beautiful song....I luv both versions of stones and gfr are but my God....GFR ROCKS!!!!!!! I'm still having goosebumps after hearing them 40 years ago!!!! \m/
thanks for this vid .What a brilliant band .Got the album Survival brought back from the States when I was 11,years old. no body had it in the Uk then It still Rocks now..What a tight band, haunting vocals at the start, mindblowing .
I think this is the best version of Grand Funk's version I've heard yet (including other live versions), and possibly the best version of this song ever.
Thanks JohnInFunk! Another very cool obscure video from the best rock band ever, GFR!!
Now, I really like the Rolling Stones, but didn't GFR just put some kick ass move into that song or what? Makes me wonder what they would have done to The Salt of the Earth...I can only imagine...lol
Not to rankle any Stones fans, but I always thought the Caught in the Act version of this tune blew Mick and the boys away. This original trio reunion was a hopeful time, but for me it was even more disappointing when the 1980's GFR reunion fell to pieces after making some of their best music.
Just a comment here, To me Mark is an excellent solo artist no doubt he is. However seems like to me he really gels when he was with Don and Mel. Just an opinion its sad these guys are no more.
I really have to agree with you..sadly it's true. These guys were the best - TOGETHER! It's a thing called "chemistry." They sure had it! But yeah. Mark is a great performer anytime and everytime.
It is lasting forever ForReelFunk!! Just close your eyes like I do everyday and you can still see it. They're not really there, they can't be everywhere doing everything for everybody. Everybody can't get what they want but, I can still see it. Thay are there! : ) < Lifted from the kids in "I an Feel Him in the Morning"...lol, as if you didn't know.
Mark Farner doing with one guitar (more or less) what Stones did with two. And the vocals, too. That's the thing here.

critic's never were good to these guys for some strange reason so they had to promote themselves and i mite add they did a pretty good job.

Too bad that Don and Mel are more about the glitz - this is vintage GFR - VISCERAL, that's what they were all about!

I never cared for Don's voice too much, but LOVE Mark's & he still sounds just as good today as he did 40 years ago.

There's The Who. There's Grand Funk Railroad. Then, there's "just bands." Cheers.
