According to the USMC a 7.63x39 round will penetrate 36" of sand, unless sand is wet or packed tight. Would your 5.56 penetrate 36" of sand? That's why USMC cannot rely on single width sandbag and our opponents can. Doesn't sound like a big difference unless you're the guy filling the sandbags at the end of a long day.
Honestly they could make the AK much more accurate but the whole idea was to make a rugged rifle that was cost efficient. (thicker barrel, milled reciever, etc.) However, they do have an AK74 and AN94 that was the answer to all those issues. The Yugo AK variant was probably the best AK47 type rifle ever made. Quite possibly even better than its Russian "father".
online or at your local gunstore assuming you don't live in califroniastan or new yitty. it'll run you anywhere from 500$ up to 1200$, but most 500$ ones are good enough and aesthetics play a role over reliability. Just make sure the barrel is chrome lined, so stay away from yugo AKs
@esh325 Correct, most people jump on the fact that chrome lining = rust resistance and longevity but as long as you take proper care of your barrel, civilian semi auto use, especially with non-corrosive shouldn't wear it down as drastically. I heard Yugos are more accurate since their barrels don't heat up as fast.
No, apparently when the Soviet Union started to outsource the AK47 to out countries, they gave up the rights for any form of royalties. The Russia of today had tried to get exclusive rights to any AK being produced
The biggest thing the AK has going for it is the magazines.
The M16/M4/AR15 has a relatively weak magazine design... they are basically made to be disposable. They are cheap stamped aluminum. Most failures are magazine related, not failures of the rifle's mechanism.
The AK has a monster of a magazine. Feed lips machined out of steel billet. You could hammer in tent stakes with an empty AK magazine.
That is the secret to Kalashnikov reliability... "bullet proof" magazines.
Your wrong because the biggest thing the AK47 has going for it is its reliability and ease of use. Right now children, even kids as young as like 10, can be taught to use AK47s, no problem.
Also its reliability. The rifle can be ran over, clogged with dirt, and bent up and still fires no problem. I saw a video where the operator disassembled the gun and shoved dirt in it, then reassembled it and it fired no problem.
I know first hand 11 year olds can be taught to use an AR15. Both are very simple weapons.
That is not a practical test. Why would you ever realistically open the rifle up and fill it with mud? Good way to get a barrel obstruction and lose a few fingers. They can, and do, blow up when people do stupid "tests".
The most common failure of the AR15 is the magazine. With no mag failures, an AR15 is VERY reliable.
Right... and the reason the AK is reliable is because it suffers practically zero magazine related stoppages. Most firearms that suffer a failure, have a problem with the magazine. The ChauChat, for example.
The AK has feed lips machined from solid steel billet. They are massive. The AK magazine is amazingly tough. RUn ti over with a truck, drop it off of your house. It will remain in good condition.
Lol we dont do Force on Force training anymore. Now at NTC we just go the the BOX (field) and play Iraqis and BLUFOR just come and get some training AKA get their A S S E S wooed..lol
u just think that the m16 is better cuz u think that accuracy of rifle wins wars. spraying bullets and suppression is what keeps the enemy down and the shere firepower keeps the enemy scared.quantity with enough quality is better then just pricey quality. either way most engagements r 200m and less so the ak 47 is can take that anyday.
i agree with unit the ak series is way superior over the armalite company rifles. it takes about 10,000 shots of an ak before jam compared 2 an mi16s 200-300. the ak 47 is a great rifle. shere firepower is better. still the best rifle in the world. the new ak series have improved the flaws of the older models. the new ones recoil is almost non existant fully customized with attachments and super reliable and accurate. ak 103 is the only one with some-moderate recoil. of the new series
You realize the 5.45x39mm Is inferior to our 5.56x45mm, right? That is comparing the AK74 and M16. From the shorter barreled AKS-74u... ballistics both external and terminal are reduced even more.
If you join the army as a grunt, you don't get to demand shit. They have demands... you do as you are told. It isn't a democracy where everyone gets to pick their own crap weapon.
I'll laugh when you run outta ammo, and all your buddies with M4s can't help you out.
i own both a AR15 and a maadi ak47 and the AR15 is far superior to the ak47 in every way. except for the throw it in the mud and shoot it competition. M16A3 is a much superior rifle compared to the ak47, or the new ak versions
The AK 101 is just as accurate as the M16A2, and is just as reliable as any other AK 47 because the basic design is the same. And the area where you said the AK beats your AR15 is the most important, mainly because in a real battle, dust flies everywhere, or if you have to crawl through mud to avoid being shot. Also keeps in mind that the AK 47 was made in 1947... well started production. The M16A3 is way newer, but the Russian army no longer uses AK 47's they use AK 74' 101's and 103's.
i love the ak, but taken as a whole, Id rather carry an m16 because the accuracy is so much better, and the ergonomics and sights are superior, but yes the ak is more reliable with easier maintenance.,its all about opinion.

