The pianos were beyond repair, of course. The wood was reclaimed and used in a variety of projects, ranging from helmholtz resonators to a coat rack. Still have a few pieces left in my shed, which I'll use up at some point. FYI: My guitar students loved the stunt. --n8

Tradition or not this is stupid and a waste. Not only could that piano have been given to a local school (if it didn't work, maybe they could have FIXED it) but even if it was useless the tonewoods could have been used to build another instrument. Pointless, stupid destruction and an insult to music.
