I'm a Mac user but I have to use Windows 7 for programming, and I've got to say, the new taskbar is addicting! It's kind of like the "dock" in Mac OS though.
hey, great vid. i have windows 7 just like u do, but u know when u put the cursor onto one of the icons on the taskbar a minature version of that window pops up, mine for some reason stopped doing that, how to you recover that?
Dude YOU SUCK!!! put the god dam camera on the god damm screem. Or do you just liking to hear your self speak regardless of how bad you are doing what you claim to be able to do which is to show some one how to get that damm task bar.

I don't think the taskbar is double the height. In Windows XP the height of the taskbar is 30 pixels and in Windows 7 it's 40 pixels. (I don't know the height of the taskbar in Windows Vista.)
one thing sucks about it! Like all the others you can have a window over the taskbar this one has no option to do that so its always showing and that sucks for gaming because its in your way! P.S its now called super bar

1 problem I have with vista it the renaming system. If I have 3 images; 1 jpg. 1 gif. and 1 png, and I select all of the images at the same time, and rename them all at once, they will all be the came name IE DMC jpg. DMC gif. and DMC png. Instead of DMC jpg. DMC (1) gif and DMC (2) png. Does Windows 7 have the same problems?
no reason in buying it... not that its cool and all... but probally by next year im sure there will be a windows 8 then by the end of next year there will be a windows 9 and then in 2011 there will be a 10 and so on....... because if you notice we went from a windows 98 to 99 to 2000 to windows xp and now we got windows 7 yeah you will think twice in buying windows 7 if you learned your lesson between late 90's and early 2000's

