... question... I'm running the Nova through a Suhr Badger 18 ... that has a serial loop effect setup. However; I can only get the Nova to work by running cable from Nova to normal guitar jack on the front of the amp. I think i may be using the wrong type of cable for the serial loop... do I need to use some kind of special stereo cable? I just can't seem to get the serial loop to work with my normal guitar cables...
What midi pedal would control this? What can the midi do exactly...? I've never used midi on an effects pedal before. Also, how many presets can be stored?
can you use the overdrives on this unit ontop of your amps distortion? I have a tube amp and so would only use the overdrives like i would a tube screamer. Can i do this with this pedal?
I want to use it's mod , delay , compreeer and eq, , and use my own dist pedal..so i need to plug it's to my amp fx loop and plug my pedal chain in to this Nova ? any selection in the Nova to control weather my dist pedal or the mod of nova run first ??
because i know the compresser should run in first and the mod / delay should in last , how can I do it ? thanks
Wow, great demo vid. Thanks...I've always been a 'purist' for tone, even though the punters couldn't give a toss. I'm so over having many different pedals, and Nova System looks perfick for the quick grab-and-run gigs. Cheers from Oz. John
I've noticed that this unit has a drive and a line input, and stereo outputs.. i want to run my guitarsignal like this: Guitar - drive input - output - amp - line input - output.. This may seem cray at first sight, but what i want is the drive section to be ahead of the amp so i can use both the amps and the units drive signals. is this possible?
As I'm pretty happy with the dirty channel on my amp, I assume I'd run this through the effects loop for best results from all the other effects.
My question is what about presets? Would you recommend editing them all to remove the drive effect or just leave them? I've never run a drive pedal in my effects loop so don't know how it'll effect the signal.
Seems like they should have done two outputs on this. One for preamp, the other for effects loop...
If you are happy with the dirty channel on your amp i would edit the presets and use the delays modulations and reverbs through the loop. Distortions don't sound great after the preamp and are best placed before to add more gain.
So this is basically almost all analog pedals put into 1... but will it work with my amp? my amp is a peavy valve king 112 and I got a foot switcher between clean and lead chanels... I might add it in on an effects loop but I dont know... I'm considering buying this or the rp 1000... If u get this...then my set up will be guitar ---> nova system ----> Cry Baby Wah ----> Amp with a footswitcher between clean and lead.... Would that work?
How would this amp do set in front of an Orange Tiny Terror? It doesnt have an effects loop, so I'd have to run it before the preamp. My Orange is set up for overdrive tones and i roll back on the neck for semi-cleans. I see myself using the delays, reverb, and modulation, and maybe an overdrive with a slight mid cut for heavier stuff. How do you think this would do? Any opinions? Thanks!
@jacobtheguitarfreak The effects work best after the distortion but will still sound great through your amp, its all about the sound that your happy with. You can set the overdrive on the unit to push your amp or tweak the EQ to give you a different sound completely.
@WaldebeatZ Yes, for the money it is great, it sounds like a series of stomp boxes in one unit. if you want to retain the sound of your amp and add some quality effects then this is ideal.
@pedaltoneshop thanks , i heard about that you dont need a amp to record because there is an effect which simulated the recording with a amp (called speaker sim) is that true ? and the most important question have that good quality because i dont have a good amp because of the neighbors ....
@WaldebeatZ Hello, yes there is a speaker emulation setting on the unit. The effects are high quality and sound like a series of great sounding stomp boxes.
You can use this unit between the pre amp and power amp however you wouldn't be able to use the drive, it would work but is designed to go into the front of the amp which is where you will get the best results.
I am very curious of this unit? I use a USA Fender and Gibson guitar with a tube amp! so no need to worry about quailty of stuff there :) I just get abit tired of carrying pedals! and boards, cables about all the time! would be nice to just have one unit! you just plug in!! the analog overdrive section is what has caught my eye!! unlike those crappy Line 6, Zoom and Boss units that have digital distortion that sounds crap!
The Nova does not have an effects loop. This means that if you run it straight in to the front end of your amp you cannot use the time based effects with the OD/Dist channel of your amp. If it had an effects loop you could use the 4 cable method and use the lead channel of your amp with the time based effects. If you run the NOVA in to the amp effects loop you cannot use the Nova DRIVE circuit.
@kennyp54 So that means I would have to use the drive of the Nova if I plug it in the front end of the amp? and if I run it through the amp effects loop, I would need a footswitch to use the Dist channel of the amp?
Sorry if I ask too much, I don't quite understand how this works and I'm about to get a Nova Drive.
Yes. If you use the Nova in the effects loop of your amp you would NOT use the dist/od of the Nova. This is only an issue if you have a channel switching amp and want to use the delays, etc. of the nova with lead channel of your amp. Then it has to go in the effects loop of your amp. If you use the nova straight in to the front end of the amp and use the dist/od of the nova, no problem....your delays, etc. will not work right with your lead channel.
I like more agressive music and i own a 2 channel dual rec. Can you use the nova systems overdrive to push the tubes just like a maxon or ibanez tube screamer?
this doesnt do amp modeling. Its for people who have a good amp but need high quality effects to add to it. Same thing for the Line 6 M13. The distortions on both are....meh. But the effects are great. I'd say the Nova has better sound, but the Line 6 has the more important features..like allowing '4 cable method' and also the scenes thing is hugely important as well. M13 is more flexible and has a wah, the nova has no wah..grrr.
