  • Oh God, this music got me all jumpy and happy!

  • hell yeah

  • WOW! Todd, you're an amazing player, I'd love you to be my personal country guitar coach! Unfortunately I live in Germany where I'm halfway to fame with my kind of playing, but the real deal are people like Albert Lee, Brent Mason, Brad Paisley, Johnny Hiland ... and you! I love the way how you are dancing in the studio while recording some serious stuff. Or was it a playback take after the actual recording? Anyway, great job, man. If you were a girl, I'd kiss you all over! Cheers, Chris.

  • how do you do that type of lick at 1:13, it sounds like a half step slide up/down thingy. this is really cool guitar playing. You never hear of steve via or malmsteen doing any country picking or even acknowledge the genre, i wish they would cause i would love to hear them chicken pick!.

  • pure talent and pure technique guys!!

  • Awesome.

  • Absolutely incredible playing, Todd. Wonderful music.

  • smokin' out man!!!!

  • What the heck is the sexuplet thing @ 2:45? That's awesomazing. Really, how are you doing that?

  • Its a whole tone scale. 2nd string 2nd fret, 3rd string 4th fret, pull off to 3rd string 2nd fret, then the 4th string 3rd fret (F note). Run started on C#, then goes down in whole tones (ie 2 fret intervals) all the way down to F, leave OUT the G note in the whole tone scale. 4 notes total, pull off on the 3rd string. After you've played those 4 notes, go up two frets to 4th position and repeat the EXACT same lick, Go up two more frets, repeat in 6th position. last note is 2nd string 8th Fret.

  • Next go to the 10th pos, Do the EXACT same lick mentioned above, except with a different rhythm. Triplet then quarter note rather than 8th notes in part one. For the right hand, all notes played on the 2nd string are played with the middle finger of the right hand, all notes played on the 3rd and 4th strings are played with the pick.

  • @gtrcoach Who are you??? what is a whole tone scale? we just call it chicken pickin...could I get some insight on this?

  • A "whole tone" is a fancy word for a two fret interval of pitch. So if you play the 3rd string open (G) and then play the 3rd string 2nd fret (A), you've just played an interval of a whole tone. A "whole tone scale" is just a scale that goes up in two fret intervals. So if you play the 3rd string open, then at the 2nd fret, then at the 4th fret, then at the 6th fret etc. You're playing a whole tone scale. Its not a scale that's typically used in country music. Its more common in Jazz.

  • Cool, thanks. That sounds great.

  • Wow--that was smoking!!

  • Bluegrass country chicken pickin is a style of guitar playing. There is a technique to doing this and once you know the pattern of how the progression goes and where the breaks are then you can easily improvise all kinds of licks and riffs in there. I prefer this style of guitar playing over the sweep picking because this type of hybrid bluegrass chicken pickin is IMO a lot tougher and harder to learn.

  • kick ass

  • having been a rock guitar player all my life I have just discovered this end of the guitar world and I love it.

  • Keep Austin weird.

  • what kind of tele is that? not as twangy as a regular usa fender.

  • G&L ASAT with 3 pickups. BOSS ME-10, Fender Showman Heads, EV Speakers in 1x12 (1x15?)cabs.

  • tabs??

  • Man, Todd is a fantastic player! Pulling off a song like this all in one take adds to the difficulty level, as well!

  • wow im not a country fan but i give this 5* :)

  • i am applauding in front of my monitor...well i was till i typed this....

  • wtf this is so cool

  • awesome!

  • excellent style and your timing is dead on. seriously, this is some of the best finely polished country playing that i've ever seen.

  • excellent playing, and doesn't just rely on speed, very tasty double stops and great phrasing.

    I am envious.

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!

  • Sorta reminds me of Roy Clark in a couple of different ways, and that ain't a bad thing. Great video!

  • Whatever, he's sweep-picking, uh, or tapping. I mean, um, no....he's.......Damn it! This guy is a MONSTER player!