But just for good measure... 'I'm done with Microsoft'... sorry Bill :-)
People, Bill Gates didn't single handedly design Windows 7. He is just a business man that owns Microsoft, that's about all. I doubt he even helped with windows 7. So stop blaming him.
Sorry, but all these gimmicks are useless to me. I already switched from Vista Home Premium to Ubuntu 64. I will never go back. With Vista I had several problems - BSOD, the internet would stall ALL the time, and then, all of the sudden, it told me that my key was no longer valid and that I would have to call Microsoft to get a new one, what a waste of time.
I'm not here to sell the idea of switching over to Ubuntu. It's a matter of personal preference. But I'm done with Bill.
oh brother... thank god i switched to mac. os x has such a better way of dealing with open windows... and the os x dock more versatile than anything i've seen with windows 7 taskbar.
If your only problem with windows is the lack of a dock, then save yourself the money by getting a windows computer and installing RocketDock for FREE! Problem solved, money saved.
Hello, I almost love the taskbar... but what I don't like, is that it keeps in a group the same programs or browsers. I have the Taskbar Buttons in Never Combine, and when it still keeps all toguether. If I want to to have: (from left to right) MSN - Internet Browser - X Program - X Program - Internet Browser - etc... I can't ungroup it... I cant't use it the way I need it.
If they have no idea, why get the computer since they obviously won't know how to fix some issues. And why would you pay $1500 plus for a good PC when the Macs at $1199? :3
MY bro just built a gaming PC for 800 bucks with the AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black edition processor in it with the HD4890 4Gb DDR3 and 500gb HD .. seems cheaper than a mac and way better.
@acynnon I just built mine with that exact same processor and am loving it. I want a mac as well, but honestly, the price is too much to handle. Get your money's worth!
acynnon: You're never going to be able to find a Mac that has the same kind of powerful hardware as a custom-built PC, for the same price. Your bro did the right thing.
And those people end up not even knowing what RAM is half the time and don't even know what runs the computer so it makes more sense getting the money for a Mac so you know what you're doing. And if the "average joe" can affor most if not all PCs, i guess that includes Macs since they're PCs.
you should try to study before you say shit like that. the kernel build is not the same as vista , vistas kernel was NT 6.0 and windows 7 is NT 6.1 which means that they went into the code to fix the problems, and im using windows 7 RC 64-bit right now and im only using 500 mb of ram, i had windows vista 64 before and i was using 1.5 gb of ram, maybe you should try windows 7 before you talk shit.
your right I should try it but I just bought a brand new dell 2 months ago and because of vista thats why I bought my mac yesterday. But like really what all is different its all the same. Maybe you could enlighten me with what is different then. because honestly it in general is all the same.
well it automatically installed all my drivers and updates, windows 7 doesn't start in low resolution like the others, iv tested the stability with games and source hammer editor and its never crashed, the whole OS is more stable, it uses way less resources than vista, its been beta tested for about 7 month( im not sure the exact date the beta has been out) then they released the RC to test for even more bugs, and from how many tests iv done only 1 program has crashed on me, and that was IE8
why would you compare a cheap dell against an expensive computer like a mac? if you compared a PC around the same price range as your mac, I'm sure you would say they are on par
the HP touchsmart is shit (as are most consumer-grade OEM PCs) I made a computer with 6gb ram, nehalem processor, 24 inch 1920x1200 screen, ati 4890 graphics, aluminum case, blu-ray burner and dvd-burner, hdtv tuner, 2.1 system, laser mouse, and wave keyboard for just under $1500. not only does that decimate an iMac, it also beats the Mac Pro in many applications.
Notice how you're one of the idiots comparing PRICE and not even performance. Get the same specs and see what happens. THEN it's a fair test. Jeez. Microsoft fanboys make the fight in their favor before doing anything.
RIght...because having a macbook pro 17 makes me a microsoft fanboy.....
For someone as ill-informed on hardware as you that can't understand the simple concept that all my hardware is on par/exceeds that of a mac pro, I reiterated the point and mentioned how its performance compares to both an iMac and Mac Pro.
The configuration you've listed is the 8-core Mac Pro in its most expensive configuration. I wouldn't be amazed if that price were near $10,000. for less than half of that price, you can mace a PC with the exact same specs though.
My PC outperforms the standard $2500 quad-core Mac Pro. But if you want to talk about $10,000 computers in their most expensive configurations, a PC will still win.
yeah especially if you get like 4 cuda cards within for about 10t...
BUT since i write about higly overpriced (even compared to cars;) stuff that hardly improves (like other consumer electro-nix;)
HOW ABOUT some handy new concepts???
1. revolver (start menu from right click on free desktop. system setup, search, files, pics, web, sites etc from a single completely customizable sun flower like gui. little on inside more on outside !
2.(sc)rollable task bar stuff that doesnt stain the desktop
IF you count supercomputers. And see? Whenever people mention PCs being better than Macs, they choose the low end Macs and choose the RIDICULOUSLY high end PCs that no average person could EVER afford.
well lets see , a PC WITH SAME spec as a mac , is still about 20-40% cheaper than the mac , if u wanna match specs , dell offers much much more for the same price of a mac pro desktop , its all the same OEM hardware in the dell and mac , but if people wnna spend more on a mac , then i dont give a toss TBH , people like me r just stating that u can get much more for yer money and there r better competitors
Actually thats exactly what YOU did. I compared my $1500 PC that had similar/better hardware than a $2500 quad core Mac Pro. If the Mac Pro is not a high-end mac I dont know what is. So there's your fair comparison.
Then you came in and tried to compare my $1500 PC to a Mac Pro configured to cost over $10,000. So there you go; enjoy your irony pie.
when you click on quick launch your program still pops up in the task bar. Quick launch is not a dock and obviously you don't know what a dock is because you have never used one.
quick launch in windows is just short cuts and nothing else a Mac OS dock is so much more.
so at this point you have proved nothing and every PC and mac user is just laughing at you.
and you have just opened your self up for a great argument with out even trying.
Oh I know what the dock is bor. I know how it lights up when you launch the application showing that it's running, and how it switches applications when you click it if the application is already running. Yes I know what the dock is. I am not ignorant--at least I try not to be. :D Anyways, my point was that the New taskbar is simply a combination of the Quick Launch and the Taskbar Buttons. And Even if windows did copy, WHO CARES! Apple doesn't care, why should we?
I personally hate the feature of Windows of the same app stacking up like that. I like to see all my opened windows so that i can open the window i need without using the stupid thumbnails.
OS X got it right. They got "jump lists" and windows minimized in their Dock.
Windows 7 looks awesome! Based on the reviews I'm watching and reading all around the web people are actually liking it! It's about time Microsoft didn't f*ck up an OS.*cough * VISTA *cough* But I sometimes think of Windows 7 as a huge update to Vista. But when Chris said Windows Explorer was rebuilt what does he mean? New features to Windows Explorer too?
to my knowledge it was rewritten from the ground up for speed. I'm sure there are more changes other than speed. but its nice to know they rewrote it after so long.
Composite thumbnail previews wow I've only had that on my Linux box since 2008! In fact I've had all of this window management stuff including screen edge actions...
However taskbar pinning and jump lists are definitely cool. Hats off to Microshaft for managing to stay relevant on desktop UI innovation. See what you can accomplish when you're not just out photocopying everyone else?
Chris has never been a Windows hater. In a sense he owes the start of his career to Microsoft. He does however pretty much hate Vista. So much so that it caused him to switch to OS X. He does acknowledge the fact that MS is making steps in the right direction as is evident by this video... IMO he is still a little nit-picky with regard to font selection, etc. Hey but the nice thing is, its easily customizable.
i think you are missing the point too... you did a review of you?, how you look on the video talking about computers?, youare not even handsome, so place the camera in FRONT of the f...ing computer so we can see whatare you talking about
Well not anymore BounceDK2! When you move your mouce over open programs in the taskbar, you get the grouped thumbnails! when you move your mouce to it, you can see the full window without even switching. It's easier to find the window you are looking for than it was in history! Don't believe me, download Win 7 in May 5 for FREE! Still don't like the new taskbar, you have the option to turn it back to the old style and turn off grouping with just a few clicks!
its like... wonder where you're my music folder minimized to? BAM! its in the same spot always. on the explore window icon. not more will windows open up in the order there open. they open and minimize in the same location always. that way you can remember where they are.... anyways I hated grouping in xp and vista but love it in windows 7 which says something.
Well if you know anything about Windows 7, it uses LESS resources than it's predecessor. Also, unlike Leopard, the Icons don't bounce and jiggle. All there is is a nice highlight as one mouses over it.
Yes, I know it uses less resources, but I've refined Vista's services and done some stripping of all the drivers and other wasteful data such as language packs. I just add drivers for hardware I have. Boots fast for me. Vista does suck out of the box but if you've done digging around the innards of Windows, you'll find that many things can be fixed with simple tweaks to greatly improve performance. With Windows 7 there are things that can't be changed to my liking.
You forgot Windows "Mistake Edition" :D

