My version goes "take my guns from the ground, I need to use them once more....". I had to go to a foreign country to be allowed to own a British Lee-Enfield.
this is an awsome version of a great clasic but he was not best rock singer of all time richie sambora and clapton and slash are the 3 best guitarists ever jon bon jovi or axel rose or angus are the 3 best rock singers ever
Please check out my cover for this song, its in my channel, i made it to audition to a music program scholarship! Pleaseeee look at it! it means a lot! PLEASEEEEEE
In the late 70ies U.K. Dire Straits were widely regarded as just another "Shadows"-Clone-Band. This judgement still holds true today, as Knopfler offers nothing new from a guitaristic viewpoint, although his playing is "nice" sometimes. So sorry.
I love this song--from Dylan's greatest album IMO, the soundtrack of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid--and I love Mark Knopfler, one of the greatest guitar players and song writers who ever lived. Mark's style is almost instantly recognizable,
But I loved GNR's version as well. It is just a different way to play a great song.
@MrMigue143 Mark is one of the best-known and most respected guitarists in the world, you can't say he doesn't have enough recognition. And Slash isn't overrated in any way. It's okay if you say you prefer Marks playing, but saying that he's better is only a result of your own preferences and makes you look kinda arrogant too... Obviously you judge Mark only cause he's better from YOUR point of view... which doesn't mean anything.
But yes, Knopfler is undoubtably one of the greatest.
It's dumb. Both players if playing together would both have the utmost respect for each other. And have nothing but true genuine admiration for who and what they do. Especially after all these years of being "rock stars" . What's the fight? Both are great at what they do! Right on!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
WHAT THA FUCK IS THIS CRAP... the best is with axl rose not this weirdo redneck that has a piece of paper in his mouth when he sings, cant even sing S
The interplay is pure magic. Dylan's gravel with Mark taking the sweet line and what guitar virtuosity. I have seen both of these guys a bunch of times, but this is sublime.
Why would Axel have a lick to do with these two????? Have to admit I am a closet Axel fan - However as a gal I have a huge boner for Knoffler and Dylan... together would be the big musical "O" for me.....................woooooohooooo
@madmaxxerr1 Actually this song is part of the "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" album, which contains all Bob Dylan's songs from the movie including this one ;)
Slash is talented. I think he's trashy, but he has talent, it's just gross sounding in my opinion. MK is more tasteful by all means. Probably MK is a little more talented too.
@telecasterman081095 Nothing gross sounding about the 59 Les Paul Gibson; Slash's guitar solo eclipses both lyrics and the vocals for expression and feeling.
I'm a huge fan of GnR, but I also like Knopfler (and Clapton)! Which version of the song is the best? I think both the GnR-version, this version as the original Bob Dylan version are awsome. That's because it's just a great song, and it took a genious to write it! Good job, Bob!
@MrMigue143 Is someone asked me to pick between Slash and MK, I would certainly pick Mark, but that doesn't mean "fuck slash". Why do people have to be haters all the time! And by the way, Slash is pretty great too.
@trix1945 Slash is a good guitarist, but bands like GnR were a dime a dozen. There is nothing special about Axle Rose. Dylan is a genius and Knopfler is one of the greatest guitarists.
@anjdog2003 I don't agree with you. I think Axl has a very unique voice and he's a great showman. He isn't my favorite guy, but I understand why he is succesful.
@anjdog2003 Oh come on. I agree that the GnR version sucks compared to this, but at least Axl has a good an unique voice. Not the most talented person ever, but a good singer none the less.
@anjdog2003 cada um tem sua opinião mas o axl tem sim talento sua banda e suas musicas são a prova disso. Considero o Bob Dylan como grande artista otimas musicas com certeza.
@trishm12345 I've seen Dylan a million times, but no more. Saw him with Paul Simon a few yrs ago. Dylan looked like he was HATING what he was doing - and the audience. Then Simon came on stage - happy, smiling, bouncing like his "Red Rubber Ball" - clearly loving what he was doing - and loving the audience. And Dylan's band - his music - wasn't music, to boot - just NASTY SLOPPY NOISE. His shows didn't used to be like this. Boo hoo. I'll stick with his great CDs from now on.
@acartee Saw him last year. Smiled, danced, thanked his friends in the crowd, talked about God saving him from substance abuse. Bob's always been a restless soul. On a bad day, he doesn't hide it. He hates being fake more than anything I think. At this last concert, he seemed more comfortable in his own skin than I've ever seen him. Made me happy for him.
I saw him for the first time yesterday, personally, I thought he was great. The arrangements were brilliant, and his performence (for a 70 year old) was pretty enthusiatic. I'm pretty disappointed the way people seem to be bashing him here, his voice may not be like it was in the 70s but the music was brilliant and his songs have as much life and meaning as ever. It was a great night.