I like the Sturmgewehr 44 better, if the war went longer the germans would have developed it even better ex. late 1945, sTg 45 was the weapon leadib=ng to the HK series of weapons post war.
psh, its a well known fact that russians were intrigued by the gas operation the weapon used and quickly brought it back for * inspection* cough. cough.
no, they didn't. stg44-stamped metal ak47 solid metal stg44 7.92X33 (shorted german rifle round) ak47 7.62X39 (shortend russian rifle round) insides are completely different. your an idiot know what your talking about.
cheap, easy to make, with a bullet that causes massive damage and reliability? i saw a documentary where a marine demonstrating an AK soaked the gun in a pool of water, buried it in sand, and drove over it twice with a humvee, each time test firing the gun.
and is 100% reliable. in short.. more reliable than AR-15(M16) even today.. put anything you want inside the barrel except for hard glue.. it will fire..
Ya good luck hitting the body armor in the first place with an inaccurate 60+ year old AK-47. The only reason its good is that its cheap and easy to make.
The M16A2s, M16A3s, M16A4s, and M4/M4A1s are so much more reliable than the first one. Everyone thinks all M16s jam, but only the first one did. Plus its lighter, more accurate, and the 5.56mm round, although smaller, allows a soldier to carry more ammo and it creates a tumble damage effect, rather than just a plain big bullet. I like both assault rifles though.
but M4 bullet, because of tmble effect will be completely negated by body armor, becuase it tumbles, it will try tumbling in to body armor and will be stoped without harm to the enemy, while AK-47 will get right through, because it does not tumble.
Ak-74 and later variants except Ak-103 also all tumble.
Well. It is my weapon of choise... Cus ut kick ass, and taking names... To bad they are no longer manucfactured, i get pissed off knowing the millitary is gonna use the 416 instead...
He has, he showed me his SA858, he put together, with a Kalashnikov RPK Barrel, the interchangable varient obviosuly.. so Ill see how that goes.. but I want the short varient, and prefer the Kalashnikov Barrel to the VZ58.. unless somehow magically the VZ58 barrel is as good as the Kalashnikov Barrel.. anyways cheers
And Also the G36 is banned in many countries.. So is the 'AK47', otherwise known as the AK47,AKM,M47,AK74,Type56,And other Varients.. so they are hard to find.. for me.. In Canada, I need a prohib License to purchase one, and you can not get a prohibited license anymore.. so I will get the next best thing.. a Czech SA/VZ58.. completely legal, and as orgasmic as the original Kalashnikov.. with Interchangable parts so I can just make myself an AK.. Huzzah!
Well a good rule of thumb is to know if your gunsmith have put a VZ58 together with some parts from a AK like you mention. Just cause your gunsmith think it does, doesn't mean does fit. Of course you can mod the hell out of fixed parts to fit, but that is more troublesome than it needs to be. Well have fun...
Heckler and Kotch G36 and a Soviet Milled AK47 made in the early 1950s. Im prity sure the G36 is the most reliable assult rifle made today. any commments?
Heckler & Koch is amazing, I do admit, I prefer the G1 and G3 varients compared to the G36, since the 5.56x45mm is too light and problematic.. but that does not make it a good firearm.. I do say they are equel in reliability, since everyone bases their opinions off of video games and hollywood, instead of going out and doing it themselves.. Now a G36 compared to the Chinese type 56, which resembles, but is NOT an 'AK47', the HK's would easily out-test it like hell..
But for the Actual Russian original M47's, known as the 'AK47', And the AKM series, I would prefer over the G36 for the reasons of better reliability, mass parts, incredibly accurate, powerfull cartridge compared to a 5.56x45mm, Cheap (370$ from the Iszmesh Factory in Moscow, compared to the 3700$ for a G36A from the HK Factory in Berlin), and it Never Ever Ever Jams.. The G36 doesnt Jam, but I prefer a powerfull cartridge, lower fire rate, and mass quantities of ammunition availible
I hate to break it to you, but the AK47 is anything, but accurate, the crap made barrels kills the accuracy. The G36, may not be as powerful, but a headshot, heartshot, any fatal shot will kills just as fast as any other bullet, other than maybe a .50 cal which tear people apart faster than a blink of an eye.
AK are know to beable to do 2"-4"groups at 100yds. So I don't know how much accurate hits are you actually trying to get. It sure is not the barrel that is killing the accuracy, But the long stroke gas system that affects the whole barrel, and sheet metal setup with very loose tolerances. If you tight the manufacture tolerances, it can get pretty go accuracy, PSL for a fact is an AK variants made to DMR role.
