  • Fucking awesome playing for all 4 U2 members, great song!!!

  • great drums from larry!!!

  • i saw U2 for the Joshua Tree tour, in Detroit 1987. they sounded so full of energy and hunger and delicate beauty. i'll never forget that concert...

  • Such a better version than the one they played at the Rose Bowl in 2009.

  • those were the days - the voice was at its best eh

  • what a beautiful song <3

  • bono <3

  • this is one of my fav u2 songs.wow

  • those were fine days, awesome record

  • Bono is wearing a scrunchy. That should have been the end of U2 right there.

  • As always loving the piano~

  • Bono's voice is absolutely perfect in this version...and the Edge's guitar riffs are delicious. Beautiful song!

  • I love Bono's voice in this version of the song

  • lindooooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • Edge at his sonic best in this one.

  • What a band, What a song ! The Edge & friends are incredibles....

  • it seems bono has lost his irish accent over the years.

  • Ah, the atmosphere of this album...

  • this is one cool song the guitar really sounded cool at 1:20 -1:35, even the piano was the best. U2 ROCKS!!

  • Comment removed

  • The official music video for this song is visually stunning and very moving. I usually don't enjoy music videos but this is an exception. Juxtaposes ice with fire. I think it is one of the few music videos that actually complements the song.

  • hippodrome of Vincennes Paris June 1986 ...

    live + first Part

    UB 40

    Ths Pogues

irish day in paris ..in was In ...cool ..i remember

  • when they played this at sheffield on 360 tour i had tears in my eyes and cold shivers all over

just a beautiful beautiful song played by the biggest band ever

forget the beatles, stones, queen etc etc(v good bands i agree)

u2 simply reach out and suck you in

  • Was this the tour when Big Country were supporting (Feb '87) was there Hotel Commodore Paris though momories fading a bit now!!

  • One of the songs I always want to remember. Thank you, you too, yeah, thank you. Great music.

  • The Edge simply amazes me.

  • Bono can really make love to the mic in a way that no one else does.

  • This was the highlight of 360, can't believe I would ever see them play this amazing tune.

  • 1980-2011, the biggest band on the planet

  • @mmaxsters sorry u2 is good, but queen is the number 1, no one outstands freddie

  • how does the keyboard sound come in at 2:53, does someone press a button or something? sounds awesome anyway

  • @Artemis458 That is the edge, its called shimmer he send is guitar to another amp that has a pitched reverb, sound like strings.

  • @Artemis458 Its called shimmer. You can buy a reverb unit that can do this very cheaply. The Behringer RV600 is about £40 in UK. There are demonstration videos on youtube.

  • After 30 years of 'absorbing' U2, it finally struck me in May 2010 that this is U2's best song; and that is a huge comment coming from myself. It's like I'm still growing into this song. This song transports you somewhere. Wow. Ironically, the song is on one of U2's weakest albums. Love your work U2. Hasn't been a mega-elite band since U2. Don't be jealous of Bono's position. Ben Bingham

  • @SuperBingo96 no way is it one of their weakest albums. Please re-listen. Best U2 song forever

  • @nicky2neal Hi Nicky, I can tell you are a huge U2 fan so cool. Don't get me wrong i'm not putting the album down but I just think it is one of their weakest even though the album is amazing. In fact the more I think about it, this album was a huge leap forward for the band and weakest shouldn't be used to describe this album. You've changed my mind. Ben

  • How can you NOT like this song? 7 people are deaf

  • @MrThus1234 I really don't know. They must be deaf

  • For me the best Version of a great Song!

  • fo sho/ bad ass/ mothe fau;kes

  • thnx for sharing... ive been looking for live version of this classic song..

  • I was there no huge sets bonos voice amazing seen um twice in France.

Remember leaving through the tunnel listening to 40 happy days..

  • they released this show officially finally the official version has better quality than this bootleg

  • 360 tour was amazing and just as good if not better than popmart zoo tv etc

end of the day u2 are 1 of the greatest bands ever

    long live sir bono

    ARISE !!!!!!!!!!

  • haa bono was defo weight lifting in 87

  • @followthewater Pints of beer maybe. :-)

  • I wish Tom Jones would do a version of this song!

  • thanks trainspotters....

  • Phlanger pedal

  • @desdecks19 no, it's not, I think it's the guitar signal split in two paths, one normal, the other through an octaver then in a reverb + delay then mixed again to the original, you can hear a sort of shimmering harmonic over the guitar part, that's it.