I've been auditioning one of these for a couple of days. The effect quality is very high and it's very configurable, with regards to mix levels for all effects, input levels, etc. There is no speaker emulation like a Pod would have, and there is no headphone out, but it has balanced stereo 1/4" outs. It is easy to bypass the built-in drive if you prefer your amp's or pedal's distortion. TC's dual delay and chorus make a fantastic Edge (U2) clone. Tough metal body. Takes a computer power cable!
just use an amp and stick this in the effects loop (which will bypass the nova systems od/dist). Never believe any effects unit can replace a good ol' tube amp. They are only meant as supplementary tools.
Just a quick question, how would you connect a pair of headphones to the Nova System as there are only one pair of balanced 1/4" Main outputs on the back and no Headphones output?
im not a fan of pedal distortion at all. i really like pre-set amp distortion so can you turn off the distortion completley with out running it through the fx loop?
Yes you can by-pass the distortion on the unit, however, if you are using the pre amp distortion and not the one on the nova system, reverb's, delays and modulations often suit being in the effects loop.
You can run the unit in front of the amp and only use preamp distortion if you would like too, its all a personal preference.
I play this through a Les Paul, into an Orange tube amp. I compared it to a Boss GT10 and the Line6 M13. There is a LOT to explore in the menus and this is a very difficult pedal to set up. but its sound beats boss and line6. I wanted the Orange sound i paid for, not amp models, synths or speaker sims, and this did not color my sound, as you add effects you can hear your tone preserved. pro stuff. if you want crazy sounds and you want your amp to sound like something else, this isn't for you.
If you play pretty good gear, i would definitely advice to get a nova system. With less good equipment, a modelling system would be a better thing. In the Moment, that you buy an Amp with character, first thing you do is sell the crappy modelling things.
There are 2 ways to access patches on the nova system. The first allows you turn the effects on and off at any time. To change patch you must hold the pedal down more than 0.5sec.
The second gives you 3 patches on the bottom row (instantly) and lets you select mod delay boost and tap tempo.
If you use a suitable expression pedal you can control the volume. It's placed after the compressor so you will be fine.
Question From StefanpriceUK :Can you switch the effects on and off when in a patch, older multi effects you either use manual mode (like seperate stomp box style) or programme which is patches and you can't stomp effects in and out.
Also How can I use my volume pedal AFTER the comp, I don't want to violin INTO compression as the compressor will try to normalise the swell and defeat the object.
There is no delay in switching presets and no volume changes (unless your using the boost function), we have had several customers who use this unit live with no issues at all.
hey thanks for the review. i've read somewhere that there's a delay of about half a second after kicking a switch before the system actually changes the preset. and that, simultaneously, there's also a slight increase in volume which then decreases again. is this true? half a second for switching is long, especially for live use.
do you run this on the effects loop or just infront of the amp? this may be an issue for me cause i would use od stuff infront and the other effects like delay or modulation on the loop, or are you able to run this unit separately like im saying (some effects on the loop and other infront of the amp)?
this unit only is designed to go in front of the amp however if your not using the drive on it you could use it in the loop,
you could use your other od's in front of the nova system and then go straight into a clean amp,
if you are wanting to use the amps lead channel then the Line 6 M13 allows you to put the modulations and delays through the loop and use all of the od sounds on the unit in front of the amp.
from the demos on youtube, i would say that the TC makes much better sound then Line 6 but i didn´t hear both in real live comparison.
By myself i really miss a looper and a screamer in the TC nova system, that would make it a really first choice. That would be also very nice if they would make a option for analog delay while running in the send mode thru the stereo amp. Than one could get along with only one unit.
the boost function is a clean volume boost which is programable within the unit and is ideal for lead lines. the boost works best when used with the onboard drive sound but will boost the front end of a hi-gain amp as well as any other clean boost pedal.
patch changes are instant in the patch mode. there is no delay between patches and there isn't really a reason for the gap other than the patches are all quiet different and we wanted to separate them.
So does Nova system have an EQ? If so does it include gain? You said it was a clean amp sound right? Then in the video you changed a patch and it was a dirty sound but the Boost and Drive were not engaged for that patch. Where was the distortion coming from?
you can run the Nova System in two modes, one being the stomp box mode (at the beginning of the clip) and in patch change mode. In the patch change mode compression, drive and reverb are preset so only the patch number that your accessing is illuminated. so at 3:03 the drive is engaged but the unit is accessing patch number one.
you can then still use modulation, delay, boost and pitch change as stomp boxes.
Thanks a lot man. I really want one of these. Another question. I'm gonna get a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier solo head. Can I use the Nova to combined presets and channel switching. Like can I have a dry clean setting and a clean setting with pitch shifting, delay and reverb and then switch between the two via patch switching? Dunno if you know what I mean. I wanna incorporate a channel into a patch. Can I do that?
I'm afraid the Nova System doesn't have relays, so you can't use it for channel switching. To do that, you would need to buy a midi to relay box. The Nova System will send out midi commands that can make the box change channels on the amp. The Amp Gizmo from RJM music will do exactly what you need.

