  • I remember back in the 80's the Radio Times listed episode 12 as being called The Drugs of Humanity and my dad got really angry about it, ahh the 80's.

  • It's funny how they used the same font on this show and on "The Jeffersons". The world of Embassy Television-produced series is a small one, isn't it?

  • This show takes me back, I used to watch it as a kid as they also showed the series in the UK to. Always enjoyed the cat and mouse games they played. I thought the characters and the script were good, so I agree with others here that say it was a shame the show seemed to come to a sudden end.

  • @delboy723 Yes I remember as well watching this show when I was 12 years old. I wondered what happened to Jason Bateman and why he disappeared from Silver Spoons and this is why! They gave him his own show to have. I also remembered watching this on the old USA Network back in the late 80's and early 90's in reruns. Check it out on the usaupallnight website. Just google it! I am adding these shows to the usaupallnight website because it was when programming was great on the old USA Network!

  • @RobBase086 Thanks, i'll check that website out !

  • @delboy723 You are welcome! I am just trying to get the word out there about the website because Rhonda Shear is bring back USA UP ALL NIGHT within the next few months on Yahoo TV and ROKU as well just to let you know about it.

  • I think with this show, Spencer, and Square Pegs, TV was trying to cash in on the teen movie craze (Fast Times. . ., Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, etc.) that was dominating at the time--they just couldn't get anything to stick. Square Pegs faired the best at two seasons, and Spencer and It's Your Move just disappeared after what seemed like only a few shows. It's too bad these witty, intelligent shows couldn't make it, when later drivel like Saved By the Bell goes on forever.

  • @radioclash81 I also loved this show, and I'm pretty sure the reason it was canned so soon was due to demographics..network execs needed their target audience to be not only kids but adults, who were the ones with the money to spend as a result of the ads. But, the show only had the youth fanbase--they should've included more adult-themed plot lines, or they should've moved the show to Sat. mornings, like they did with Saved By The Bell...this show prob would've been as successful as SBTB.

  • @shegotyagood I caught this when it originally aired on NBC back in 1984. I thought this was a great show when I watched it at 12 years old. See if they had given it time this show could have hit the adult themes. I mean you have a MILF mother of 2 on the show and I remember her from My Tutor. Man she was hot! I am adding this show to my website that is dedicated to usaupallnight and the old programming USA Network had prior to NBC buying out USA Network and forever altering the programming!

  • @radioclash81 I know what you mean about that and loved watching this show when I was 12 years old! I thought this was a great show to watch and like someone mentioned if they put this on a Saturday morning line up it would have worked I think. I loved watching this in reruns on USA Network prior to NBC buying it out and forever altering the programming. I also loved USA UP ALL NIGHT! That was a great program to watch that USA Network had back in the day.

  • Loved this show, never understood why it 'disappeared.' Had such a crush on Caren Kaye, and Jason Bateman was so genius, no wonder jealous Ricky Schroeder got him kicked off Silver Spoons.

  • I love it that his parents are in the background while all this is going on and don't say anything.

  • I loved this show! The best ones never lasted!

  • I always remember this show, coming on at 8:30 central time Saturday nights after "Double Trouble", "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Gimme a Break", then followed by "Hunter". I still remember being shocked around mid-season when I discovered the show wasn't on and replaced by "Spencer". It's a shame a lot of people don't seem as familiar with NBC's Saturday night line-up of fall 1984. Even that season of "Saturday Night Live" is overlooked and forgotten.

  • River!

  • I thought Jason Bateman was so hot when he was young. I was born in '73, so we were contemporaries. I had a crush on him, for sure.

  • This was a very interesting show back in the day. It was quite different from the bubblegum/perfect family shows that were airing in the early 1980's. If you really examine the show, it's all about trickery, embezzlement, extortion, cheating and all around deception. I'm surprised the show lasted as long as it did. I don't think one of the Big 4 networks could air a show like this today. The right wing conservatives in the USA would have a cow. Batemate does some good acting in this series.

  • so funny to hear his voice unbroken

  • River's hair looks great here!

  • Was River only in this one episode?

  • I adore River Phoenix!

    He was too cute!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this show! It was actually pretty funny, but the networks canned it after 1 or maybe 2 seasons. But now we can watch through the magic of YOUTUBE.

  • I've watched every episode now (thank you VERY much uwec95), but I never noticed if they mention why the mom is single. Did anyone catch that? Meaning, what happened to Matthew's father?

  • I am sure someone knows why they cancelled this show. But I was 12 too and loved it. Taped them all too. It might be a strethc but the humor is a slight precursor to Married with Children. Brother and sister ripping on each other.

  • @TheJerryBermuda. The same producers here are the same producers of Married With Children as well as the TV production both made by Embassy TV.

  • i loved this show, somewhere there is a vhs tape full of episodes in my garage ! thanks for the uploads

  • that Specal kid went on to be a leader in the tea party

  • never seen this show, he reminds me of zach morris.

  • Ha. This is classic. Bateman's timing and delivery were perfect even back then. I totally forgot about this show.

  • this is awesome. it needs to be put out on dvd. i would buy the shit out of it...

  • This was a spin-off from the Ricky Shroder/Silver Spoons program. In this show Jason plays "Matthew" but in Silver Spoons he was the same devious character named Derrick.

I was sad to see this only lasted a season or less

  • Simply one of the best 80s shows EVER!!!!!!!!

    I'm Your Crazy 80s guy!

    Check out my videos.

Will Eli Block That Soccer Kick? Or Not?

  • always had a crush on Jason Bateman when he was on Silver Spoons. still cute to this day!