@36clashfan77 You youngbloods do remember he severely crushed his skull in 40 some odd years ago. That kind of damage HAS to add up over the years.Maybe we ought to be grateful for his contributions past and let it go...
Saw them at Bournemouth last month. Knopfler was excellent, as for Bob, been going to gigs since '79, seen over 100 artists, first time i have ever walked out on a performance, very sad to see a legend reduced to that..........
I've seen Bob Dylan twice and been impressed both times. I'm pretty damaged so it's hard to impress me. Saw Bob as a solo act once and am glad I wasn't sitting up front b/c Bob chews tobacco and spits. Otherwise, he's a legend and well worth seeing in concert. Second time I saw Bob, Willie Nelson and family were touring with him. The show was awesome. Sorry, I got lost in my nostalgia. What were you complaining about?
@trishm12345 I'm sorry you feel that way. That's just his style and has been for decades. He will generally finish with a "Thankyou everybody" then walks off stage. I've seen him several time over the years and will continue as long as he continues to perform.
@trishm12345 Same here. I saw them last week, Mark gave an amazing perfomance as usual, but Bob...when the concert ended i left with a little bit of sadness..you can see he's trying his best but he just cant make it anymore..but still i'm glad i got to see him live for once in my life..
@trishm12345 haha, I went to see them, he was in the class of his 70-90 concerts, Knopfler - amazing, Dylan - really really amazing, Dylan said hello at the beginning and at the end, he said the classic Dylan bye, "Thank you friiiends" and interduced everyone in the band.. one of the best Dylan concerts ever!
what a great support act!!! Mark Knopfler before Bob was just two concerts in one evening!! Super it was...In Rotterdam the spirit was High...thankyou men...and I love Bob Dylan....forever and a day...
@trishm12345 Your right! I've travelled over 3 hours to see Dylan and Knopfler. Mark and band were great but Dylan.... I think he has to hold glory to himself. It would be better if he'd stopped his gigs. For himself, but also for his audience.
@trishm12345 i understand your disappointment, but try to understand how he seems to feel these days. i dont claim to know him, but just watch any interview with him. he clearly doesn't want to be there. i've heard him say, on more than one occasion, "i dont know the man that wrote those songs anymore." imagine how hard that must be to play those songs over again and not feel what he knows they mean.
@sikantwixxsted well if he doesn't want to be there, he shouldn't be there, perhaps it's time for him to give up and retire gracefully. No one is making him perform, not like he needs the money is it?
@trishm12345 I agree that he shouldn't be there. Maybe this is all he knows how to do? I read recently that he's had over 100 concert dates every year for several years, and this is still currently the case. I wonder if this is all he knows how to do. Plenty of people go into retirement, and then end up with a part time job or something to fill their time because they find themselves bored. I think that he's lost that heightened sense of being, but he doesn't know what else to do. Ya know?
@trishm12345 That's exactly what it was like when I saw him last Monday, was disappointing to say the least tbh, very glad Knopfler was there otherwise I'd have felt completely ripped off.
gona see them in 3 weeks... going mainly for Knopfler (as a DireStraits fan).. good to hear he didnt dissapoint, iv heard many being dissapointed with Dylan lately.
Might be wrong about this, but I can recognize Dylan's voice pretty well when I hear it, and this doesn't sound like Dylan... I don't know if Knopfler is playing on this version, but it sounds like a cover rather than a live Dylan performance
a shame about the hello, there is a lot of young "true" new gifted artists out there if you really search, but you must admit this is pure and from the heart that no one can even begin to duplicate. :)
@Waiting7up Hmmmm have you ever heard Slash play guitar? Maybe, just maybe, he's one of the very few best guitarists of all time, but also likes playing in unusual places? Just cus he's famous doesn't mean he can't play in small, unusual places for the regular person anymore.
@Waiting7up have you ever heard any of his solos, ever? Even his underrated solos, like in Paradise City! Everyone knows that song, but hardly anyone can do that craziness towards the end of the song! Plus another thing, even if you could somehow manage to play it (which remember, writing is MUCH harder than just copying), it's near impossible to put the soul into it! Like in November Rain, Don't Cry, Knockin On Heaven's Door, and even his work in songs like Patience, have soooo much feeling!
yes i did, until 2 years ago i listened to guns and slash, but since 2 years i understood that slash plays with the same notes, according to me (i repeat) according to me he's the most overrated guitarist ever
@Waiting7up This is really good,BUT,Check out the Garcia,Weir Kahn and Joan Baez version from 12/87.BEST EVER,MUSICAL NIRVANA.Swear on the purple kush bra!
@Waiting7up There are only 12 different notes in western music, so everyone is inevitably playing the same notes over and over and over again, so can't be a reason why someone is not a great player.
great great wow WOW SO NICE

