Capitalism in its purest form is deplorable, although we're seeing a conservative socialist side to western politics in todays world, simply because the proletariat must be kept under the illusion that it is free and equal. This is not so in most of underdeveloped asia where feudalist sentiment remains and such norms are seen as fantasies. I believe in meritocracy and social mobility but not in class elimination - since the mere proposition is impossible, people will never stand as equals
Capitalism is the Monetary bondage of immense humanity in a politically manipulated, armed, tyrannical MARKET MECHANISM of alienation, exploitation and suffering. The Business as usual is the negation of our common humanity in cooperation and harmony to take care of our real needs and well being. Capitalism dominated by Corporate criminals or State dictators is the abstract process of Capital accumulation and concentration. Profit system is historically outdated ,destructive and dehumansing.
The tyrannies of capitalism, private or state mode of operation, Hitlers Nazi or Stalinist Russia , the horrors of wage slavery of immense humanity, the perpetual wars, poverty, exploitation, enviornmental destructions and so forth , the ongoing reality of fear, insecurity, dehumanisation should be baltently ,evidently obvious that the rule of PRIVATE GAIN is not sustainable and we need to transcend this insanity of the market to a world of cooperation for our collective needs and well being.
@arzoyan That sounds fine and dandy, but human nature does not seem to agree. The individual values his/her own power over the power of others. Is that such a bad thing? This sort of power structure has built civilization! The will to power of INDIVIDUALS has created values, art, and allowed us to make scientific discoveries. I am not stupid enough to subscribe to social Darwinism, but Marx seems to see things a little bit backwards. Would you not agree?
@TheDavid2222 Darwinism or Marxism are distorted by many to perpetuate and underpin the wage slavery of many for the material interest of the criminal ruling elite. For more understanding of human nature check out Bruce Lipton and Zeitgeist Moving Forward.
@arzoyan My understanding of Marxism is too limited to make any real decisions regarding Marxism. I admit that. I am well versed with Nietzsche and have a good general understanding of many other philosophers, but I assume that I have only scratched the surface of Marxist theory. Although I am very impressed by the philosophical arguments against Marxism.

@arzoyan I would have to agree with you on that. I just don't think we have come up with a very practical solution to the problem just yet. Unless Marxism can be reinterpreted in a more enduring manner.
@TheDavid2222 Karl Marx was a19th centurey socialist theoritiian, in real dailly European working class movement of the time he was a reformist . His central tenant was that THE EMANCIPATION OF THE WORKING CLASS IS THE WORK OF THE WORKING CLASS. All so called socialist movements across the world have been essentially REFORMIST,STATIST projects by leaders to maintain wage slavery/market system.
Well for those of us who do not have access to MP3 technology I would be wonderful if the BBC or public spirited soul posted more In Our Time podcasts on You Tube
I don't agree. Reason: also economics has a deeper foundation and it is this deeper foundation that can contribute to making sense out of history - not a mere superficial manifestation such as economics. You have to dig deeper.... This is also one criticism of Marx: he - even though he was a philosopher - remained too much at the superficial level. Thus a.o. his theories were instrumentalized. He took far too little into account what the human being is in itself -not only in the economic system.
The only way to make coherent sense out of the breadth of history (not just little bits here and there) is starting from Marx's thesis: economics underlies EVERYTHING, motivates EVERYTHING. The economic arrangement of life is the basis for all ideology, political thinking... even this moronic popular culture of ours... even the BBC.

@falstaffswims The will to power motivates EVERYTHING. Economics is just the tool used to administer power.