  • Didn't David Garrison appear on Married With Children?

  • @zshaw7549 yes, he played Steve

  • @zshaw7549 He was a reguler for 72 episodes almost every episode till he hleft in the 4th Season 1987 to 1990

  • Jason Bateman is awesome!!!

  • LONG LIVE THE LEAGUE

  • only a few know about these... had me laughin all night.. wish it wouldve made it.

    da relic

  • what year is this?

  • @collegegal79 it was 1984

  • I have always loved Jason Bateman. He is hilarious.

  • Is that Mr Twinkacetti from Perfect Strangers? I hope this is out on dvd soon, I used to watch it back in the 80s. It was great until the original scriptwriters must have been shot for the last few.

Bateman's like Ferris Bueller's evil cousin.

  • these episodes are cut ihave the real ones and some parts are not there

  • This show was ahead of it's time. Matt acts a little too mature for his age. Kind of an Alex P. Keaton influenced character.

  • the sis is nina of young and the restless, right?

  • @1mullenix Yep, that's Nina Chancellor.

  • @japstoryeditor,thank u 4 the verification.

  • Bateman has great comic timing. He made this show great. Too bad it didn't last too long. I remember they had a couple books based on this show.

  • lol. forgot Steve from married with children was on this show!

  • 3:13 that kid Brian isn't that River Phoenix? sounds just like him.

  • Yes it is.

  • This show was great until parents groups started threatening to boycott sponsors. The show jumped the shark when NBC caved in to the pressure and made an episode where Matt was caught by his mother. The show was never the same and audiences eventually tuned out.

  • Wow--I had no idea. I was only 12 when this show was on the air, it was my favorite show and I was so sad when it was canceled! Nasty parent groups!!!!

  • I was a freshman in high school when this show first aired. The dorks watched that crybaby Schroeder in "Silver Spoons" but the cool kids watched Bateman in "It's Your Move. This show was years ahead of its time and NBC wasn't ready for programming like this. This show blew the doors off the regular NBC kiddie fare like "Silver Spoons", "Different Strokes", and "Facts of Life". A show about a deceitful two faced con artist who happened to be my age was perfect TV at that time.

  • This is the show that should have made Bateman a Mega Star but due to parents writng letters and scared sponsors they canned it.

It would have been perfect for FOX a few years later, the writers of actually went on to write for Married with Children.

Matt deceived his mother, conned adults and kids and laughed about it but still often the joke was on him when Norman turned the tables but the show never had moral lessons just revenge by one side or the other, not good for 80s TV.

  • @wolverineland . Thank god for Fox TV when they were starting, they took chances on Arsenio, Married with Children, and others.

  • I remember watching this when USA Network showed reruns during the day.

  • This was my favorite show at the time, and I've always missed it...thanks for posting!

  • thanks for posting, loved this show when i was a kid. good to watch it again

  • This show taught me how to be a smart ass...haha

  • The people who created this show, would later create Married With Children.

  • buying this show on dvd off the net was one of the best things i've ever bought! What a show!:)

  • Eli is rockin' that Olivia Newton-John sweatshirt. The only thing missing is a Latoya Jackson sweatband--TOTALLY!

  • I liked this show alot. too bad it got cancelled. But yet ricky shroeder "silver Spoons" lasted awhile.

  • I was 15 when this originally aired so Matthew Burton was my idol and needless to say this was one of my favorite shows I have fond memories of. Too bad this show only lasted one season. Jason Bateman was too talented for Silver Spoons and upstaged that whiny little tool, Ricky Schroeder. They gave him the perfect show, then pulled the rug out from under him because a few dipshit parents that complained because they were worthless failures at raising kids. Bring this out on Dvd.

  • Little River Phoenix is on teh couch next to Eli in the first scene.

  • Man, I've thought of this show off and on over the years and am so glad to see it posted here. Thanks! Loved this show.

  • The manager is Pumbaa!

  • Loved this show when I was young. Great to be able to watch the episodes again.

  • wow. it's your move. this was my shizznit back in 84.

  • Not to brag or anything, but I have this show out on DVD, as well as The Hogan Family and in the process of getting ALL the episodes of Silver Spoons. I LOVE you JASON KENT BATEMAN!!!!! ;D

  • I LOVE 80'S JASON BATEMAN TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have 80's pictures of him up in my room!!!!! He's soooooooooooo cute and he's a GREAT friend to me!!!!!! :D

  • jason acts very similarly to how he acts today

  • thats what I think too!lol I see him on this and then on Arrested Development and I can still see the kid in him:)

  • I'M IN LOVE WITH JASON BATEMAN

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. I've already watched all the episodes, but I'm watching them again!

  • Eli-LOL

  • Great show. I used to catch reruns of the show on USA Network but I havent seen it in 15-20 years. Thank you Uwec!

  • Genius, Jason always had comic genius. An old sole.

  • @unnim When it came to silver spoons and this I whole heartedly agree. I can't believe they cut this off so fast and Valerie lasted!!!! ICK!!!! Who makes the stupid decisions? All my friends and I loved this show!!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING IT UWEC95!!!!!!! I've wanted to find it so long!!!!!!!!

  • This show did not belong on NBC, especially after THE FACTS OF LIFE of all programs (even though they both came from EMBASSY Television)! A nice precursor to MARRIED WITH CHILDREN though - just did not belong on NBC

  • Awesome !!!!!!!! RIVER PHOENIX

  • Eli IS the wall.

  • From the creators of Married with Children...

  • this show rocked! i toatally remembered it! i loved every episode!..broke my heart when it was cancelled!..again, thanks for the postings!..you da' man!..
