is well received :) Thanks so much again!
i don't have the dvd but watched this movie numerous times...youtube movie (thnx youtube!) has all of these scenes. Interesting to know it's not on the actual DVD.
@bestcrossroad I think you misread my description. These were on the DVD, they just weren't broadcast originally on PBS. They cut it for time, though no one seems to know why that was necessary. Anyway, U.S. viewers didn't get to see them unless they purchased the DVD, which is why I put them up here. :)
@miaka0210 alas where are our Anne Elliots? we live in vulgar times and the vulgarity affects us all --and the pathology between the sexes is heart breaking--I have taught this beautiful book many times--almost always to women --men need to read it!! BTW I think the 1995 version more beautiful And the book! To think she was dying as she wrote it!
I wish they had kept more to show the depth of their previous relationship (the letters) and more to show his feelings for her. It comes across as more one-sided in the movie.
Oh my god HOW could they miss out that look at 2.49?? When Captain Wentworth is watching Anne, and she turns her head and he quickly looks away. It is one of my favourite moments of the entire adaptation.
AND the conversations between Wentworth and Harville!! These are SO important scenes. I can't believe this wonderful adaptation was butchered so much, it is unbelievable. Thank god I got to see it first time round in the UK, in its compete state.
Nope. Not the only one: her face, her words, her presence. Someone should push her out of a moving carriage. And I think Anne should do it, for all the years she had to live without Frederick. Poor girl.
Mary is so funny, waiting for Anne to take care of herself lying sooooo sick, haha. And in clip 7, the part where Wentworth says Anne is perfection itself!!!!! OMG
Because they don't know what they're doing. I mean, come now! A highlighted-blond Captain Wentworth, with stylized gelled hair! A perfectly horrid-looking Anne - though at least that's original and possibly realisic, she is certainly nothing close to 'handsome', especially with those curls -- and the filming! A hand-held camera jiggling and joggling and bouncing about like a 12 year old! With that sort of filming, one is forced to remember it is all staged!
I remembered all of these scenes from the movie I watched on pbs...Oh wait, I think I watched it on you tube. Man, if those scenes weren't in the pbs version, what a bummer!
They weren't on PBS...I remember thinking it was odd that they didn't show them in the carriage returning to Uppercross after Louisa's accident. Sure enough, that was one of the scenes that was left out.
PBS deleted the scenes because they only have 90 alloted for the Masterpiece Theatre timeslot. According to them, the U.K. producers decided which scenes to cut. (However, the deleted scenes are included on the U.S. dvd from what other people have said.)
Yeah, that's why I did it. And even though I heard it was only 7 minutes they left out, clearly it was more like 12 when you add up the extra little bits that I couldn't put here with YouTube's time/space limit.
okay seriously this movie needs these scenes. it's too short.

They had to make cuts to fit the time slot, but I agree...wish they could have kept these. Thx for sharing.

"deleted scenes"???? I'd rather call it the "collection of key moments cut out with no reason"!!!
