For those of you wondering what's at the end of the movie, with old videos the tape was large and often frayed at the ends. As such, as it wound down to its final bits the loose end would start flapping around. In order to compensate for this, the beginning and end of tapes were bookended with random letters in order to ensure that nothing important was lost. This isn't the "worst ending ever," just a joke that's lost on modern viewers.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me, but my recollection of seeing "Grail" in the theater was that the screen simply blacked out at the very end (when the cop blocks the camera lens with his hand), and that was it - no film running out of the projector, and definitely no repeat of the opening credits, which is what they do whenever they show the movie on TV.

I thought it was a BRILLIANT ending.