Precisely, but the Kalashnikovs I use are quite accurate, not as accurate as H&K's, but also consider its not a damned sniper's rifle, you wont be shooting father than 800ft in a normal combat zone, or hunting deer for that matter.. and I compare it with the Authentic AR15 series (Armellites I have respect for, but Colt's overheat too fast), and I have outshot it by a long shot, and both were surplus firearms with new barrels
A type-56 is the exactly an AK47. All the parts are dead interchange and quality it just as good if not better. The only difference is the "Made in China" parts. It seem you don't know shit from feces, as you say VZ58 are interchange with AK and 56s are not AK. Plus early G36 tend to fall apart as heat buildup, but currently sort of remedy the problem.
I'm not a fan of the 5.56 NATO round either. The G3 tops my list of assault rifles and I would venture to say that the lack of a gas system of any kind has to give it a slight edge in reliability over even the venerable AK. There just isn't alot that can go wrong with the action.
the AK is no doubt the best gun in the world atm, 2nd to maybe m16, ak never jams, easy to clean, semi and auto mode and u can drop it off a 50 storey building and it would still work
not really, it maybe cheap but the chinese variations are alot cheaper and are of smmaller caliber making the ammunition more accesisble/cheaper since 7.62 has been banned already for a few years (yes, google it). in a few more you will most probably see people using the chinese variations.
3. Cost effectiveness; it can be produced in mass quantities cheaply.
4. Simple and rugged design; meaning it can be maintained easily and quickly (especially import during war). Soldiers can be trained to use and maintain it just as easily and quickly.
5. The 7.62 × 39 mm cartridge is extremely powerful and has effective stopping power.
The Avtomat Kalashnikova is by far the best assault rifle in the world:
1. Most widely used assault rifle in the world, meaning if need be, you can find ammo and repair parts/magazines in the field (depending on the variant).
2. Extremely reliable (well a "place_your_favorite_assault_rifle_here" is just as reliable if you clean it daily).. Depending on the conditions of war, that might not always be possible.
it doesnt matter if that fighter is good, it will probably fall apart after a few years just like other sukoi garbage. even the migs arent safe. I wouldnt ever invest in russian machinary, especially looking at how countries who own Sukois and Migs usually have about 4/5 of their fleet grounded because parts are rare, I know because my old man worked for P&W for many years and GE and year after year the horror stories of russian machinary.. sigh
Which country currently owns the world? America. America arms its frontline troops with the M-16A2 or its variants. The M-16A2 is of course a more complex weapon compared to the AK types, I know, I own both. Which one would I bet my life on? Either one, because it all comes down to the shooter and depends on training and experience.
No, the last I heard it was china that owns America. Cause the US owes over nearly 1 trillion to them. They own pretty close up to date technology, and definitly have 100x more man power compare to us
You should see the M16 after a few mags. If lucky it doesn't jam before, you start to see the bullet drop closer and closer in front of you like a water hose getting it's water turn off. AK do have some better metal quality, it's accuracy may suck cause of huge tolerances, but it will keep shooting even if it catchs on fire.
The M16 sucks too, the only reason why it hasn't been replaced was that Colt made bribes to Senators. Any gun like the Aug, F2000, G36, etc are far better than that crappy M16.
The AK is ok at ranges from 50 to 250 meters but not much more. Its very inaccurate and the recoil is pretty high if you compare it to other rifles with even more power. Propably it was the best assault rifle back in the 50s but not today anymore.
But however... Its very cheap, easy to maintain, and relatively reliable but by far not as reliable as many say.
kalašnjikov is simple and efficent rifle ,i would like dare to say that almoust all russian weapons are simple and efficent ,but american weapons ehhh too much plastic ,lot expensiv and not as nearly realible (sry for my english) also i used M-16 ,M1A1 and i am not impressed ,they are sligthly accurate exept that ak can use small bomb bullets that can explode while hittin in hard object increasin chance of hit by 35% ,in all ak is probably best close range autimatic rifle in world...