Many important warnings from our Lord about the Antichrist, the Two Witnesses, Revelation 12, the false rapture/alien invasion.
Deluded preachers and televangelists will promote the invasion as the return of Jesus, many will want to escape as war and chaos break out.
The warnings about Obama are very sobering and shocking!
False prophets in the churches! Counterfeit miracles!

luka61985 3 months ago
@trishm12345 haha, I went to see them, he was in the class of his 70-90 concerts, Knopfler - amazing, Dylan - really really amazing, Dylan said hello at the beginning and at the end, he said the classic Dylan bye, "Thank you friiiends" and interduced everyone in the band.. one of the best Dylan concerts ever!

@trishm12345 WAS IT VOLUME OVER TALENT....NO DISRESPECT TO MR. KNOPFLER BUT IS THAT HOW IT WAS?
yeboj 3 months ago
@yeboj it was volume over talent in the case of Bob Dylan, whereas Knopfler was brilliant.

@trishm12345 Your right! I've travelled over 3 hours to see Dylan and Knopfler. Mark and band were great but Dylan.... I think he has to hold glory to himself. It would be better if he'd stopped his gigs. For himself, but also for his audience.
DDGUITARS 4 months ago
@trishm12345 i understand your disappointment, but try to understand how he seems to feel these days. i dont claim to know him, but just watch any interview with him. he clearly doesn't want to be there. i've heard him say, on more than one occasion, "i dont know the man that wrote those songs anymore." imagine how hard that must be to play those songs over again and not feel what he knows they mean.
sikantwixxsted 4 months ago
@sikantwixxsted well if he doesn't want to be there, he shouldn't be there, perhaps it's time for him to give up and retire gracefully. No one is making him perform, not like he needs the money is it?
trishm12345 4 months ago
@trishm12345 I agree that he shouldn't be there. Maybe this is all he knows how to do? I read recently that he's had over 100 concert dates every year for several years, and this is still currently the case. I wonder if this is all he knows how to do. Plenty of people go into retirement, and then end up with a part time job or something to fill their time because they find themselves bored. I think that he's lost that heightened sense of being, but he doesn't know what else to do. Ya know?

I saw Dylan a few weeks ago he was Awesome !!! As were his band ;-)

@trishm12345 That's exactly what it was like when I saw him last Monday, was disappointing to say the least tbh, very glad Knopfler was there otherwise I'd have felt completely ripped off.

Might be wrong about this, but I can recognize Dylan's voice pretty well when I hear it, and this doesn't sound like Dylan... I don't know if Knopfler is playing on this version, but it sounds like a cover rather than a live Dylan performance
mrlennybruce 4 months ago
@mrlennybruce You're right!
But read the description. It says: Ted Christopher - vocals and Mark Knopfler: guitar

a shame about the hello, there is a lot of young "true" new gifted artists out there if you really search, but you must admit this is pure and from the heart that no one can even begin to duplicate. :)

@Waiting7up Hmmmm have you ever heard Slash play guitar? Maybe, just maybe, he's one of the very few best guitarists of all time, but also likes playing in unusual places? Just cus he's famous doesn't mean he can't play in small, unusual places for the regular person anymore.
AwesomeDoesExist1432 4 months ago
@AwesomeDoesExist1432
slash is a puppet because he ''appears'' instead of ''play'', and I think that slash is THE MOST OVERRATED GUITARIST EVER!
Waiting7up 4 months ago
@Waiting7up have you ever heard any of his solos, ever? Even his underrated solos, like in Paradise City! Everyone knows that song, but hardly anyone can do that craziness towards the end of the song! Plus another thing, even if you could somehow manage to play it (which remember, writing is MUCH harder than just copying), it's near impossible to put the soul into it! Like in November Rain, Don't Cry, Knockin On Heaven's Door, and even his work in songs like Patience, have soooo much feeling!
AwesomeDoesExist1432 4 months ago
@AwesomeDoesExist1432
yes i did, until 2 years ago i listened to guns and slash, but since 2 years i understood that slash plays with the same notes, according to me (i repeat) according to me he's the most overrated guitarist ever

@Waiting7up Okay well if it's your opinion, then I respect it. Everyone has their own, so that is fine :)

@Waiting7up There are only 12 different notes in western music, so everyone is inevitably playing the same notes over and over and over again, so can't be a reason why someone is not a great player.