  • @marcello252 the effects on the solo are as follows, he is using an e-bow, running through a delay...the guitar signal is routed by midi to a keyboard... which on signal adds synth notes with delay to the solo which is the dual layered sound you can hear, the synth notes from the keyboard are a octave higher than the ones he is actually playing.

  • @NHBEY39 : I agree that it's an ebow, but it has nothing to do with a keyboard. It's just a fat distortion effect smoothed out and with delay and the octaver sounds are "shimmer" (setting diff. from normal shimmer though) he runs via his rack unit. i do it my self and it sounds exactly like it.

  • I also do it through midi on a keyboard and it sounds exactly the same lol, if you search for the edges gutar tech documentary they show you a full breakdown of the exact setup, if you look closely on the vid in the foreground the keys on the midi board are actually pressing on those notes.

  • 3.01-3.03 to see the keyboard keys triggered

  • yea it's a natural fat overdriven type distortion that's why it sounds so good added with all the stuff you have mentioned!

  • what effect is that at 2:48 ?

  • It's called an Ebow.

  • the real music

    great

  • F**K ME, wHAT A video....sex....:)XD

  • My favorite part of the song, is when Bono changes his voice tone in 3:34 and 3:47 like the studio version. WOW! It´s just beautiful.

  • @erickrolo yea its great how Bono can do different types of voices

  • U2 wrote pride

  • U2 wrote "Miami"

  • dooode why the fuck is this comment on half of the u2 videos on this site, get a fuckin life

  • cool version of this song - which I consider to be one of their best. was great to hear it last week on the 360 tour!!

  • great live version , I love it, great voice of bono, the current version (for 360 tour) in my opinon has low quality in comparision to this great version , and Bono doesn´t have the same voice.

  • Well, it is 22 years ago,..but I agree in some context that Bono's voice has declined, but still, THE best live band ever to take a stage. What I miss is the fire that seems to have cooled in their performances. Seems to that the new material has really soured a lot of fans.

I've seen the 360 tour and fans thristed for the older material. Not much reaction to NLOTH

  • right ,bono597 , I don´t like NLoTH either , if you compare the 2 last albums HDATB and NLOTH, the last album has a low quality because HDATB was a great album. Sure , they are the best live band ever, after all, I would like to listen more classics in the next concerts.

  • I don't agree. NLOTH was a different, more experimental record but not really any poorer than Bomb.

  • lol you are insane nloth is way better than the last 2 u2 albums its a return to more unforgettable fire type material!!!! moment of surrender is timeless epic classic!!!

  • bla

  • U2 are irish, and proud. I am on the other hand am scottish and proud. You can ram your 'United Kingdom' up your poor deluded hole you FEB !!

  • U2 are 100% British and should be proud of it.

Bono should be on the Queen's Honour's list.

Definitely deserves an OBE like Bob Geldof.

U2 - yet another triumph in musical culture for we people of the British isles..

  • Bono is A KBE man!

  • He's already been knighted, twat.

  • All nation bashing aside, I remember U2 being a great band when I was in college, and guess what? They rock regardless of where they are from.

  • You're absolutely insane. Ireland is a republic. We fought for our independence and won it. Don't get me wrong; I adore England but Irish literature like Joyce is Irish. I study English literature, in that it's literature written in the English language, but it's written by an Irish man. The monarchy has very little power and so the phrase 'God Save The Queen' has an equally low significance. Perhaps you should say 'God Save Gordon Brown'.

  • Our dear Queen has a regiment called ''The Irish Guards' who consist of soldiers from Northern and Southern Ireland. Our Union jack is made up up of the individual Flags of three of the Kingdom's countries all united under one Sovereign - the countries of 'England, of 'Scotland' and of Ireland.

U2 are therefore a British band. So, lets toast our nation's culture and achievements.

  • i hate addmitting it but u2 are half british. not because of your silly excuse .

the edge was born in wales to welsh parent,s and adam clayton was born in england to english parent,s.

as for ireland being part of the british isles , you pulled that one out of your pompous brit asshole.

ireland is a republic. a seperate nation to the commonwealth.

the three flags are england, scotland and wales you ignorant fuck.

go back to school before opening your dumb british mouth again you cunt.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but U2 formed in Ireland making them an Irish band.

  • thats a load of old shit!!

made his career in an english team so i suppose that makes him british?!?!?!?!?!

don,t be so fucking ignorant all your life.