windows 7 is great. but the minus is, more registry errors in short time, you may get
200-4000 errors in a month. (thats how computers be slow) and also more program crashing and stuff like error messages.
windows xp may get 15-500 registry errors in a month.
the only bad thing abaout xp is the security problems.
so i like windows xp is better.

aidan160 2 years ago
your right I should try it but I just bought a brand new dell 2 months ago and because of vista thats why I bought my mac yesterday. But like really what all is different its all the same. Maybe you could enlighten me with what is different then. because honestly it in general is all the same.
jakemertz 2 years ago
well it automatically installed all my drivers and updates, windows 7 doesn't start in low resolution like the others, iv tested the stability with games and source hammer editor and its never crashed, the whole OS is more stable, it uses way less resources than vista, its been beta tested for about 7 month( im not sure the exact date the beta has been out) then they released the RC to test for even more bugs, and from how many tests iv done only 1 program has crashed on me, and that was IE8
aidan160 2 years ago
and it seem pretty bug less, iv seen some but i only have build 7100, its currently in build 7600, and one more thing don't ever buy a dell.
aidan160 2 years ago
and it can run on some pretty shitty hardware, with areo off
aidan160 2 years ago
why would you compare a cheap dell against an expensive computer like a mac? if you compared a PC around the same price range as your mac, I'm sure you would say they are on par
edlemur 2 years ago
Compare a more expensive HP Touchsmart to an iMac that very closely matches its price. See what happens.
DeltaPhi79 2 years ago
the HP touchsmart is shit (as are most consumer-grade OEM PCs) I made a computer with 6gb ram, nehalem processor, 24 inch 1920x1200 screen, ati 4890 graphics, aluminum case, blu-ray burner and dvd-burner, hdtv tuner, 2.1 system, laser mouse, and wave keyboard for just under $1500. not only does that decimate an iMac, it also beats the Mac Pro in many applications.
edlemur 2 years ago
Notice how you're one of the idiots comparing PRICE and not even performance. Get the same specs and see what happens. THEN it's a fair test. Jeez. Microsoft fanboys make the fight in their favor before doing anything.
DeltaPhi79 2 years ago
RIght...because having a macbook pro 17 makes me a microsoft fanboy.....
For someone as ill-informed on hardware as you that can't understand the simple concept that all my hardware is on par/exceeds that of a mac pro, I reiterated the point and mentioned how its performance compares to both an iMac and Mac Pro.
edlemur 2 years ago
So you have 4TB of hard drive space, 32GB of RAM, 2 of the fastest Xeon processors? IF not, it doesn't exceed a Mac Pro.
DeltaPhi79 2 years ago
The configuration you've listed is the 8-core Mac Pro in its most expensive configuration. I wouldn't be amazed if that price were near $10,000. for less than half of that price, you can mace a PC with the exact same specs though.
My PC outperforms the standard $2500 quad-core Mac Pro. But if you want to talk about $10,000 computers in their most expensive configurations, a PC will still win.
edlemur 2 years ago
yeah especially if you get like 4 cuda cards within for about 10t...
2.(sc)rollable task bar stuff that doesnt stain the desktop
jutubaeh 2 years ago
2.b like the start button replacement revolver flower (hippies would like it?) only within the taskbar.
3. virtual desktops (see linux for that matter)
4. special button on desktop/ bar to switch on and off desktop icons or load different sets of icons ?
5. save screen space by eliminating title bars.
put the icon-symbol and the _ [ ] X in another bar ?
6. ! ! to a bar or small rectangle minimizable "windows" ??
oh btw please vote for these ideas with thumbs up!
thanks for "watching".

