  • "a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, Where the great would not be constrained by the small!"

  • I remember being amazed by the intro water graphics and it still looks kinda nice to this day!

  • You normally hear that "Altitude, Pull Up" voice only in the cockpit....

  • @Thoralmir

Omg I never thought about it that way...

It even better hints at what went on in that plane :D

  • made my mom watch this, she has a whole new respect for the games I play.

  • The only flaw to this intro is the robotic squid

  • this game sucks i played 3 hours of it and its so borring

  • @xmacain just like ur mom then..

  • @xmacain Since you are the type of person who likes katy perry, comments 'first', and enjoys Shane Dawson, im not surprised you find it boring.

  • One of the best games i've ever played. Even bought the special edition.

  • This game really showed the power of the Xbox 360, and it didn't just come out either.

  • The game play and sound design were as good as the graphics.

  • Now this was this game!!!

  • i have tryed to play it 5 times on five differtet disc but it wont work i speend 20 minetes waiting

    someone explain whats wrong

  • @blackopskiller1996 You bought five copies of the same game?

  • @FelixJim42 no i replaced it and i got it from a freind and gamefly and its the ONLY GAME that dosent work on my ps3

  • awesome game im playing it right now.

  • i only have 13 years old and this game teach me so many things like politics, moral and other things,it's better that the school

  • it's hard to really place why, I despise first person shooters, but this.. this is something special. this is my 2nd favorite game of all time (1st has no game, I don't want to define myself that much)..... so this might be my favorite game of all time, at least in the pantheon next to ocarina of time, shadow of the colossus, and the Metal Gear Solid series

  • This game is better than the second cause of the fact that it just looks nicer, and personally I like playing as a human character rather than a robot. I think the true sequel to Bioshock is Bioshock Infinite. But it's not really a sequel since the whole storyline is going to be different eh...

  • @CorporalActivist You don't play as a "robot" on BioShock 2. You play as an Alpha Series which is a type of Big Daddy. Bid Daddies are humans underneath the suit. Plus, Bioshock Infinte is nothing to do with the original BioShock

  • They told me: "Speedy, Bioshock was an awesome game. It was made to change the world."

You know what? They were right.

  • They told me Son...your special.....Know what...They were VERY RIGHT!!!!

  • mr bubbles

  • I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!

  • amazing intro, screw crysis' graphics this was 10 times more awesome

  • WHAT?! His cherry popped! I knew it he is secretly a woman!

  • Check out the present at 0.23 it reads "Would you kindly..."

  • god thats creepy

  • One of the best intros ive ever seen

  • aye one minute im crashing the next im killing some zombie thingys

  • @techgeek97 they are not zombies :) they are just insane people who got deformed because of the Plasmids they took

  • Would you kindly give a thumbs up :)

  • "They told me; Son, your a retard. You wouldnt know if you hijacked and crashed a major airliner over the atlantic ocean because some con artist asked you kindly."

    You know wat

    They were right!

  • Actual plane crashed hijacked off of comeres? island

  • Ryan's speech is brilliant.

    Instead I chose something different...

    I chose the impossible...

    I chose... Rapture.

  • thumbs up if this game is in your personal list of "best games i ever played"

  • @RuShI1000908 this IS the best game i ever played

  • Question: In Bioshock 2 you see how little sisters see Rapture, and in their eyes Angels are just asleep. How come this little sister knows you have to be dead to become an angel?

  • Either way, this game freaked me out when I first played.

  • justin74923 so you've read the book too XD

  • Andrew Ryans problem is that he created a society in which he thought he would be the most successful. Then he betrayed those ideals rather than accept that Frank Fontaine was better at it than he was.

  • the guy talking at the beginning of the video is jack

  • Video game filosophy... you suck

  • Is it weird that i find this absolutely NOT hard to masturbate to ?

  • This ain't rock n' roll, this is genocide.

  • lol a half life refrence any one notice it "now would you kindley find a crowbar or something" it lese souns like one to me.

  • best intro of any game, ever

  • @ThePappas7 the only video game intro that could pose as a threat is the intro to the original Half-life

  • Fuckkk I love this game, Still cant believe its been out for 4 years and still looks good !!!

  • lol, ok, you do that

  • pause at 6:00 !?!?!?!?!?!? a chicken rooster thing killed him?

  • "No," says the man in Moscow," In Soviet Russia, Brow-Sweat owns you!."

