  • Beautiful song and eloquently preformed by an amazing lady.

  • @ mtheaney -- That was precisely my point. His only reasonable defense is insanity.

  • No she doesn't possess the passion and ability to make a song such as this worth more then one listen, sad but MF is best known as Micks' man squeeze for a few years. Musical she aint!

  • @nat00ben06 -- the song is nothing more than a lame minor scale riff. I like Marianne Faithfull's recordings of Brecht/Weill songs, and I think the "20th Century Blues" CD contains her best material.

  • @roundtheblock1 Oh ok, thanks for comment to my comment it was very informative and taught me something I was unaware of. I think though her best material is what's under her clothing.

  • Braving the future with an ill-fitting jacket. Many people have been there.

  • she is so awesome, its a shame when young people dont even know who she is....

  • I had heard this song by another singer, but never knew who or what it was. Now that I know it was by Cat Stevens, I hereby consign it to the bottomless pit.

  • @roundtheblock1 That's Mr. Islam to you.

  • I don't understand, it seems like the tracking is off or something, the timing is off but from such a consummate performer that doesn't make sense, but it's not just dragging it's all over so...I really don't get it. I love her voice, and one of my favorite songs, I was so excited to see that she'd done it but...I just don't get it.

And she always was/is beautiful, even through the bad 80's make up, which I find annoying. Love the leather!

  • Why not show her boobs... She is beautiful and always has been...

  • I never heard Marianne's cover before. It's beautiful. Cat's original always reminded me of a woman friend who died of loneliness; a sad song for a sad person. Marianne captures the pain of emptiness I watched my friend endure.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • Because they're beautiful !

  • Sorry but, she's giving my name a bad Name....wash and give it up, please I'm sorry

  • WLF....

  • Man, this is just incredible. Amazing.

  • To be fair yon only get a glimpse of her boobs, its not like you can see her nipples is it.........The song is lovely......enjoy it hunny x

  • @saffron1999 yes ure right there mate to be fair, marianne was a very sexy lady in my younger days, lovely lady.

  • the record producer thought it would sell and it was david bailily that took the photo top photographer at the time

  • What a beautiful version.

Not quite Cat/Yusef, but stunningly beautiful anyway

  • @garyorient Yusuf not Yusef;-)

  • re the Pic: Marianne had bad "handlers". She was always exquistely beautiful. At some point, ppl thought rough, cheap & ugly was chic. The beauty and talent and soul have always shined through. Elvis, unfortunately died overweight and in tacky jumpsuits. Who cares? Talent survives all odds. Now, it's ALL Image and no Talent. Go figure. Just listen to the sounds. Images will flow through you.

  • I like the way she sang this - as if she's a confidante of Lisa's. Later on she recorded Jessi Colter's 'I'm Not Lisa'!

  • God awful version..

  • Why does she need to show her boobs ?

  • @thecrazydonut It is just one of many pictures of her that I like from the early eighties, her punk era! Although her most desperate era it was also her most creative. Broken English, Dangerous Acquaintances and A Childs Adventure are masterpieces.. This recording however is from the mid '70's

  • @thecrazydonut CAUSE SHE HAS NICE BOOBS!

  • @thecrazydonut Because they are soooooooo nice!

  • @code2high Fair enough

  • @thecrazydonut so what! LMAO

  • @thecrazydonut because they are perfect!

  • @thecrazydonut Who cares why she shows her boobs! I wish she could just fully expose those beautiful utters!

  • @thecrazydonut you're right! her face is so nice.

    A bad fantasy

  • @thecrazydonut Because they're great. lol

  • @thecrazydonut when were you born??

  • @reedsntools 87 why ? Does it mean that i'm too young to enjoy women showing their boobs ? I'm pretty surprise to see all the answers about that post.

  • @thecrazydonut no I thought too old, why the fuzz about the boobs?

  • @thecrazydonut They're a part of her. Why not? They're reminders of her youth, when no one (well, not so many) would have questioned her showing them off if she felt like it. I think she's as beautiful as ever, albeit 40 years older...

  • @thecrazydonut -- Why shouldn't she show them? I have always liked her attitude.

  • @thecrazydonut coz shes a woman - otherwise you may not notice

  • nice cover and nice big tits !

  • @nootaramus Agreed...!!!

  • Je t'attendrai...

  • Marianne Faithfull - what a lovely voice. It's been years since I heard her sing. What a treat!

  • Cat is best

  • GÉANT !!!

  • I love this version. She said in her book that "A Child's Adventure" was her most desperate record. 22 albums under her belt. Love her.

  • lovely voice singing beautifully....but this pic looks UGLY

  • you all need to check out Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam version! B.E.UTIFUL!!!!

  • @kayleeANDlydia Too true.

  • Molto bella....

  • Lovely MARIANNE...lovely voices...

she is charming ...yesterday & forever....

  • This is ok, but check out John Gawkowski's version of Sad Lisa. It is awesome and brought me to tears!

  • This is a good cover. it closely follows Cat's original (which was perfection anyway) I like the double bass sounding instrument towards the end what is it?