  • Damn fine picking!!!

  • Actaully ADDICTED to this..

    Wowee

  • Todd Barth is the man!

  • Disgustingly life-threateningly great picking. Licks at 3:15 ripped my face off!

  • LOOK OUT BRENT MASON ! THIS GUY IS HOT !

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!

  • That lick at 2.46 made my jaw drop

  • lol yes he must have decided at 2.46 that he wasn't playing enough notes. amazing picker!

  • That is so cool, way too fast for me to learn anything, but fantastic all the same.

  • He's great but he's also entertaining. I like his head bobs and chewing his cud. He makes it look like fun instead of hard work.

Todd Barth? Never heard him before now. He makes me smile!

  • Thats some real Cow shit Kickin' stuff !! 5 Stars!!

  • Great.

I hope Chet Atkins can see Youtube from Paradise. :o))

  • Great Stuff!!!!

  • Todd with Danny and Brian,Man you can

Really burn it my old friend...

    Tim

  • oh my satan

    this is absolutely fuckin incredible

im normally listening to extreme metal (which is still quite talented) but id be hard pressed to find metal guitarists that can tear up a fretboard like this guy!!!

  • try farm fiddling by zakk wylde for a bit of metal country.they are grate but it totally different .they would struggle doing metal as a metal player would doing this

  • Fenomenale!!!

  • i thougt it was kirk hammett :S

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawesome dude!

  • BRAVOOOO

  • Ron Jeremy sure can shred

  • ARGGGG!!!!!!!

  • your strings look as though they were put on by steve at ray hennings!!!

  • Nah, I've been putting on my own strings since I was 15. Those tuners have holes drilled into the shafts. You cut the string to length, then put the end down in the hole, bend then start wrapping around the posts.

  • LOL!

  • magnificoooooooooo. grande chitarrista

  • awesome

  • where can I get your music? PUT it on Itunes my man. please. oh and that video of you playing with jimmy herring is also great.

  • LoL...he does look like Ron at that. But this guy is a great picker!

  • Guys, just for the record...the mustache got shaved off YEARS ago. Stop the Ron Jeremy bit!! I'm much better looking that Ron. LOL

  • LOL Yay i love it!

  • sick playing!

  • Wish I didn't have to hold my pick with thumb,1st, and 3rd...Travis pickin ROCKS!!

  • fantastic playing. Thanks!

  • MAN...I'm no afficiando of country either but WOW...great guitar is great guitar!!

  • Man, I dislike country music but I know great playing when I see it.

JEEZE THAT WAS HOT SHIT! :D

  • Great guitar techique for sure. I just listened to Vince Gill on youtube and maybe not such a fast picker but speed is not everything in music. A wise man once said nothing has ever done better by doing it faster.

  • You sure he was wise? Or maybe he was just a slow musician. A realist once said that the phrase of real beauty being inside was a common phrase for the ugly - Jim Carey.

  • its def a tele, most likely custom

  • Mid 80s G & L ASAT. It was originally creme/yellow but was refinished. At the time they were not making ASATs with 3 pick ups. This one was built by G&L for Todd with the pick up config from another G&L guitar that was kind of a Strat Copy because he like the way it sounded and preferred the 3 pick up configuration to the 2 pickup design they were making at the time.

  • he is pretty hot.

  • Doesn't appear to be a telecaster at all, looks more like a G&L ASAT

  • Great stuff! Did you learned that at academy? Could you give me some hints on how to do impro on this kind of stuff

  • borgrif i agree i play lead guitar my self played lots of country guitar instrumental in country clubs getting bit slow now in the fingers now awesome todd

  • Great playing. A tad repetitive in the beginning, but GREAT playing.

  • Thanks, the clip is actually a song. Not just a solo. the beginning is the "head" which of course, gets repeated.

  • This is... very cool, yeeeeeeeehaw !!!!

  • putting my guitar in it's case now, and posting it on E-bay!!