  • Is a man not entitled to the sweat on his brow?

"No," says the man in Washington," It belongs to the politicians."

"No," says the man in The Vatican," It belongs to the Pope."

"No," says the man in Moscow," It belongs to the the Party."

  • @TheKatamariguy i rejected those ideas, instead, i chose rapture

  • Jack's special. He was born to do great things.

  • Would you kindly?

  • Why isn't Rapture real? :(

  • @onceone96 Becouse greenpeace would lock to sea deep by chains And wont let build something there.

  • @onceone96 its those dam communists again...

  • @onceone96 it might be , you just have to be rich to get in .

  • @filrut and finally, Ryan built a city where people could achieve super human capacity. The splicers weren't a problem. The plyer and Vic Fontaine are the problem. Daddies protect the sisters, sisters recycle Adam. Eventually the splicers will reform or die and a strong society is left,. But the player comes and ruins that.

  • @LoklarYsera NO the splicers are the problem when you use Adam for too long and too extensively you become a splicer you go crazy for Adam and go for the little girls. and anyways what civilization would there be everyone's dead and the city would still be falling apart and it would just stay there not touch by man flooded completely and utterly .

  • @filrut bioshock isn't a critic of anarchism or libertarianism. I'm both and loved the games. Notice the little sister leaves you alone and scares off the splicers. And if you've finished the game, Ryan never raises an arm against you, and it was Atlas' manipulation that caused death in rapture.

  • @LoklarYsera The little sister doesn't scare off the splicers, the big daddy does. And how is it not a criticism? It shows what would happen in a truly free market society, a collapse. Sure you have the people who think like Ryan, but at the end of the day there are more people like Atlas then like Ryan and that is why a truly Randian society would never work.

  • Great game. Love the lighting.

libertarianism is nothing more than anarchism dressed up in a three piece suite.

  • Bioshock: shows the dangers of atheistic anarchy

Bioshock 2: shows the dangers of communism

Bioshock infinite: shows the dangers of extreme nationalism.

  • @MetaKnight964

Actually the first game is more about Communism - anarchy and atheism are strongly linked with the Communist ideology.

    ***SPOILER ALERT***

Also remember that Fontaine manipulated the masses by offering them a better life than the system of free competition offered by Ryan, but it was merely a ruse to create a full state monopoly & aggrandize his own power. Is that not what the Bolsheviks did? They offered a better way of life, yet created the worst & longest tyranny in history.

  • @DJFG85 His city collapsed into a superpowered hellhole full of criminals and selfcentred jerks. I think Ryan's got some work to do first.

  • I'll never forget my first step into Rapture. What an experience ! :)

  • No one ever wondered how he mangaged to build a Megacity in a lifetime? Really, it's... the biggest plothole in history. Most cities take various generations to reach that level of development xD

  • @Kronosfall91 with money

  • @Kronosfall91 I think the argument would be that given complete freedom man can do the impossible

  • @Kronosfall91 So the thing that you find unrealistic about Rapture is it's size, not the fact that it's underwater? Interesting.

  • @Kronosfall91 in Bioshock 2 they explained how the city was build... and now i will: it was rainy and bad at see. Ryan woku and and walkud upfront to he's boat. He said: STOP! here is where we are going to build. and so they let down an big dome with the city in it down under water. meanwhile they discover a VERRY big cliff under the city and the drug addam. Then they filled the dome with water and removed the dome.

Repture was buld and Ryan was happy.

    The end

  • @pongboy1100 Your description is a work of art on par with Half Life: Full Life Consequences.

  • @flaetsbnort and then the big daddy shott hes wapon! lol

  • jhonny cuda been a good partner to jack but got killed

  • Why is every video game loud as hell now? And they usually have at least one screaming character. Jesus, people.

  • What exactly are splicers and I don't have bioshock

  • @Jairman2110 People who gene splice waaaaayy too much.

  • @Jairman2110 Splicers are people who got addicted to ADAM and modified themselves to the point of madness... basically xD

  • Best intro EVAR!

  • This is the perfect day to play this game.

  • Why is it called Bioshock? I know Bio means life and shock can be a suprise but, why Bioshock?

  • @TehMinecrafter1337 so in one of what your saying... a lifeshock. Crashing from a place and therefor finding an underwater city isn't something you do every day...

