  • Freddie and The Dreamer - "We don't care...and it shows."

  • He looks like Eugene Levy on SCTV

  • I read about this song on Freddie's wiki, that he was copying the way the Beatles had done this song in the Cavern. Now that I hear it, I understand. John would play harmonica, and Freddie is definitely singing in a Paul-like tone. Either way, it's great to hear this version of the song recorded, no matter who sung it!

  • Bonkers

  • Such an awesome song...

  • i saw these in concert in the early 60,s it brings back good memories

  • Hey I like goofball stuff but this is ridiculous

  • that step the dreamers do @0:42 might have had some interesting results had the guitars been plugged in.

  • their songs were ok but they were just a little too goofy for me. must be a british thing.

  • @cgboomer British thing? The Americans took them to number 1! They never did that in the UK, had a number 2, a couple of 3's and a number 5 but never topped our charts. They were never meant to be taken seriously, just enjoy them for what they are, a bit of fun. If you want real British talent from that era then apart from the obvious Beatles and Stones, check out Kinks, Manfred Mann, Hollies, Small Faces, Searchers, Animals, etc.

  • Remembered - and always will be . RIP Freddie .

  • Definitely different. They were true to themselves in ther stage moves, and wanted to squeeze some fun out of it too. Good show blokes !!

  • remember the short shorts would love to see the video of that again or even here the song again

  • redneck accent was cool then, but listening to it now is well wierd and even creepy,,,, sounds like goofy

  • 1963 in England. Reputedly Lester Bangs favourite British Invasion band

  • Then like now, there is a lot of snobbery in music and for some reason, some musicians are always considered uncool, and get disparaging comments. Freddy and the Dreamers are a case in point. Great songs, great musicians, but always looked down upon. I guess if you add a little comedy to your routine you lose kudos, but it doesn't detract from the talent.

  • @DavinaRamshaw point well made, but i suppose the facts speak for themselves, they sold millions of records and had quite a few big hits in the uk and the usa

  • Comment removed

  • :15 Todd Rundgren got that move in the beginning from Freddie.

  • I lived through the beat boom, and my heart always sank whenever Freddie and the Dreamers came on TV or the radio.

  • This group ruined a great r and b song. This is pure crap, and the original version by James Ray didnt get any airplay in the UK

  • @gusandspud i suppose its becuase no-one really like the original version, you can route for the underdog but at the end of the day its the masses who buy records are the ones who deem what is good and what is not.

case in point is this song made no.3 during the summer of 1963 one of the most competitive times in the history of music.

you had to sell around 100,000 copies to get into the top 10 in 1963/64.

  • @26highstreet I agree with you completely. If you get a chance, have a listen to Timi Yuro doing this song. She really gave a terrific version of it

  • they make a nice show ...

  • would have been awrite wioot the bloody dumb dancin

  • Freddie and the Dreamers had an unwitting role to play in rock history. In an interview, Paul McCartney said that the Freddie and the Dreamers's version of "If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody" was a Beatles arrangement. The Beatles played it one night in Manchester. Next thing, Freddie and Co had copied it, and were performing this arrangement themselves. Because of this incident, The Beatles decided to concentrate on their own compositions.

  • you have to LOVE freddie <3

  • Great voice ,but Freddie is such a nerd.

  • He was the coolest man in rock. Can you think of anyone who cared less about how he looked to other people?

  • Freddie quite obviously didn't give a toss. That makes him cool in anyones' book, though he was probably heavily influenced by Buddy Holly

  • Great song! Wild performance.

  • From Wikipedia:

And the rest is History.