try a windows Pc with 192 gigs of ram , 2 of thje fastest xeons and 2 of the best GPU's in sli with 12 terabytes of hdd space :P

IF you count supercomputers. And see? Whenever people mention PCs being better than Macs, they choose the low end Macs and choose the RIDICULOUSLY high end PCs that no average person could EVER afford.
DeltaPhi79 2 years ago
well lets see , a PC WITH SAME spec as a mac , is still about 20-40% cheaper than the mac , if u wanna match specs , dell offers much much more for the same price of a mac pro desktop , its all the same OEM hardware in the dell and mac , but if people wnna spend more on a mac , then i dont give a toss TBH , people like me r just stating that u can get much more for yer money and there r better competitors
girlsdrinkfeck 2 years ago
Actually thats exactly what YOU did. I compared my $1500 PC that had similar/better hardware than a $2500 quad core Mac Pro. If the Mac Pro is not a high-end mac I dont know what is. So there's your fair comparison.
Then you came in and tried to compare my $1500 PC to a Mac Pro configured to cost over $10,000. So there you go; enjoy your irony pie.
edlemur 2 years ago
I really Want Windows 7 but i have a Feeling when this $50 Pre-Order Stuff Stops it will go up to like $150-$200.
And who has Money and Time for that??

Man, the "dock" was came in windows before it came to mac! It was introduced in Windows 98--way before OS X. The "dock" was called "Quick Launch".
You can't argue that can you???
Ha!
Nazmus1992 2 years ago
you obviously don't know what a dock is mate
when you click on quick launch your program still pops up in the task bar. Quick launch is not a dock and obviously you don't know what a dock is because you have never used one.
quick launch in windows is just short cuts and nothing else a Mac OS dock is so much more.
so at this point you have proved nothing and every PC and mac user is just laughing at you.
and you have just opened your self up for a great argument with out even trying.
pkerry12 2 years ago

Why do Mac and Linux users have to make dumb comments and bash all the time? They really must be pretty bored with their own OS.

New features to Windows Explorer too?
jkid54321 2 years ago
to my knowledge it was rewritten from the ground up for speed.

Oh wow, Chris Pirillo talking positive about Windows?
MikeMayhem1234 2 years ago 2
Chris has never been a Windows hater. In a sense he owes the start of his career to Microsoft. He does however pretty much hate Vista. So much so that it caused him to switch to OS X. He does acknowledge the fact that MS is making steps in the right direction as is evident by this video... IMO he is still a little nit-picky with regard to font selection, etc. Hey but the nice thing is, its easily customizable.

I absolutely hate grouping in the taskbar, it takes forever to find the stuff you minimized.
BounceDK2 2 years ago
Well not anymore BounceDK2! When you move your mouce over open programs in the taskbar, you get the grouped thumbnails! when you move your mouce to it, you can see the full window without even switching. It's easier to find the window you are looking for than it was in history! Don't believe me, download Win 7 in May 5 for FREE! Still don't like the new taskbar, you have the option to turn it back to the old style and turn off grouping with just a few clicks!
Nazmus1992 2 years ago
very true.
its like... wonder where you're my music folder minimized to? BAM! its in the same spot always. on the explore window icon. not more will windows open up in the order there open. they open and minimize in the same location always. that way you can remember where they are.... anyways I hated grouping in xp and vista but love it in windows 7 which says something.
turgo82 2 years ago
Couldn't care less about the task bar. All I see are more resource hogging animations. Chris, I'm starting to think you're a gimmick lover.
Snapscape 2 years ago
Well if you know anything about Windows 7, it uses LESS resources than it's predecessor. Also, unlike Leopard, the Icons don't bounce and jiggle. All there is is a nice highlight as one mouses over it.
jwd0808 2 years ago
Yes, I know it uses less resources, but I've refined Vista's services and done some stripping of all the drivers and other wasteful data such as language packs. I just add drivers for hardware I have. Boots fast for me. Vista does suck out of the box but if you've done digging around the innards of Windows, you'll find that many things can be fixed with simple tweaks to greatly improve performance. With Windows 7 there are things that can't be changed to my liking.