  • Wow I shouldn't reply to this because you are obviously 12, but I will anyway. If you asked any member in U2 if they were an Irish band, they would all say yes. So apparently it is you who is the ignorant one. Oh yeah and gargle a dick faggot I'm 17.

  • is that so?

and i take it you,v asked them this personally??

don,t be a cunt all your life like your cunt mama.

your logic is about retarded as forrest gump.

watch rattle and hum and adam clayton.,s answer when he,s asked his nationality you fucking inbred piece of rat shit.

  • I adore your childish humor, but I just don't see the point in argueing with an 8th grader.

  • just checked your profile.

    ha ha .

for a 45 year old man you are one ignorant slow prick.

    typical arogant know all brit.

if you are going to reply to me please make it something intelligent as i have no time for retarded cunt,s who talk nonsense.

  • Nonetheless, Ireland, North and South are still part of that archipeligo of islands called the British Isles. So U2 are a British band, in the same way that Irish literature, such as Joyce, is usually classified as English Literature.

So let us Brits of the island of Britain and Ireland, celebrate our common culture and it's

contribution to popular culture - U2, The Beatles, Simple Minds etc.

  • U2 are British. They come from the British Isles so that makes the British.

    God save the Queen.

  • U2 are Irish, they hail from the Republic, and they cannot receive a knighthood as they are Irish citizens not British, nor is Ireland (Republic) part of the commonwealth either

  • Bono is from Finglas,in North Dublin,Ireland.I grew up in the same place.

You try to tell a Finglas man that they are British and you will leave the place in a bag.

  • dieses lied hat was magisches

  • We British should be very proud that we produced a band like U2. Britain's fair land has produced some of the best bands in the world, and U2 is no exception. Almost as good as the Beatles. Why didn't U2 receive knighthoods - the Beatles did - though that dreadful John Lennon handed his knighthood back to our Queen.

    .

  • 100% IRISH

  • Is that so? Like him even more now.

  • nice costume

  • there is something in this song make it very special

    i love it

  • this song and this band is the very best of all time

    u2 is amazing

  • bono- your voice amazing mate

  • AMEN!!!!! this guy is God's messenger!

  • Hmm well if that was truly the case God would have told him not to release Pop.

  • the best song of U2 this music have something too much difficult to explain sorry for my bad english i'mitalian from leghorn :)

  • look at The Edge at 3:06

  • yeah - you don't see too much of that!!

  • lol i remember watchin this in a bar in france with a few friends, the guys put it on upon hearin i was irish. good times

  • what re you talking about!? how does this NOT suit U2?! this is classic U2! this is the classic stuff... -_-

  • @hectorvegas56 no kidding...u2 at their best!

  • dumb guy.

  • i was there yerrrrrrrr

  • it's was great in barcelona 2009 and was here !

hope they will played it in wembley.

  • I watched the performance of this song from Barcelona today, and then I watched this video...and I cried a little. I'm SO glad they brought it back! :)

  • Hey dude, YOU f**k off. If you don't like them., don't comment on the videos. You obviously don't know good music, but that's not my problem. If people don't have anything pleasant to say, they should keep their mouths shut. U2 is the greatest band ever, and you demonstrated your complete lack of knowledge on their charity work, as well.

  • OMG ! 22 years and there are playing this song in one day in Barcelona and I hope also in next gigs.

  • Great Song, they need to play this song on the upcoming tour

  • "Wellcom...to the Onforgettable Fire." Gotta love that irish accent!

  • According to the leaked setlist for Barcelona, this will be played on the new tour. YES!! :)

  • Arte...

  • I was there!!! It was ... UNFORGETABLE!!!

  • THey were unique too, today not only is the music less interesting but their influence has permiated pop to such a degree you forget how shockingly good they were. Radiohead and nirvana were the same. Very few bands shake you up when you here them for the first time. Pop ususally just sounds like all the other pop or like jingles for some strange kind of identity commercial

  • I love The Unforgetable Fire. Ebow-tastic.

  • Watching a video like this reminds me of how great U2 USED to be and just how much garbage the new stuff is. This band peaked after Zoo Tv and no longer has 1/2the power that they used to have. Man may argue this but if you saw the band in 80's and 90's I think you'll agree.

  • Agree!!!!

  • I agree - ish, but I think its because they're a victim of their own success & the state of the industry. Bono hasn't forgotten how to write - 'white as snow' proves that - its just that they've got to create different music to stay relevant - (e.g. Vertigo ). Maybe their crime is that they've lost the balls to make an album which is off-trend in the way that The unforgettable Fire was. But just look at the back catalogue; they're still the greatest band in the world by a mile.

