  • Thanks for posting. I can't believe that he escaped my attention until now !

  • Flabbergasted. Antonio C Braga - Brasil

  • Flabbergaasted

  • поет Муслим очень даже неплохо

  • Wow what an excellent voice and performance !!!! What a damn pity that banal pointless politics has robbed the world of the chance of hearing such a great talent!!! Thank God for you Tube!!

  • A timeless and meaningful composition which has transcended every national boundary!

  • Thank you for this record! I often had the chance and honour to be invited to the concerts by Muslim Magamaev and to listen to him, who used to be not only a great singer, a very nice person, but also a friend to me.

  • Muslim Magomaev was graduated as opera singer, but he preferred pop songs vs classical repertoire. Once he said that his dream was to get some lessons from Frank Sinatra.

Some of Magomaev's fans call him "Russian Elvis" (but he wasn't native russian, he was azerbaijanian)

  • Super! Bravo!

  • Wow! I was looking up the lyrics to this song, came across YOuTube videos and watched a bunch of renditions. This fellow and this orchestra present the best one I viewed. I would appreciate knowing in which country and with which orchestra this was performed. Thanks.... John

  • Moscow, Russia. Fall of 70's beginning of 80's.

  • Thanks. I did a little searching around on the internet and found that he had recently passed away... at far too young an age. He certainly was a great one, and I wish I had had a chance to see one of his live performances. But I have enjoyed what there is on the internet. John - Carson City, NV, USA

  • It was perfomed of course in the Great Country the USSR with its greatest culture, greatest talants in all fields of klife. This is Muslim Magomaev singing. Born in Azerbaijan, lived in Russia, belonged to the Great Country.

  • Brilliant!!! Bravo!!!

  • en que año fue este concierto? interesante la similitud entre los cantos de rio como el ol`man river y el de los del Volga, ambos temas tristes y nobles.

  • Jesus christ, small skinny white man singing this song!

  • Number one: Never use the name of God in vain.

Number two: Music doesn't know any colour.

Number three: This person in his time has got more international awards than your age.

  • Calm down, man, he's just making a joke.

  • Jesus is The Christian God's son >_>

Don't assume everyone is Christian and don't assume every Christian believes in the Holy Trinity and don't get angry at people for saying his name. Makes you look arrogant.

All I meant was every time I've heard this song sung ever it's been a massive fat black guy who has a voice like he's been smoking cigars since he was 5

Seeing a skinny white guy just looked weird >_>

  • try to find Sinatra's version of this song.

by the way, Paul Robeson's version is classic one, BUT Muslim Magomaev sung it even with more expression, he was a great singer...

  • Sinatra's stuff always gets taken off youtube and his CD's are freakishly overpriced

  • Great...thanks for uploading

  • Memory Eternal, Muslim Magometovich. We shall miss you.

    r. b. Vostorgina

  • love it!! and now I know why the USSR love paul!!! HE WAS A GOOD MAN!!!

  • His name is Muslim Magomaev. He was one of the best Soviet Union`s singer and cult figure on USSR popular stage.

  • Came here expecting a good laugh. Instead I was blown away by a wonderful performance.

Great artistry CAN cross the cultural divide. BRAVO!

  • Thanks for warm words, Ilalfisto, unfortunately due to Soviet prohibitions lots of singers from former USSR didn't have a chance to be opened by world audience.

But Muslim has a good background, he studied in Italy, in famous La Scala Theatre. U can visit his homepage (english & Russian versions) if you wish.

    Rgds,

    R.

  • He laughs best who laughs last!..

After a couple of DECADES of MORE THAN SUCCESSFULLY perfoming in VARIOUS Genres, the Singer knows exactly what to stick to.

I assume that ignorance is NOT a fault, however, cocksureness in jugdements IS, in my opinion.

My Greatest THANKS to the Great Singer for his Great performance!

  • what a voice. Up there with Paul Robeson

  • Did he cried before singing the last line? The music is so emotional - Great performer!

  • "Great stuff. But, pardon my ignorance, where was this concert held and who is the singer?"

Muslim Magomaev, a great Soviet baritone. Sang opera in 60ss-70ss along with musicals and pop music. The concert was held in 1988, in Moscow.

  • A little slow but a great voice. Who is he?

  • Great stuff. But, pardon my ignorance, where was this concert held and who is the singer?

  • Brilliant!!! Thank you!!!