  • @DJFG85

"are you gay". Sorry. I didn't realize you were a teenager, I really shouldn't have wasted my breath. By the way, how can a society with endless competition between individuals and corporations with unlimited power possibly avoid insurrection and civil war? Frankly Ann Rand's ideology in practice would be utter anarchy.

  • @htcfagg hence the plotline of bioshock

  • @htcfagg

Ultimately, good moral foundations are the key. Healthy competition is fine and should be strongly encouraged, unfettered by interfering and parasitic state bureaucrats who often corrupt and skew such natural enterprises, akin to what happens under Communist/Socialist states.

But, as Andrew Ryan and Rapture soon discovered, rampant capitalism and exploitational competition without moral foundations and notions of fair play lead to anarchy.

  • @htcfagg

Heya, I dont want to burst your bubble but its actually Ayn Rand-not Ann Rand

  • @htcfagg fucking hell dude, its just a game

  • @htcfagg SO true !!!

  • @htcfagg i hope you do not solely on bioshock basis for understanding the objectivism of Ayn Rand.

  • she hated anarchy, and believed that government should exist to maintain an objective order, in order to avoid what happened in rapture (in one of the conference said that anarchy would fall into the hands of the first rascal who use force), the rapture concept is based on objectivism and libertarianism but most of all was a total of anarcho-capitalism practiced, unlike the minimarquismo usually support both libertarianism and objectivism.

  • @htcfagg it's easier to spout nonsense than actually think about the implications, no? pathetic.

  • @htcfagg Precisely. The problem with both Rand and Andrew Ryan (And don't tell me that name is coincidental!) is that they both assume too much about human nature. They think that greed and competition can be controlled if you simply let loose people and their imaginations to do what they want. Chaos, mass murder, and anarchy will always be the result.

  • @htcfagg

Rapture is kind of a mix between communism and capitalism. It's not the worst society ever made, Andrew Ryan just had some really bad luck, just like Lodewijck XVI. I think that Rapture is certainly better than communism and also better than capitalism. And if he was a teenager, why would you call him gay. That's really immature, and before you ask I'm a 29 year old black, straight male.

  • By the way: Have you ever noticed that even when Rapture had the highest of technologies and medical science available, they still coudln't find out the dangers of smoking?

  • Andrew Ryan always reminded of Charles Foster Kane, or maybe just Orson Welles in general.

  • would you kindly..

  • I dont like Fallout 3

  • If whoevr played Andrew Ryan wasnt that person then the game would be a lot worse cause his voice is epic

  • I think this clip is reference from the airplane that was lost in 1948 on the vermuda triangle,

  • Andrew Ryan is a great man, he'd made a better president than Obama.

  • @DJFG85

My god man, please be a troll... The whole point of Bioshock was to present the structural flaws of the ideas of Ann Rand, not to glorify them!

  • @htcfagg "My god man, please be a troll", are you gay? And no, that wasn't the point. In an attempt to form a plot they had to create a conflict. In this case a criminal named Fontaine seeking to overthrow the establishment. So "Ayn" (check your spelling) Rand does in fact have the right outlook on how a society and government should run. You never even read any of her works. How would you know?

  • @DJFG85 Tell that to the Splicers xD

  • @DJFG85 You obviously haven't read any of Ayn Rand's work. You should, then you would realize libertarianism is completely lunatic and that a video game character would not make a better president than Obama.

  • @turokcalde You should search Milton Friendman (nobel prize winner in economics) and watch some of his videos. Than come back and say libertarianism doens't work.

  • @williamb90 Friedman isn't an objectivist.

  • @DJFG85 haha we're already in shit as it is.

  • @DJFG85 HA!

  • @DJFG85 Andrew Ryan is insane.

  • you'd think that making this into a movie wouldn't be that difficult... but then again they're still in pre-production

  • Andrew Ryan asks you a simple question. Are you a man, or a slave?

  • Its not scary , it is just creepy and the graphics also are crazy!

  • I've played some of this game. It looks like something out of my worst nightmares, and I freaking love it! :D

  • this game gives me goosebumps

  • @sau04 me too, but not the game itself... its more the nostalgic feeling of playing this game a few years ago at night listenint that bioshock music and that creepy enviroment i don't now its weird XD

  • 3 people didn't choose rapture

  • That plasmid injection looked painfull.

  • This game is so much better than Bioshock 2.

