When she came 25 years ago..SHE never tried to mimic POPS, SHARON, ZSA ZSA, DULCE or even PILITA..or sound like any of them.
REGINE IS VERY ORIGINAL. She sings Carey or Houston or Dion's songs but she never sounded or even tried to learn vocal techniques to sound like them eventhough that it was very obvious she is a FAN of those singers.
Imagine 25 years of non stop singing ..HEARTFELT, SOULFUL..it's undeniable that she is the ONLY ORIGINAL POP SINGER IN THE PHILIPPINES.

@tonyman2c . tony, regine velasquez is the best if not the greatest (like superman) singer among her contemporaries. and these songs are written full of love and emotion (something like the do's and dont's of being deeply in love) by superb/brilliant composers.
everything here is perfect except for the mind of the one who handles the cameras. ano ba talaga kuya? make up ur mind? ang gulo ng palit-palit ng angle. it's so fast, it loses the solemnity of the mood. nakakaasar. it's always like that even in sop. they shud study how abs does the shots and the angle. nakakapikon!
Covering songs doesn't mean you are imitating them. Ever heard of the word "interpretation"? Regine sings MC song because she can and she wants to. BUT NEVER the "MARIAH WAY". If you will see how they both play with their vocals you will NOTICE the BIG difference - from tone production to vocal technique.
Well, it is so CLEAR NOW who has the better technique and who is practicing healthier singing. RV can still go up and down her scale, LIVE, while we can hear nothing but air in MC's voice.
no melisma or whistle or any other signatured mariah style of singing can make these canseco's songs as moving as regine's rendition. my point is, regine should learn the whistle and that whispering husky register or whatever they call it, reinvent herself and make an rnb album. if she really wants to rival mc in that style of singing. all these being said. im both an rv and mc fan, depending on the songs they sing.
NO whistling for RV. She doesn't need it! I still maintain that the song must be "sang" not whistled. Exactly, why she earned the heart and adoration of the Filipino people even before MC was known. For the purpose of discussion, her light voice and musicality is more than sufficient already to make MC's voice inferior in terms of consistently playing the notes within her chosen vocal onset even w/o register breaks.
Only fans are giving this notion that there is a rivalry existing bet. them
Interpretation is basically individual - manner, style, feeling, etc. The same performer can even have different interpretations on the same song base on his/her current mood.
Song literature and true singing knows no nationalistic or lingual boundaries. You don't limit yourself on a particular genre. You explore. It's part of vocal education.
Regine's vocal journey that spans 3 decades is probably the most interesting thing that happens in Philippines Music.
hi, u actually have a point here. i just hope this is the point ms regine has when doing those songs. i mean, come on. let us be honest. the reason why they say ms regine mimmick mc is because she keeps on singing her songs. and the way those songs we're made are for the tone and style of mc. it's like mc trying to sing these canseco songs. mc would definitely be a laughing stock when that happens. coz she can never sing it the way it shud be sung.
Again, no song can claim that they must sang by a particular artist only nor be played through a guitar or a flute or a piano only. That's why the term "arrangement" exists.
If MC will try to sing a canseco song like this, she CANNOT. But if someone will arrange the song based on MC's singing ability she CAN. We can only guess of the result. Never say Never!*smile*
I'm not a MC fan but there are MC songs I appreciated because of RV's MELODIC but POWERFUL approach esp. Butterfly.
what's my point really in all of these? it pains my heart when i hear comments that we filipinos are trying to be what or who we are just to seek the approval of other races. maybe these singers do not really compete each other at all. they are just showcasing their prowess. but just like fruits, it's not correct to compare apples and bananas for their redness or yellowness. another point im trying to raise is this: u beat someone in his own race. that way u can judge who's better properly.

everything here is perfect except for the mind of the one who handles the cameras. ano ba talaga kuya? make up ur mind? ang gulo ng palit-palit ng angle. it's so fast, it loses the solemnity of the mood. nakakaasar. it's always like that even in sop. they shud study how abs does the shots and the angle. nakakapikon!

Covering songs doesn't mean you are imitating them. Ever heard of the word "interpretation"? Regine sings MC song because she can and she wants to. BUT NEVER the "MARIAH WAY". If you will see how they both play with their vocals you will NOTICE the BIG difference - from tone production to vocal technique.
Well, it is so CLEAR NOW who has the better technique and who is practicing healthier singing. RV can still go up and down her scale, LIVE, while we can hear nothing but air in MC's voice.

no melisma or whistle or any other signatured mariah style of singing can make these canseco's songs as moving as regine's rendition. my point is, regine should learn the whistle and that whispering husky register or whatever they call it, reinvent herself and make an rnb album. if she really wants to rival mc in that style of singing. all these being said. im both an rv and mc fan, depending on the songs they sing.

NO whistling for RV. She doesn't need it! I still maintain that the song must be "sang" not whistled. Exactly, why she earned the heart and adoration of the Filipino people even before MC was known. For the purpose of discussion, her light voice and musicality is more than sufficient already to make MC's voice inferior in terms of consistently playing the notes within her chosen vocal onset even w/o register breaks.
Only fans are giving this notion that there is a rivalry existing bet. them

Interpretation is basically individual - manner, style, feeling, etc. The same performer can even have different interpretations on the same song base on his/her current mood.
Song literature and true singing knows no nationalistic or lingual boundaries. You don't limit yourself on a particular genre. You explore. It's part of vocal education.
Regine's vocal journey that spans 3 decades is probably the most interesting thing that happens in Philippines Music.

hi, u actually have a point here. i just hope this is the point ms regine has when doing those songs. i mean, come on. let us be honest. the reason why they say ms regine mimmick mc is because she keeps on singing her songs. and the way those songs we're made are for the tone and style of mc. it's like mc trying to sing these canseco songs. mc would definitely be a laughing stock when that happens. coz she can never sing it the way it shud be sung.

Again, no song can claim that they must sang by a particular artist only nor be played through a guitar or a flute or a piano only. That's why the term "arrangement" exists.
If MC will try to sing a canseco song like this, she CANNOT. But if someone will arrange the song based on MC's singing ability she CAN. We can only guess of the result. Never say Never!*smile*
I'm not a MC fan but there are MC songs I appreciated because of RV's MELODIC but POWERFUL approach esp. Butterfly.

what's my point really in all of these? it pains my heart when i hear comments that we filipinos are trying to be what or who we are just to seek the approval of other races. maybe these singers do not really compete each other at all. they are just showcasing their prowess. but just like fruits, it's not correct to compare apples and bananas for their redness or yellowness. another point im trying to raise is this: u beat someone in his own race. that way u can judge who's better properly.

1) im a regine fan.
2) she has a certain style of singing that amply fits filipino music.
3) i somehow am sad when she tries to sing a la mariah, etc.
4) she has her own niche and place in the world of music and singing, i wish she stop trying to copy others.
5) she doesnt have to sing a la mariah just to prove something. she has already proven it.
6) she should move forward. take dancing lessons, lose weight and tone her body, hire a voice coach. and reinvent herself. and do that whistle.
