  • lol, gotta love em tough guys in the interwebz. i would love meeting someone that could actually back up their claims. cena does his exercices correctly, slowly, controllably and their full extension. even i, who weight 158 pounds (real weight, no lying/roids/substances/acting tough in the internet) could squat/bench/deadlift 1000 pounds if i were to do it the way most people do (metaphoric lang). be more respectful to other people.

  • Wish I could squat barefoot. My long legs make it almost impossible without breaking form. I have to you use weight plates that my heels stand on just to get good depth.

  • My rule of thumb for bench pressing is to be able to lift your own weight. I'm 6 foot tall and 205 pounds. I can do 210 pounds for 4-6 reps after a warmup. If I go right to the 210, probably only 2 or 3 reps. I'm not trying to impress anyone, it's just my way of thinking, that you sshould be able to bench press your own weight.

  • To say I'm somewhat biased against all this bro-training nonsense is an understatemtn, but I'm actually quite impressed with this. I mean the man squats high bar oly with what looks to be pretty good technique. Done barefoot that's impressive as hell.

    As to deep squats causing knee problems, I only have one word for you guys: bullshit. Take a look at your elite weightlifters, wl coaches etc.. I bet none of those guys have as bad ACL injuries as do the powerlifting parallel squat dudes.

  • @babins1: guys in drug-free/tested powerlifting competitions are benching over 500lbs all the time. And spotters don't help you lift the bar, they help you to put it back if you can't finish the press. Cena might be on steroids, but a guy his size *definitely* does not need steroids to bench what he is doing.

  • His squat form is excellent. His everything form is excellent.

    Anyone thinking he is damaging his knees by going deep... spend 2 minutes researching it instead of relying on gym myths. The consensus amongst sports scientists is that it's either safer, but no more dangerous, to go deep, and the benefits are much greater. And don't use a Smith machine. They are actually more dangerous, and give much less benefit.

  • @AssyrianMuscle He's not even using the smith machine. It's inside the square, not sliding up and down the rails. If I'm working out alone, I always use the smith. It's just a lot safer.

  • @GoznerPeter Hes just outside of shoulder width, hes got a good stance, there is nothing wrong with those squats. I admit I get a sore knee for about 2 hours after squats, but I dont have any knee problems.

He is the true role model of what all wrestlers should look like, at 6ft 2 240-245 pounds that is achievable without steroids. Eat like a monster and train like a madman and you can get there!!!!   • The weights he's lifting are good weights, but you don't need to be on steroids to hit those numbers, you just need to have trained for years and do STRENGTH training. Too many ignorant people on here who probably can't even do their own BW on any of the big three run their mouths like they know it all. If you don't know about a subject, don't talk like you do i.e don't state your uninformed opinion as fact.

  • @deathkinggodfather1 It's a lot easier to try and play down other peoples achievements in an atttempt to bring them down to your level than it is to strive to match and beat their's. Successful people have that healthy attitude of not bringing people down, but seeing it as an example of what can be achieved. Frankly, I know where my heads at, but also that plenty of people will always seek to belittle your achievements with snide remarks.

    Thing is, I've seen NFL lineman lift these type of numbers & don't see people calling Leonard Davis or Holoti Ngata out for possible steroid abuse, they lift numbers very much the same as this! maybe even more!

    John, as you said, has just worked his ass off for years to get to this level of strength

  • @aaronalwines Yes, I've done 150Kg so approx 30Kg short of that and I'm 100% natural so it's not exactly a long shot to suggest someone heavier than me could put on the additional 30Kg. Any experienced BB or PL would be hitting comparable numbers. FYI I've been working out for 4-5 years.