  • meanwhile back at Irrantional Games: MAN BOB BIOSHOCK 1 SHURR DID GREAT.-hellz ye dawg lets make a sequel! -GREAT I DEA DOOD. UHH. BUT ISNT THIS THE END OF THE STORYLINE? -who gives a shit, lets pull something out of our asses and make the player be a big daddy. -WELL ALRIGHTY THEN

  • @mrhalholhel1900 not to be mean but bioshock 2 was made by 2k games. irrational games is making bioshock infinite, so blame 2k

  • como pueden haber 3 fuking personas que no les guste esta video

  • they should make a movie or something about this game(storyline) its epic man

  • 5:04, thumbs up if the first thing you'd do when arriving to Rapture is visit Cohen's collection of fine art.

  • The best ingame sound ever in my opinion!

  • Why you keep moving the mouse back and forth? You think you can see more that way?

  • graphics are amazing!

  • "Hmm... Some strange red liquid in a vial... Could possibly be something to do with these deformed humans?... Eh, fuck it lets get hiiiiiigggghhhh...."

  • WOAH, WOAH, WOAH. Was Jack smoking on an AIRPLANE?

  • @HinataChanLover83 The 1960's were a very different time...

  • i want to ask you a question..where is the film projector?

  • wow I just noticed the note on the present says "would you kindly"

  • Who here loves the airplane scene and the plasmid scene?

  • I desperately want to get this game. But my mom says that I'm too young to be playing this(true, true)and that this will ruin my soul, like, attract bad spirits.(she actually said that)I love this intro, I could only hope to be able to copy the violins and pray for mad violin skills. But I saw Jack's face, and I cannot believe how such an adorable guy could have such a deep and raspy voice.Maybe it was the cigarette...

  • @NeverNetherland let me tell you this. its a scarry game fore underage, my little bro diddent wanna game it after he met the 1st big daddy (hes 14) but try som other less scarry games 1st and build your way up :D

btw you gonna love this game!

  • I can't remember if this is the video where I commented that "At one point in my life, I HAVE to play this game," but I'm in the process of playing it for the first time RIGHT NOW!

  • @mebbwebb no it is actually a revolver. In a split second while confronting Andrew ryan, you have a flashback of the opened present. **MAJOR SPOILERS**

The note says would you kindly not open until... And then it says coordinates on the earth. The coordinates are where rapture is. We learn in the game that jack can be controlled by the words would you kindly. The gun is to hijack the plane with, the plane was supposed to go down at rapture. Andrew Ryan wanted jack to go back to rapture.

  • drill thats wut i meant

  • but i actulllay like the second one better

  • i want to be a big daddy i mean ur a guy in a heavy duty suit with a spiral saw type thing and some pretty awesome weapons in the other hand wuts not to love

  • @knipan64re the drug addicts guid.

  • i forgot what i was going to say but ill post it when i remember

no government, no law, no censorship. freedom to do whatever you like.

  • something is wrong with andrew's left hand....i mean jack

  • something is wrong with andrew's left hand

  • does anybody wonder about the present he had

  • @YourSuperman360 There's a flashback to the package during Andrew Ryan's monologue at the end. I'm sure you can find a stillshot online.

  • @YourSuperman360 its a bomb

  • Son...you were born to be a dickhead. You know what... They were right.

  • these games are fucking scary, i dont plan on playing them anytime soon

  • @ImWeirdAndILikeIt i completed it when i was 12. com on

  • the man's voice in the beginning sounds like the narrator for "how i met your mother"

  • this game is awesome! i can't play it alone though because some parts freak me out, but the game rocks! =D

  • "Look Mr. Bubbles, it's and angel! I can see light coming from his belly. Wait a minute...he's still breathing. It's alright, I know he'll be an angel soon..."

Those little sisters are freakin' creepy sometimes...I really can't wait until I get the chance to play this!

  • SOMEONE

WHY DID THIS MACHINE THING TAKE ALL MY GUNS AWAY!!

    please respond

  • please do not compare fallout with bioshock, both games have different gaming genre

  • The beginning bit when your in the transporter is the only time I felt safe during the entire game.

  • @Redat23 LOL, sounds fun

  • @ivansegos If you like paranoia and a tingling feeling in your stomach like your just about to be smacked in the face by a spicer.

  • so did that flaming log go through jack or something cause what happened there?

  • Fantastic opening for a bloody brilliant game. Best single-player game of this generation.

  • They told him, "Son, you're special, you were born to do great things."
