  • THIS IS NOT ROTI, woman netter you come to Trinidad and learn how to do a proper roti.

  • awesome video my whole family is from guyana :D

  • Thx great vid :)

  • Super cool. Now I'm hungry frm durban. Come c us

  • i am an indian.

first, i never use oil in the whole process, guess noone does here. so thanks for that add.

second, we just replace your last step with placing the roti on flames ( yes, we use stoves with real flames instead of a heater) which makes it go baloonie. i am a rookie in cooking. thanks for the vdo.

  • check indian store/supermarkets if there is any around.some people use the pancake skillet as well

  • Hi, Please tell me where to get this Tawa. I live in Florida, USA.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this video. I am so appreciative.

  • Nice of u making ur maid cook this while u film this u whore

  • @tohott4u86 YOU ARE A DISRESPECTFUL BASTARD

  • My sister is from Guyana, she sounds just like this and that is Exactly how she makes it, and we both have a Trini dad, I love the video!

  • My sister is from Guyana, she sounds just like this and that is Exactly how she makes it.

  • @Trinlucia: Maybe you're right about Trinis making the best roti in the islands ..... unfortunately for you Guyana is not an island. Guyanese roti is da best! Go GT!

  • No other island could make roti like ah Trini. We have de real ting

  • where's the meat?......lol. ugh, i miss eating roti so bad!!!!

  • Great demo! This is *exactly* how Indian Parathas are made too ;-)

  • This is jus how my mom use to make

  • is she guyanaese?

  • what brand flour u use?

  • you too nasty you need a clean place to do it if you want the world to see,and thats not how guyana does it we do it from scratch ,flour baking, powder oil,

  • ffx!

  • I am Guyanese and that is not the right way to cook Guyanese roti. You are the only Guyanese i saw make roti different. If you are Guyanese then why you talking like you are from the UK?

  • @Shalline100 So why dont you show us the right way then.. thanks

  • @Shalline100 I was thinking the same thing! I've never ever seen or heard anyone make roti like that! My mum makes curry and roti every other weekend at least and she does not make it like that! Can't even say that the right way is a family recipe because even Guyanese people here in the UK who I'm not related to in addition to those I know in Guyana who have kindly invited me over for dinner when I've gone there on holiday to visit family; don't make roti like that =S.

  • @Shalline100 I don't see anywhere in the description that is says she is Guyanese.. But since she has a slight brit accent, maybe she is Brit, but family is from Guyana or Trini? I do hear a slight coolie accent.

  • I wish I had one of those things to cook them on! Very nice video, thanks!

  • oh my god

    thank you alot

i am from kuwait and my kids loves roti and its so hard to find it in slovakia !!

    thanx it was nice

    :****

  • Really a british person making guyanese roti wtf is this world coming to?

  • I really like this video but I need measurements! I am not a look see type of cook.

  • @dizzymaiden General ratio for most breads is 100 parts flour 55 parts water by weight.

Flour has a tendancy to change with the weather - the kitchen's humidity significantly changes the flour's moisture content, so measurements often dont work.

500g flour, ~275ml water. Use a food processor, add the water very very slowly - barely a pour, more of a slow drizzle. Stop adding water when the dough all picks up into a ball and races around the mixer (like you see in this vid). Perfect every time.

  • @dizzymaiden half a cup of water for every cup of flour.

  • chopin? but what piece?

  • @YDG777 final fantasy VII (or X) - prelude

    /watch?v=WPx3h5bwXVQ ;)

  • I can say i must be lucky to have come accros your recipe .

To be honest all was by coincidence .

Believe me your recipe is the best .

You must be proud of it .

So many thanks for sharing your roti recipe.

  • I love how FFX's TO Zanarkand's is the background song

  • Great video. I've watched many times and enjoy it each time. With over 300,000 views, Ms. Jemeela, you can confidently ignore the few ignorant comments on here. They have no upbringing.

  • what effect does using boling water have on dough. in general what are the effects of using hotter water.

  • awesome roti......

  • hahaha thats not how u make proper roti and im a 16 year old boy and know's HOW to make a proper roti :D

  • trinidad has d best roti

  • good video , but use nice things ..you showing the world to make roti and every thing looking nasty.

  • It's so funny how people can be so closed- minded!!! I appreciate this video guide! And for all the 'corrections' and 'rudeness' never mind that! Guyanese people are such a diverse culture and there are a million spins to the methods and names...:) Adapted from India yes...some people even say roti is FROM TRINIDAD....lot's of ignorance! Anyhow thank you once again this is great!

  • Loving the final fantasy intro...haha

• all names are Indian but it's still south american... ha ha ha what a joke..!!