  • @rosalynrosepetal Thanks Rosa lol Oh now i know nothing is WRONG with my BASS, I am in a Sound Studio and have been arranging the Sound boards up and down trying to figure out what was wrong with my BASS~! So thank you! Lol : ) Donny

  • Good song sung beautifullly - I like the open jacket she is still attractive now 2010

  • this picture is from 1983. it was published in Rolling Stone mag when "A Child's Adventure" was released. cool song :)

  • desertshore< Thanks for that info about Rolling Stone Mag. There are other pics in this sequence which I have unfortunately lost! After all this time it is still one of my fav pics.

  • lovely

  • i like it .. but id rather not look at her boobs lol :p so i scroll down to the comments so i can just listen to the song witout being boobarded

  • @maritree The same with me. Lolz

  • No. Nonononononononono. No.

  • Wish you would sing some of my songs....Love it...

    Cindy Rose Boyd

  • I like both the original and this version though they're different.

I don't understand why so much hateful and spiteful comments. Nor do I understand those saying: "if you don't like it, don't listen and move on".

To know whether I like a song I have to listen to it and then I can post a comment if I wish too, positive or negative.

At any rate this version is pleasing to the ear and Ms Faithful has a nice voice.

  • I don't see anything wrong with this version, I like it.

  • I'll give you a hint as to what may annoy many people about this version: she's purposely behind the beat, but in a "too-obvious" way, if you get what I'm saying. It just sounds bad and lazy when she overdoes it.

  • enjoying the polarity of comments...clearly a sign she`s doing something right.

  • I like it.

  • If you don't like it, don't watch it. if your comment has nothing to do with the song, don't make it. If you think you know it all because you are involved with the music industry then it's not Lisa who's sad but your life. Marianne is a very special singer and if you can't appreciate her voice please move on to another singer but don't be rude.

  • I LIKE it.. it's true to the original, and at least it's not full of freakin' dance music or RAP!

  • Hi PJ, thanks for your gentle advices - but when I look at all the crap (and I'm expressing myself very kindly) which is sold as 'World Acts' on today's stages and broadcast stations, I still prefer to trust my own ears.

  • @frittenfred -- The "World" is too much with us, late and soon. But "World Music" is a commercial marketing category, or bin, like any other. Same goes for "Alternative" -- even though the name suggests that it is pitched to people who perhaps like to think of themselves as beyond categorization. Been there, done that, wore the T-shirt.

  • Shut the hell up... asshole... unbelievable.

  • Some comments I cannot quite understand - one can of course dislike this version - but in my ears it is at least technically perfect. And I think it also reflects very well the idea Cat Stevens might have had when he wrote this song.

And yet something for those complaining about Mrs Faithfull's breast: go and have a chat with your therapist about that; this will sure be helpful.

  • I love this song, but she sings it very ugly... I don´t like it

  • good songs doesn't mean anyone can perform it right...I guess now william Dafoe can sing too

  • lol.. couldn't agree more!

  • Dear, you probably don't know what happened to Lisa after this song...She got sadder and sadder....now she is a monk in the Himalayas Mountains she doesn't want to hear songs no more :)

  • I'm sorry, but it's awefull...

  • thanks for fucking up a classic

  • yuck.

  • Excellent voice! nicely sung with feelings!

  • * thank you

  • scary breasts lol

  • i love everything about marianne's version of this song, except for the photo in this video...sorry...

  • I like this image because of it's rarity. It is no longer on any of the Internet image bureau sites. Also the Bluebird/ swallow tattoo on her left hand, which is often disguised on many photos. I would love to know who the photographer was, there were a few in this series I believe from the early eighties.

  • very cool, lot feeling, love your voice,

    great job.

  • who what is this! oh my God! nooo no this is a nightmare! CUT!!!!!!!!

BRING IN CAT STEVENS PLEASE. No one does it better

  • Right ON!!!!!!!

  • this is straight up horrible

  • beautiful tune!!!!

  • yeah Rich Kid Blues was the album she made in 1971 in the midst of living in slumber on a bomb site in Soho as a herion addict. Apparently a record producer she knew came to find her living on the streets and urged her to record it. Although done on a shoestring budget and never actually finished, the album never got released until 1985! you can hear the wear and tear on her voice too which what she went through at the time. Just a few years previous she was a soprano. Great song though!

  • rich kid blues, the album that this comes from (recorded in the early 70s but releases wayyyy later) is one of her best

  • A midget with boobies?

  • DemonicWeb,

I'm sorry, no offense to the maker of this video, Marianne Faithfull or the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens, but

I couldn't help but laugh at your warped but keen observation. Then again, I'm always catching heat for bursting into laughter at funerals and during business meetings - usually from something that happened two weeks ago popping into my head. So go figure.

  • What album is it on?

  • It is on the CD "True"

  • @Nefarioso This song was recorded for 'Rich Kid Blues' originally. That album was never released until the late 90s I believe. Then it got rereleased in a couple of different versions including 'True'. I strongly recommend reading Marianne's first autobiography to get lots of great information about all kinds of stuff including all her early work. Peace

  • this is the only cover I know which is better than the original song

  • this is one of her best and most overlooked recordings

  • beautiful song!! i love marianne