psh, its a well known fact that russians were intrigued by the gas operation the weapon used and quickly brought it back for * inspection* cough. cough.
LgndryThndr 4 years ago
Both the Kalashnikov and the Stg-44 were long stroke gas operated firearms, but the Stg-44 operated from a tilting block and the AK is a rotary bolt.
The AK's trigger mechanism also shares similarities to that of the M1 Garand.

no, they didn't. stg44-stamped metal ak47 solid metal stg44 7.92X33 (shorted german rifle round) ak47 7.62X39 (shortend russian rifle round) insides are completely different. your an idiot know what your talking about.

cheap, easy to make, with a bullet that causes massive damage and reliability? i saw a documentary where a marine demonstrating an AK soaked the gun in a pool of water, buried it in sand, and drove over it twice with a humvee, each time test firing the gun.

The late M16 AR15 is more reliable and accurate
the Late AK-47's is also more accurate
and is 100% reliable. in short.. more reliable than AR-15(M16) even today.. put anything you want inside the barrel except for hard glue.. it will fire..

Ya good luck hitting the body armor in the first place with an inaccurate 60+ year old AK-47. The only reason its good is that its cheap and easy to make.
bdogg101 4 years ago
The later versions of the AK are more accurate. Look up the AK- 107 and 108.

isnt there another part to this episode??
theend333 4 years ago
The M16A2s, M16A3s, M16A4s, and M4/M4A1s are so much more reliable than the first one. Everyone thinks all M16s jam, but only the first one did. Plus its lighter, more accurate, and the 5.56mm round, although smaller, allows a soldier to carry more ammo and it creates a tumble damage effect, rather than just a plain big bullet. I like both assault rifles though.
bdogg101 4 years ago
but M4 bullet, because of tmble effect will be completely negated by body armor, becuase it tumbles, it will try tumbling in to body armor and will be stoped without harm to the enemy, while AK-47 will get right through, because it does not tumble.
Ak-74 and later variants except Ak-103 also all tumble.

best assault rifle in the world by far surpassing any other with the exception of the G33

Strictly speaking, the G3 isn't an assault rifle, it's a battle rifle, since it uses a full power cartridge

Maloney001 5 years ago
And Also the G36 is banned in many countries.. So is the 'AK47', otherwise known as the AK47,AKM,M47,AK74,Type56,And other Varients.. so they are hard to find.. for me.. In Canada, I need a prohib License to purchase one, and you can not get a prohibited license anymore.. so I will get the next best thing.. a Czech SA/VZ58.. completely legal, and as orgasmic as the original Kalashnikov.. with Interchangable parts so I can just make myself an AK.. Huzzah!
Maloney001 5 years ago
The VZ58 is not interchangable with a AK parts. The only thing they share is the Ammo.
hvuu 5 years ago
Kalashnikov Barrels, and Stocks Do fit in the VZ58 according to my gunsmith.. Reciever parts do not, but that does not bother me
Maloney001 5 years ago
Well a good rule of thumb is to know if your gunsmith have put a VZ58 together with some parts from a AK like you mention. Just cause your gunsmith think it does, doesn't mean does fit. Of course you can mod the hell out of fixed parts to fit, but that is more troublesome than it needs to be. Well have fun...
hvuu 5 years ago
I would like to see a reliabilty test between a
Heckler and Kotch G36 and a Soviet Milled AK47 made in the early 1950s. Im prity sure the G36 is the most reliable assult rifle made today. any commments?
tsw305c 5 years ago
Heckler & Koch is amazing, I do admit, I prefer the G1 and G3 varients compared to the G36, since the 5.56x45mm is too light and problematic.. but that does not make it a good firearm.. I do say they are equel in reliability, since everyone bases their opinions off of video games and hollywood, instead of going out and doing it themselves.. Now a G36 compared to the Chinese type 56, which resembles, but is NOT an 'AK47', the HK's would easily out-test it like hell..
Maloney001 5 years ago
But for the Actual Russian original M47's, known as the 'AK47', And the AKM series, I would prefer over the G36 for the reasons of better reliability, mass parts, incredibly accurate, powerfull cartridge compared to a 5.56x45mm, Cheap (370$ from the Iszmesh Factory in Moscow, compared to the 3700$ for a G36A from the HK Factory in Berlin), and it Never Ever Ever Jams.. The G36 doesnt Jam, but I prefer a powerfull cartridge, lower fire rate, and mass quantities of ammunition availible
Maloney001 5 years ago
I hate to break it to you, but the AK47 is anything, but accurate, the crap made barrels kills the accuracy. The G36, may not be as powerful, but a headshot, heartshot, any fatal shot will kills just as fast as any other bullet, other than maybe a .50 cal which tear people apart faster than a blink of an eye.
nightfire6 5 years ago
AK are know to beable to do 2"-4"groups at 100yds. So I don't know how much accurate hits are you actually trying to get. It sure is not the barrel that is killing the accuracy, But the long stroke gas system that affects the whole barrel, and sheet metal setup with very loose tolerances. If you tight the manufacture tolerances, it can get pretty go accuracy, PSL for a fact is an AK variants made to DMR role.
hvuu 5 years ago
Precisely, but the Kalashnikovs I use are quite accurate, not as accurate as H&K's, but also consider its not a damned sniper's rifle, you wont be shooting father than 800ft in a normal combat zone, or hunting deer for that matter.. and I compare it with the Authentic AR15 series (Armellites I have respect for, but Colt's overheat too fast), and I have outshot it by a long shot, and both were surplus firearms with new barrels
Maloney001 5 years ago
A type-56 is the exactly an AK47. All the parts are dead interchange and quality it just as good if not better. The only difference is the "Made in China" parts. It seem you don't know shit from feces, as you say VZ58 are interchange with AK and 56s are not AK. Plus early G36 tend to fall apart as heat buildup, but currently sort of remedy the problem.
hvuu 5 years ago
I'm not a fan of the 5.56 NATO round either. The G3 tops my list of assault rifles and I would venture to say that the lack of a gas system of any kind has to give it a slight edge in reliability over even the venerable AK. There just isn't alot that can go wrong with the action.
darthvic 5 years ago
the AR is not made of plastic or fiberglass.
the AR is made of aluminum with plastic handguards.
just like the AK is metal with woood handguards.
the AR is more accurate
the AK hits harder
the AK is 100%more reliable than any AR/M16
the AK can be had in several different calibers such as .22lr,.223/5.56x45, 5.45x39,7.62x39 and .308
the AR can also be had in those calibers and more.
in america the semi auto AK costs about $350
the AR cost about $800