  • I was amazed to see how many people have viewed this video, including myself. It is so funny that someone with no personality, talent is on You Tube. First of all, hygiene is very important and naturally the dish should look appealing.

I am positive you can do better

  • @kevin45434

She has way more personality and talent than you'll probably ever have. There is nothing unhygienic about anything in this video (no contamination with uncooked meats or poultry etc.) We do actually need the odd germ or two for beneficial purposes not least of which is developing an immune system. The dish does look immensely appealing.

Lastly, try doing better yourself or, better still, go stick your hygienic little head up your hygienic fat arse you ungrateful tosser!

  • I make lots of roti as well and I do not use my hand for oiling when cooking. I use a spoon. Its much better and you don't have to wipe your hand everytime you put your hand in the oil. Dip the oil with a tablespoon especially as the roti is cooking and hot. Also for better health reasons the hot and cold countries like the UK you have to be careful. I was born and bred in Guyana and learnt to make roti there.

  • great and what a lovely accent.

  • @ jemeela... my self rising flour has salt in it.... is that ok?

  • this was very helpful to me, now i dont have to go upstairs and ask my mother inlaw!!!! lol

  • ive never heard of roti before. i live in the united states. we prob dont have it over here but yea im gonna try to make it ! :) i prob fail but yeah. haha

  • Roti Bohot Acha Hai! <3

  • Roti Bohot Acha Hai!

  • I lobve her voice very soothing and caring a great teacher and her best phrase is *a little bit at a time* =D

  • @justinmccalman yea her voice is wonderfull!! and great vocabulary

  • ...I realize that you're using the FFVIII OST. Amazing.

  • good job. However roti is roti. there is no such thing as guyana roti or trinidad roti.

  • @kaajalgt OF course there is !! Learn a little history and visit both countries.

  • @kaajalgt do you read a book there is guyanese rotie and trinidad roti

  • HAHA love the final fantasy song at the end.

Great video, I'm married to a guyanese man, and I'd love to learn how to make this properly. Thanks for the great video!

  • Thank you for sharing! When I cook the paratha, it dosen't puff up on the stove the way it should...how can i fix that please?

  • Beautiful work and presentation, thank you.

  • mind-boggling, good tutorial i watched a fine tutorial at cooknutri . com without space

  • looks very unhygenic to me... the way she is doing it! use some gloves please

  • @SAURABHPOOJA1

I assume that you are currently existing in some sterilised plastic and cotton wool-padded coccoon-like segregation unit, unable to partake in the general lifestyle of this germ-ridden planet where we have managed to survive for centuries without too much trouble.

    Gloves ..... ????? get a life for God's sake

  • I dont mean to sound ignorant but what would you eat with this kind of bread, thanks for vid

  • @tegg23 you can eat this with a curry. like curry potatoes, or vegetables. it's really good.

  • @tegg23 Anything that you would eat with normal bread :) its even wonderful by itself with a bit of butter warmed up

  • cool vid

    you get 8/10

  • no baking powder...? we make roti soo much different in trinidad....like we dont use out hands to get burn...our roti is not that small...and we use butter for better taste and softness..

  • @genickos yeah. Guyana is so different. plus trini has a variety of different rotis like Daal-puri, Parata, and the sada. (excuse the spelling. lol)

  • @HumbleRoyalty guyanese ppl make those types of rotis as well.

  • Just out of curiosity, what race are you? You look kind of indian or islander, but sound very british o_O

  • when you dipped the doe at the flour was it still self rising flour?

  • @kanodudar

    yes

  • @Jemeela I grew up on the really flat roti wraps that Jamaicans and hispanic people use. It's almost like crepes and i was wondering do you know how to make those? because i cant find anone today who knows how to make the really flat roti wraps.

  • @kanodudar its spelled dough*

  • Cool, what a great little vid. I feel more confident now to have a go. Thanks!

  • interesting.. i'm indian guyanese and i've never seen roti being cooked this way, but guess it depends who u ask

  • Really informative and interesting. This video really shows that even Guyanese-style roti can be made in many different ways. I'm Guyanese and I don't make my roti like this. However, I do make it the same way as everyone else in my family. So, even within a country, families can have different methods of making roti. Long ago, this wasn't something written in books or taught in schools. We learned it from our parents and they, from theirs.

  • SELF RAISING FLOWER!!!?

No way ! its all about Elephant atta :)

  • I enjoyed your video. I dont know why u got so much hate you clearly said that this is the way your mami taught u Guyanese style. my husband is Jamaican of Indian parents and he makes his roti differently from the traditional Indian way. everyone makes things differently. recipes and ways of cooking change from year to year from place to place.

    be blessed

  • wow fntastic

  • recept für roti

    viel spass

    mama

  • Thank u!so nice

  • mmmmmmmmmmmm:)

  • Very nice..now I can do it on my own. no need to get my mom over here laughing at the trini girl. All I need is a Tawa. Thank you so much this really helped.

