Its taken me about 2 years but I can understand and speak above basic japanese, and I can read and write in kana. Its hard work, but SOOO worth it! Especially when you want to import Japanese games! :D
@MakoChanx I have yes. I've been able to get the gist of some parts of conversation but haven't had the time to properly the language. As for self study...I only managed to get past greetings ^_^;;

The primary problem i have with the new FF games is the lack of freedom. In these new ones they are either MMOs that show to consistently fail or are straightforward story play. Example:
FFVII: minigames, grinding for golden chocobo, secret characters to gain, secret sidequests, three discs worth of story
FF above X-2 that are not MMO: straight story, possible side quests, not much replay value... gg
Microshit has ruined the HD gaming generation with their lame ass XBROKE DVD player. This game should have been a 2 to 3 BLU-RAY DISC game, but NO... M$ forced the game to be dumbed down to fit on 3 dvd, any more discs then they'd have to dumb down the graphics port to XBROKE and make it look like a PS1 game. That's reason it was so linear and puny compared to the typical majestic FF games of the past.
I've nosed around through comments, and I've noticed people asking why you can't explore towns and stuff. Well first of all, your Pulse l'Cie, enemies of Cocoon. You can't just walk freely in towns and go to a shopkeeper and say 'HAII LEMME BUY A POTION'. If you did walk into the town imediately PSICOM will br on your case, battling you and shooting at you. I'm just going to comment on what people are arguing a out. Some people complain about that there's no towns and it's so straightforward. But when you play, don't you remember that the characters are FUGITIVES? If you're running for your life, there's no time to go into a town and buy lotion. That's also probably the reason the game's so straightforward. Most fugitives AREN'T going to wander towns. If they did, the characters would've been executed by the fifth chapter.
@zeldafan1997 I'll put in a few of my opinions. I found most of the music to be very memorable. Like how "Dust To Dust in Oerba really fit the feelings the two probably had. And the Final Boss themes were great. The boss fights posed great challenges, I found each character's story to be deep(Aside from Snow; I hated him), and the missions have been a great way to pass the time.
In all, this game brought me to love the final fantasy series. But this is my opinion. Everyone has their's. :)
u no in the movies whenever someone found that bad dog and at first hated it or told it to go away but then they fell in love w/it and were glad they kept it or met it or when the person has to take care of some kids and at first hate em but then found out how cool they are...thats how this game was

Maybe I would've enjoyed this game x1000 better if it had english subs instead of dubs, just ruined it for me. Just didn't like the linear gameplay, no towns, buying weapons from savepoints instead of real shops, meh, but still a good game. Peeps like FF7 so much because it had so much, Golden Saucer, towns, amazing stories, underwater exploration, phoenix mini-battle etc etc etcx100. I just don't like kids in the midst of war, makes it seem...childish and there stupid reactions don't help.

dont listen to darkcoremaster....there are side quests during chapter 11, which is not hard to get to because the chapters are short and chapter 11 is HUUUUUGE. there are sidequests there, there are shops where you buy weapons, accessories, magic upgrades, etc. and even after the game you can free roam and do everything you want because there are TONS of side-quests and mini games (such as chocobo treasure hunt). take this from a player with the collectors edition guide not 1 who listens 2 othrs
Sure, there are side-quests, but these involve more of the samey battles. You just walk to a designated location, kill a monster, and rinse and repeat. There's no variation. I would have liked a bit more diversity rather than being endlessly slapped in the face with battles. In FFX there was the Blitzball mini-game and a variety of side-missions, in FFVII there was the awesome Gold Saucer. Compared to the older games FFXIII's side-quests and mini-games are pants.

DO NOT buy this one. this one is far far worse than FF12 which was already a shithole game. i've been a big FF fan for years but after FF10 the whole thing went downhill. FF13 description: NO SHOPS/NO TOWNS/ NO NPC'S/ NO WORLD MAP/ NO NOTHING. this is Sad. gameplay is VERY linear. only 1 way to walk to, forward. NO SIDEQUESTS/MINIGAMES. sure, nice graph's, nice voice acting, nice movies. but thats really it people. just an interactive movie. this game made me cry, so horrible

If you were a real devotee to the FF series, the fact that there arent any shops or npc's in the BEGINING of the game, you would get around that, and look at how much better the battle system is than anything else with the pardigm shifts and the different roles. You'd praise the fact that the leveling system is closer to the sphere grid than the license board... but i doubt you even got far enough to use crystarium...

