@derekaggs11 BULL! The SQ80 though newer than the ESQ-1 was inferior to the ESQ-1. A friend of mine bought an SQ80 because he loved my ESQ-1 and he still pined for my ESQ afterwards.I am someone who was with Ensoniq from the jump. I bought the Mirage a few months after it came out. Then the ESQ-1, followed by the ASR10. Then they went belly up. No bugs in the ESQ-1.
@openeyes691 Thinking back..the SQ80's main "problem" was they changed the keyboard to include aftertouch...which the ESQ didn't have...however the way they did it affected the keyboard action so that it bottomed out too soon which annoyed the heck out of "piano players". Otherwise the synth engine was pretty much still the same...though it sounded thinner to me. The SQ80 also added a floppy drive were the ESQ-1 had none. Data had to be saved via audio tape or cartridge. Get both!

I wish I had the space for one of these. Is the rack version any good?
velomicro 3 years ago
I believe the rack is exactly the same..sans keyboard. The early Ensoniqs are notoriously 'finicky' (as in needing service), so be warned.

It´s called ESQ-m and it´s exactly the same without keyboard and sequencer.

When Ensoniq released the SQ-80 they had ironed out many of the bugs of the ESQ-1 and ESQ-m. I would recommend an SQ-80.

bugs? where? my 22 years old ESQ-1 is rock solid! never crashes.

I'd love to hear the second one as a full track... great demonstrations. Makes me want an ESQ-1 of my own even more!

100% ESQ-1? Even the effects?
Man, this keyboard has no more secrets for you! Very nice work. I'm very impressed by Ensoniq's sequencers capacity... Keep the good work!