  • @afterdark25

you can use any flat based pan or wok.

  • Nice making Roti to Final Fantasy.

Now that brings me back rotfl

  • Comment removed

  • this makes me hungry. xD

  • Thank you for posting! Very interesting, and the bread is beautiful when you've finished it!

  • lol.... thats crappy roti mummy... your mom tought you wrong

  • Wow....did you call me dumb,LOL! Do me a favor badshawty92 instead of commenting on others youtube pages with your ignorance, how about you find some videos that are geared more towards your needs, such as learning how to spell properly and how to act like a lady because its obvious that you missed those lessons, poor thing!

  • Subtlelove you don't have to explain anything to anyone. You did us a favour by coming on youtube so I'm sure a lot of us appreciate that.

  • Comment removed

  • The roti was wonderful....it was a little hard to make at first but once you get the hang of it, it was great......thanks for posting!!

  • you did it all wrong why did you flatting before rolling it into da roll shape? and wheres your shortning? lol

  • @ subtlelove

    Wow, you sound so condescending!

There are people in Guyana who come from India originally almost 200 years ago, and therefore brought there culture/food with them, and so now there's a certain style of roti in South America also. I hope that helps.

  • I do have the understanding that people have moved places always and they do carry their culture with them as they move, but that was hardly what I said. I said this is not Roti, and the fact is that rotis do come from india. So being lived in England, if i make roti, i cannot say that this is the england roti ryt! that's all i meant. Sorry if u thought i was being too assertive

  • I love OXTAIL ROTI! Omfg! It is the best!

  • I'm from Guyana to and I love roti and chicken.what part are you from Guyana?

  • she made the roti wrong!

  • She is so cute. :)

  • Nice Video, Awesome.

  • There are a lot of crap cooking instructional videos on youtube, it's really refreshing to see one that's genuinely instructive, concise, nicely paced and well filmed. Fantastic Video.

  • Awesome! Oh and lol at the final fantasy music xD

  • thats what i was thinking! lol

  • cool video! come by and check my vid out! I am new to youtube

  • My absolute favorite meal in the entire world since i was a child!!! With Curry Goat or Chicken... Mi luv~~

  • the tawa look beat up though. anyone know where i can get a tawa to buy in canada . I live in pickering, ontario

  • @whiteliketar any west indain shop i think the colsest one is in scarburough

  • clap di roti rhel nice!

  • Gayanese roti=indian paratha. exactly same recipe. and why is the tawa so rough on the edges? bit overused, i guess?

  • wow she's really an expert!

  • ur doing good!!!!!!!!!!!

  • anybody can specify what is the flour used in the video?

    thanks

  • @surongluo she said self raising :D

  • Thanks for this video! Most Caribbean islands have some variation or the other of roti. I've never been able to get the roti shell/dough right. Now I'm going to try it with the help of your video.

  • Roti in my language means bread...hahahahahahahax lol..The intro song is from Final fantasy dissidia.

  • roti taste more better

  • Wow! that was almost the same as a Tortilla...here in New Mexico...mexican flat bread...exactly how it is made only we put baking powdr and salt in it... very well demonstrated. going to have to try it sumtime.. Thank you!

  • LOL @ the end...I got this recipe right the first time!

  • what oil do u have cause it is so pretty

  • Many years ago when I moved out of my parents home, I used to crave my mother's cooking. My parents are Guyanese, but I never learned how to cook.

I used to drive to my parents home, which took several hours, just to get some roti and curry once and awhile.

Thank you for the recipe instructions. Maybe now I'll surprise my mom and dad by cooking roti for THEM the next time I visit!

  • This looks very good to make!

    But i have to ask,

What type of oil do you use?

  • What music is that around 8:00?

  • "To Zanarkand" FFX theme

  • trinidad and tobago

  • isnt this song from the first final fantasy video game?

  • My hubby is Guyanese and my mum in law taught me how to make potato roti. I wana try this now! Thanks!

  • mmkkey.. nice

  • I like how you use Final Fantasy music :)

  • look tasty

    แต่ทำไม่เป็น

  • I cook this with my mom

  • is there anyway you can do it without touching it? I mean when it is on the hot pan??

  • it's not hot enough to hurt. but you could use metal tongs or a metal spactuler.

  • My beautiful Guyanese mummy made me the most beautiful roti to have with my sweet potato and butternut squash for my dinner last night.

    God bless Mummy's

  • Lmao, ffx music, random.

  • Thanks

  • I bet it could sell nicely at a restourant as a form of pizza with goat cheese, Roma tomatoes and basil