Also How can I use my volume pedal AFTER the comp, I don't want to violin INTO compression as the compressor will try to normalise the swell and defeat the object.

Can u put the Nova in front of the amp and use youre own amps overdrive ?
jackedwards94 2 years ago
sure
Whizzkitt 2 years ago
If you wanna use the effects and the overdrive of your amp, you should put the nova in the fx loop. Otherwise you overdrive the effects.

What amp are you using with the Nova or what amp do you recommend?

We used a Marshall TSL 602 solidly built and sounds great with pedals

There is no delay in switching presets and no volume changes (unless your using the boost function), we have had several customers who use this unit live with no issues at all.
pedaltoneshop 2 years ago
can you make the presets louder or softer (when switching them) if you want it?

hey thanks for the review. i've read somewhere that there's a delay of about half a second after kicking a switch before the system actually changes the preset. and that, simultaneously, there's also a slight increase in volume which then decreases again. is this true? half a second for switching is long, especially for live use.
best & thanks

do you run this on the effects loop or just infront of the amp? this may be an issue for me cause i would use od stuff infront and the other effects like delay or modulation on the loop, or are you able to run this unit separately like im saying (some effects on the loop and other infront of the amp)?
iociocioc 2 years ago
this unit only is designed to go in front of the amp however if your not using the drive on it you could use it in the loop,
you could use your other od's in front of the nova system and then go straight into a clean amp,
if you are wanting to use the amps lead channel then the Line 6 M13 allows you to put the modulations and delays through the loop and use all of the od sounds on the unit in front of the amp.

how much does this thing weight?

How do the sound quality of the effects in the Line 6 M13 and TC nova system compare?
spitesuicide19 2 years ago
from the demos on youtube, i would say that the TC makes much better sound then Line 6 but i didn´t hear both in real live comparison.
By myself i really miss a looper and a screamer in the TC nova system, that would make it a really first choice. That would be also very nice if they would make a option for analog delay while running in the send mode thru the stereo amp. Than one could get along with only one unit.
MaciliasOnStage 2 years ago
yeah....TC is WAY better sounding than Line 6

I like the preset at 3:00. Any chance you remember what that was?

can you turn off the annoying flashing tap light?

How well does the Boost function work for increasing volume for lead lines? And does it still increase volume in front of a high gain amp? Thanks.
jisham01 2 years ago
the boost function is a clean volume boost which is programable within the unit and is ideal for lead lines. the boost works best when used with the onboard drive sound but will boost the front end of a hi-gain amp as well as any other clean boost pedal.

can u stack both overdrive and distortion at the same time ??
sam7es 2 years ago
no.
yayayair 2 years ago
is there a reason why you wait a sec before playin every new patch?
is the patch switching not instant?
yayayair 2 years ago
patch changes are instant in the patch mode. there is no delay between patches and there isn't really a reason for the gap other than the patches are all quiet different and we wanted to separate them.
pedaltoneshop 2 years ago
What kind of Amp are u using ??
sam7es 2 years ago
The amp is a Marshall TSL on the clean channel.
pedaltoneshop 2 years ago
So does Nova system have an EQ? If so does it include gain? You said it was a clean amp sound right? Then in the video you changed a patch and it was a dirty sound but the Boost and Drive were not engaged for that patch. Where was the distortion coming from?
Thanks,
illusionfreak.

Hello illusionfreak,
yes the Nova System has an EQ section.
you can run the Nova System in two modes, one being the stomp box mode (at the beginning of the clip) and in patch change mode. In the patch change mode compression, drive and reverb are preset so only the patch number that your accessing is illuminated. so at 3:03 the drive is engaged but the unit is accessing patch number one.
you can then still use modulation, delay, boost and pitch change as stomp boxes.
Thanks,
Charles.

Can I do that?
illusionfreak 2 years ago
Hiya,
I'm afraid the Nova System doesn't have relays, so you can't use it for channel switching. To do that, you would need to buy a midi to relay box. The Nova System will send out midi commands that can make the box change channels on the amp. The Amp Gizmo from RJM music will do exactly what you need.
Best wishes,
Joey @ TC

great sound thanks dude
dav24642 2 years ago
are you plugged in stereo? and did you plug it into the fx loop of your amp or you plugged it in front of it like a normal stompbox?
dav24642 2 years ago
we just plugged straight into the front end of the amp and ran the unit in mono.
