Mickey this showed me several things. I'm always concerned with pick angles on the finger- this shows yours- not too radical, I think right hand techniques are not given good time- this was helpful. (I am guilty of a bad habit of anchoring my rt hand so I can bounce on the bridge- it's a bad habit I'lll work on) Thanks Bob
Great Lessons Mickie,I am an old lap steel player just starting to play a D-10(GFI)& have problems picking between the strings,I think because of the closer string spacing -Any suggestions of rt hand technique(positions)& picking. Maybe forming&fitting the picks correctly---Thanks James
Thanks for the lesson. With pick blocking, the fingerpicks block the notes that are picked with the fingerpicks, but what about the notes picked with the thumb pick? Does pick blocking mean you use the thumb to block notes picked with the thumb pick? Or do you palm block the notes picked using the thumb and use the fingerpicks to block the notes blocked with the fingerpicks. Sorry for the all the questions, but I want to really woodshed this stuff and want to be sure I understand it first.
Oh my goodness Mickey. You've hit the nail right on the head for me. Everything you have just said in seven minutes makes so much sense and puts things into complete perspective for me. I just wanted to thank you, for over the past 5 months I have been learning from your videos and now I have a daily structured rehearsal based on your tutorials.Living in Melbourne Australia there are no steel guitar tutors available. So thank you for you lessons, you both inspire and motivate me. Cheers marty
thanks, another great lesson for a newbie such as myself. I just got a guitar 12 days ago, a BMI s10. Your lessons have gotten me far fast. Your a great teacher.
how do you pick block without getting a nasty vibration click from the string? I have not been able to do this with my lap steel....

Fantastic lesson. This is exactly the information I've been looking for. I knew that there had to be some special magic going on with the right hand.

Now that is probably your best lesson yet. I know you've used the term pick blocking in some previous lessons, but this one really explains it.
