Müller injured Rijsbergen's knee in the first half, somewhere around the 20th minute. That is why Rijsbergen is annulling offside over here.
Rijsbergen did play on with his knee because Holland had no alternatives with injured Hulshoff, Israel, Drost and Mansveld. Some of them became injured in matches against German teams, by accident probably but nevertheless noteworthy.
Ironic that the so called "less talented" dutch team of 2010 were closer to winning than the total football teams of 74 and 78 ever were.
The dutch always missed their goal chances in the finals and started to foul/kick their opponents. I was surprised Cruijff wasn't red carded after fouling the goal keeper.
A bit surprised that Mr Dienst had got himself involved in this debate. Admittedly he was reliant on his linesman but he is ultimately the fella that allowed Geoff Hurst's 2nd goal to stand in the 1966 World Cup Final....the one that clearly bounced on the line.
And there has been a clear foul in the penalty area in the second half against Hölzenbein as well. But in the dutch myths they were cheated by the bad, bad germans.
@621380 charming!!!! was an attempt to maybe educate anybody unfamiliar with previous offside interpretations. Enough people don't understand it now. It is definitely a wrong decision they happen unfortunately. Perhaps you could be slighly less insulting with your comments in future??
@refboy36 .your attempt is meaningless...there is no german player in offside position..i knows very well the offside rules in this days..iam old enough...your suggestion is still useless...
@621380 if you are old enough to remember the LAWS back then then i'm sure you're of an age where courtesy and civility was still common place. FYI i'm not immune to making errors of judgement and wrote the first comment having watched the clip once and obviously not properly. there was clearly no player in an offside position and it's a clear mistake. I'm big enough to admit my mistakes. it appears you aren't able to handle a rational reasonable statement that wasn't aimed just at u.
it doesn't matter as germany won anyways, but it in a way it does matter to me as i'm often confronted with the notion that it was an undeserved win. (doubting the righteousess of the german penalty) though i can understand the doubt, i think the german penalty wasn't clearly undeserved. most people will agree that the total football played by the technically brilliant dutch team was more attractive to watch. but if you can't come back to score it is a shame, but not completely undeserved.
dienst means ithe perspectice can be tricky..but in müllers case he was oneside....your response is a bit misleading..müller was about 2 yards oneside in a moment the pass was played...2 yards..
haha the funny thing about this is he says he thinks it was onside but on the replay you cannot be sure because on television you could be tricked by the perspective and the distance :D
and nowadays it's just video analyses, head phones and crap like this. it was a simple time but it was a good time ;)
he used his knee.... referee taylor allready has pointed out 1975 that his decision was wrong.. and müller wasnt offside..but this is ignored for decades..
he was onside... question remains did he make contact with his hand? perhaps it is poetic justice that the goal was disallowed even though for the wrong reason
Might not have been offside but does look like hand-ball when Muller gets it so could still have been classed as not legit; still, that wasn't what Taylor disallowed it for....

The guy who interviews Arie Haan is a famous german sports commentator. His name is Harry Valerien.

Let's say the score was 2 1 to Holland and they won. Would they have been quesioned as legitimate winners like England have been over the years?
The truth is in all sport you always get decisions that are wrong and sometimes they come at crucial times. Muller's goal should have stood.

I really wonder how anyone viewing this slow-motion can suggest Müller might have used his hand to get the ball.