mamypokopants 5 years ago
not really, it maybe cheap but the chinese variations are alot cheaper and are of smmaller caliber making the ammunition more accesisble/cheaper since 7.62 has been banned already for a few years (yes, google it). in a few more you will most probably see people using the chinese variations.

SilensIntro 5 years ago
The Avtomat Kalashnikova is by far the best assault rifle in the world:
1. Most widely used assault rifle in the world, meaning if need be, you can find ammo and repair parts/magazines in the field (depending on the variant).
2. Extremely reliable (well a "place_your_favorite_assault_rifle_here" is just as reliable if you clean it daily).. Depending on the conditions of war, that might not always be possible.
SilensIntro 5 years ago
yes its good but it has a huge flaw - try to LAY down and fire with it, anyone who ever tried to do that knows wha i mean, id like to try the MP44 :)
MrRotweiler 5 years ago
m16 is more of an assult rifle.
ak47 is more like a machine gun.
and, yeah, m16 is made of fibreglass and IT WILL BREAK if youhit it on a hard object.
AK47, on the other hand , is made of wood and steel, no worries of it breaking, its more reliable than the m16.

Russian "War technologies" is the best.
The new "fighter" "Su-45 Berkut" is the best so...
nightfire6, what are you talking about "copies"?
metallist23 5 years ago
it doesnt matter if that fighter is good, it will probably fall apart after a few years just like other sukoi garbage. even the migs arent safe. I wouldnt ever invest in russian machinary, especially looking at how countries who own Sukois and Migs usually have about 4/5 of their fleet grounded because parts are rare, I know because my old man worked for P&W for many years and GE and year after year the horror stories of russian machinary.. sigh
seraph2099 5 years ago
almost everyone i know owns an ak or an ar15.
icpmilinko 5 years ago
Which country currently owns the world? America. America arms its frontline troops with the M-16A2 or its variants. The M-16A2 is of course a more complex weapon compared to the AK types, I know, I own both. Which one would I bet my life on? Either one, because it all comes down to the shooter and depends on training and experience.
Dellman308 5 years ago
No, the last I heard it was china that owns America. Cause the US owes over nearly 1 trillion to them. They own pretty close up to date technology, and definitly have 100x more man power compare to us
hvuu 5 years ago
Russians are too retarded to make their own things. All their technologies are copies of other countries.
Ak47 is reliable, but you can't hit shit with it due to its poorly made barrel.
nightfire6 5 years ago
You should see the M16 after a few mags. If lucky it doesn't jam before, you start to see the bullet drop closer and closer in front of you like a water hose getting it's water turn off. AK do have some better metal quality, it's accuracy may suck cause of huge tolerances, but it will keep shooting even if it catchs on fire.
hvuu 5 years ago
The M16 sucks too, the only reason why it hasn't been replaced was that Colt made bribes to Senators. Any gun like the Aug, F2000, G36, etc are far better than that crappy M16.

Much agreement there.

spacesquirrel10 5 years ago