Wow what an awesome game. Just played the first couple of hours and so far so good! I have some clips on my channel of the game play. The combat is odd at first but you'll get use to it after a few battles.

I simply stated that the game had a confusing storyline, but it's probably from the lack of... ANYTHING useful in the trailer. Yes, I understand Japanese, so don't go google translating on me. Japanese use English letters because it's part of a system for us to understand. Each symbol spells out 1, 2, or 3 letters we can understand as one syllable and we have an easier time of looking it up in a dictionary. Hiragana and katakana are part of this. Check them out.
But dude, they are spelled in English? I don't see anyone in an English speaking country spelling things in Japanese characters in some communicative purpose. I just find it weird how not everything is spelled in Japanese, some English WORDS are used. I'm thinking they think the words look cool?

I havnt played through all of 10 yet...i completed 7 and crisis core and fuckin loved them! they were great...on FFX i am at the part just after i have been washed up on the beach so not very far at all...but i do love the game so far...it seems so fresh and fun...and the battle theme...WOW...im hoping to play 8 & 9 when they put then up on PSN

My point was that that having to switch discs is no big deal. How does that make the 360 version any worse the PS3 version? It didn't hurt the good 'ole RPGs on the PS1.

Can some one plz tell me why im not happy about this game. I was really excited with ffx and ff8,7,9 and why i dont fell the same with this game. Im trying so hard to like it
squall was a lonewolf dick head, cloud was quite, smart ass, tidus was the happy go lucky guy. I never played 9. Pluss each character looked different, color wise based on cloths and crazy hair styles that made them stick out alot. I see these characters as meh, because they dont have no wacky hair style, they dont wear any colors that make them stick out, and their personality's feel all to much the same.
I wish I could understand japanese....I wish there was an option to keep the jap voices and have subtitles in the game...

@FifteenPens you're right, i'm not that old. but i prefer paying that much for the first gen ps3 because i have a shitload more options. not just playing ps1&2 games but also CF and SD slots and 4 USB connections. and i live in a country where one does not need school to get a good job unlike USA. so basically, i live my life in a pretty good way an i just so love toying with little kids like that mattli0 kid and i couldn't give a rat's ass what you people think.

I have to hand it to Square-Enix for taking risks and making changes unlike other games and their sequels.

Wow what an awesome game. Just played the first couple of hours and so far so good! I have some clips on my channel of the game play. The combat is odd at first but you'll get use to it after a few battles.

I simply stated that the game had a confusing storyline, but it's probably from the lack of... ANYTHING useful in the trailer. Yes, I understand Japanese, so don't go google translating on me. However, not liking a storyline does not mean I can't like a game. It's like watching the Eragon movie when it sucked compared to the movie, yet saying it was good on it's own.
Therefor, I fail to see your point.

Japanese use English letters because it's part of a system for us to understand. Each symbol spells out 1, 2, or 3 letters we can understand as one syllable and we have an easier time of looking it up in a dictionary. Hiragana and katakana are part of this. Check them out.

Both, but the x-box version has three discs, and still compresses, the ps3 version has one bluray disc and no compression.

never can go wrong with the perfect graphics...but I have to agree with previos comments on machinery getting a bit overused. Sigh. Final Fantasy hasn't had a big great hit {at least to me} since after 10 perhaps. I really hope this one doesn't end up letting me down. :D

I havnt played through all of 10 yet...i completed 7 and crisis core and fuckin loved them! they were great...on FFX i am at the part just after i have been washed up on the beach so not very far at all...but i do love the game so far...it seems so fresh and fun...and the battle theme...WOW...im hoping to play 8 & 9 when they put then up on PSN

My point was that that having to switch discs is no big deal. How does that make the 360 version any worse the PS3 version? It didn't hurt the good 'ole RPGs on the PS1.

Those characters had distinct personality's
squall was a lonewolf dick head, cloud was quite, smart ass, tidus was the happy go lucky guy. I never played 9. Pluss each character looked different, color wise based on cloths and crazy hair styles that made them stick out alot. I see these characters as meh, because they dont have no wacky hair style, they dont wear any colors that make them stick out, and their personality's feel all to much the same.
