It's just like losing a dog! there great companions and Parrots out live most dogs! I had a yellow nape amazon when I was 15 she died when I was 37!! I still miss her!! I'm 46 now and just got me a little green cheek conure she's a little lover! hope she lives long! I want to get a Hahns Macaw to soon!

I have a Sun Conure "Conito" and I perfectly know how you enjoyed Marty's companion, it's incredible how we get bonded to our feathered friends, Conito is not my pet, but my friend. @Paniolodave Conito just passes away, I took him to the emergency vet, spent two days hospitalized with supportive care but it was inevitable; lung disease (air sacs infection out of nowhere) we are devastated at home, coming back home and accept there is no greeting at the door anymore, no morning wake up scream, his empty cage, toys is a horrible sensation. He had a short but great life full of love, I know he is also waiting until we 'can play again' together.

Thank you so much for your reply. The Memorial Service was beautiful--so sad, but comforting. We all stood in the darkened Lobby of the hospital, holding candles, and speaking up about our individual loved, but lost, pets. Despite all the tears and sniffles, there was so much love in that room. I could only think of the pathetic people of the world who have never chosen to love an animal, furry, feathered, whatever. Sadly, most parrots in captivity live miserable lives and die prematurely due to neglect and abuse. The exotic animal trade is abusive and exploitive by nature. In my opinion, animals should never be purchased. We need to stop supporting these disgraceful businesses that see them as mere commodities. There are enough animals available for adoption if people truly care.

Not the same, but it is "special", just like Martha says it is. The we also have a White Belly Cique and a African Grey. I have yet to place the African Grey on vidoe. So sorry to hear of your loss. I've had many birds close to me, but none as close as my current, Jake. He's a Hahn's macaw, he'll be two years old in August. I've had him since he was five months. He's like a child to me. The only bird who ever came close was Maki, a crimson rosella we had a few years ago. She passed away at the age of 6. I'll never forget the feeling of devestation from when she passed. I hope your new baby helps you heal, although s/he'll never replace Marty.

This makes me cry. I lost my Precious, also a Hahn's Mini MaCaw...I had him for about 10 years and a friend had him on her shoulder ... he flew up into the trees but didn't know how to get down. I searched and searched for Precious. I like to believe that a family found him and he is happy. I can't think of him not being alive; he really lived up to his name. People think they are just birds, those people don't know 'birds.'

This almost made me cry. I have a Hahn's Macaw that I love like a child. There's just something about them, they are so cute but have a personality that is more human than any other animal. There is just something about them. They say if you never had a real parrot, then you won't understand.

Marty and i were very bonded, i just wish i knew about video taping and putting him on youtube. Marty was 4 years old when he passed away, he had a heart disease. I really think that it is a privalege to own a Hahns Macaw. Thank you Bill.

I know exactly what you mean. My boy is really special to me. Last pressie from my mum before she passes away. I also had a rosella called Frodo who died last summer and I really miss him as well. Take care

Everytime I watch your video brings to to my eyes of what you and Marty had together. I have a Hahns Macaw by the name on Martha. These birds a amazing. The relationship you have with them. No bird owner would ever understand that. I tell people I have birds, and they say oh birds. They not specail. What they don't know.

@mrbill211 Oh i defanatly know what you mean. non bird people will never understand the love and affection they give and how smart they are. personally i think if anyone is thinking about getting a parrot, make it a Hahns Macaw, they are just so funny and loving. thanks mrbill for your comment.

This almost made me cry. I have a Hahn's Macaw that I love like a child. There's just something about them, they are so cute but have a personality that is more human than any other animal. There is just something about them. They say if you never had a real parrot, then you won't understand.
I am sorry for your loss, but I think you made his very short a life a very happy one too.

Dave, I can not get over how warm and affectionate the Hahns Macaw's are. You must have really bonded to your bird to even think of a video you did for him. Who did Marty die? Did you say at the age of 4? I had my Green Cheek for 6 years. I wanted to get another Green Cheek but when I saw Martha...that was it...she took to me and I to her...Bill

Marty and i were very bonded, i just wish i knew about video taping and putting him on youtube. Marty was 4 years old when he passed away, he had a heart disease. I really think that it is a privalege to own a Hahns Macaw. Thank you Bill.

David, Thank you for responding to my video of Martha the Hahns Macaw, we got her as a rescue bird and she has been with us since August 2009. I am so sorry to hear about Marty. Looking at Marty, I see Martha. Not long ago, before Martha, I lost a Green Cheek Conure."ChiliBird", we were only apart when I had to leave the house for work and run errands, and even then, he came along. I do share your loss and know what you feel. Bill

I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost one of mine in May, in a different way. It's not fair but at least we got to love them for a time. I'm sure Marty was happy with you.
