@snakeater21 It doesn't say anywhere in the nursery rhyme that he is an egg, but there could be many explainations for why he is portrayed as one.

He is illustrated for a rhyme in one of the Alice in Wonderland books, and Alice actually says, "You look like an egg".

It was a riddle, too, and you can't put an egg back together, which was the point of that.

Also, "humpty dumpty" was an 18th century reduplicative for a clumsy person, and eggs have no balance, just as clumsy persons do not.