  • Also - I kinda tire of hearing how Kings of Leon have taken over as the worlds biggest band - they're good, don't get me wrong, but it's ludicrous to even put them in the same ballpark as U2. There's more content on 'War' alone than in all KOL releases combined. If in 12 years time KOL release an album which redefines their genre in the way Achtung Baby did, then they're in with a shout, but let's face it, I dont think any of us GENUINELY believe they'll even be together in 12 years.

  • well theyre all brothers so I'd say theyre almost definitely going to still be together in 12 years.

And you can't compare U2 with KOL. Sure, "Soft" mightn't have as much lyrical depth as "Sunday Bloody Sunday" or whatever, but the Leons haven't had any pretentious stinkers like "Elevation" or "Sweetest Thing." I'll take "Joe's Head" anyday!

    - A U2 fan and a Kings of Leon fan.

  • Kings of Leon now??? LOL wasent it like Coldplay about a week ago?? haha oh man all these new bands taking over as BIGGEST BAND makes me laugh. One phrase that sums it all up is "All Kings and No Crowns" God Bless U2.

  • 2:53 guitarr hell ya boy !

  • Q Q ISSO???DE OUTRO MUNDO!!!!!!

  • Go to U2GuitarTutorials on YouTube to learn this song.

  • wish Bono sang more songs from the Joshua Tree album ... theyre great!!!

    from Lima Peru

  • This song is NOT from The Joshua Album

  • Dude they have a whole album called The Unforgettable Fire, so wouldn't you suspect that this song would be on that album?

  • really best song of all time but in my opinion all the songs of u2 is best

  • In my opinion is the Best song of the Best Band "U2"

  • A MELHOR MUSICA DO U2!!!!!!!!!

  • Damn I don't want to pay for an album I already have (The Joshua Tree) just for this DVD

  • well if you look in the related videos, you find a better quality upload of this performance

  • This whole show is an officially released DVD with the Joshua Tree Deluxe cd remaster. This crappy VHS copy can go away now.

  • ...The best group in the history of music...unforgettable fire....unforgettable....thank you u2....francesco from italy

  • bono's doing his old walking-to-the-corner-of-the-stage-routine there...

giving the satge hands a scare!

    Great song. Great sound!

  • I, I will begin again

    I, I will begin again

I will be with you again

I will be with you again

I will be with you again

I will be with you again

  • Bono is soooo sexy! :p

  • ma sexy cosa bwhahahaahahhahaha

  • classic

  • The Edge is a genius.

  • Bono quote " I like Chinese food..i just cant eat it everynite"

  • They didnt have alot of presequenced track technology back then.

  • They still do some songs require additional keyboards.

even songs like bullet the blue sky has guitar sounds added during the verse.

Most groups that play live are the same i imagine

  • I'm afraid that now Bono is not more able to sing this song live in the same way of this...because of cigars... :-( Anyway the piano-keyboard in this version sounds horrible...

  • iam sure he could have still done a good job of this into the 90s they just seemed to drop some really good songs my fave been wire one of them

  • His voice has been sounding great recently ever since he quit smoking...maybe we'll get this song back on the upcoming tour together with Red Hill Mining Town? Okay maybe not but a fan can dream...

  • YEAHHHHHHHH VERY GOOD SONG from album THE UNFORGETABLE FIRE 1984 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 U2 THE BEST BAND FROM THE WORLD

  • u2 great band in 80'i love this time, joshua tree tour in paris, woonderfull performance

  • seen them this year in cardiff they where mindblowing

  • At 3:40 and 3:54 the live vocal requirements for this song become even too much for the great man himself!

    Magical song.

  • one of my all time fave song's live .

  • listening to this song over and over again, lying in my chair pretending to study when i was 14. The awakening.

  • Love to laura 1111 :-p

  • Laura's very lovable! XXX1111OOO

  • good to see you here, isn't this a great song!

  • I think he is using an e-bow, which Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson from Big Country used quite a bit to get the "bagpipe" sound. Go to my channel, on my favorites, and watch "The Storm" by Big Country. It's incredible.

  • "The Unforgettable fire" is probably the most original album recorded by U2. The title-track is a very underrated song.

  • I think its Acthung Baby but I love that one as well... actually the unforgettable fire is my third favourite album from U2 after Achtung Baby ans Zooropa

  • Edge is the best guitarist alive and i aint kidding.
