  • what is the white stuff

  • Is it recommended to clean the thermal paste from a new gfx card or is it fine like it is?

  • this is rubbish, can't even see what your doing....

  • Is there a way to remove just the plastic cover and not the heatsync from the board?

  • Their a way to just remove the plastic part off the cooler without unscrewing the block.

just wondering cous i known i got masive dust bunny probaly in my heatsink :P

  • how did you intially removed the cooler from the board ??? you skipped that part..

  • ESD damage

  • whats the point of doing a demo like this and just pointing your finger at stuff while music plays in the video!..what u should of done is talk and remove the music!...spoilt!....you may as well as point at your knee for all the relevance it achieves!

  • i like pointing at stuff while i slowly screw off things ;)

  • ASESINO! :P

  • hi guys if you need anything contact me

  • can you get me one? (really)!

  • does putting better thermal grease make it cool better?

  • The thermal paste is what is used to make a solid contact between the heatsink and the gpu, if you looked at the gpu before he put his paste on it only had a little bit on it. He put a better coat of paste and probably a higher quality paste on there.

  • They should put titanium on that lol becase it dosent heats so fast but its alot expensive

  • why you dont instal on your video card the water cooling

  • i change to much VGA.

and i would need another loop for it too, and

    i don't have have actually.

  • Comment removed

  • The stock thermal compound sucks........

  • lol nice work using the nice asus sticker to spread it

  • I reckon you should ditch that fan and zip-tie a couple 120mm ones onto that :)

  • Very beautiful, nice vid

  • I love you moby! Good song choice! Best song. Good vid too. Thinkin about doin this myself and addin a waterblock

  • did this reduce your temps?

  • load temps only slightly

  • by like what? 0.0001 degree?

  • Most GPU I do this to it drops temps 1-2c which can be quite a bit if you overclock ^-^

  • under load 10 degrees with arctic silver 5 instead of the nvidia thermal compound.

  • nice song...whats the name..

  • Porcelain by Moby

  • moast be 3 of mins together to be so huge as that

  • lol thats huge i got 8800gt xfx 256mb and its the slimest card i ever sen

  • Great card mine idles 33c and 58c on load. :) I have the XFX version though.

  • hey, i was thinking of chaning my thermal paste too on my two gtx285, does your gtx285 get lower temps after new thermal paste, and what thermal paste did you using?? let me know ok.

  • warranty voided.

  • EVGA is modder friendly, so no warranty void :D

  • Wow that looks so much simpler than my blasted GX2...the stupid connecting ribbon cables are annoying as can be...and the stupid braces between the 2 PCBs...ugh

  • use IC 7 diamond TIM. its better than as5

  • or even better use Shin Etsu x-23 7783D or Noctuna TIM which are both better that diamond for less cost.

  • silentx is crap!

  • i totally agree... very noisy

  • what's the song plz??

  • I believe it's Porcelain by Moby

  • Why did he do it for?

  • thermal pound switch and cooler show off.

because temps in load of 285 are higher than 280, so i suspected

that this could only be because of the cooler remake.

    cheers

  • You're bad.!!! Nice:D

  • hey mr hydez that is way to much thermal paste you used there! i only use a grain sized drop of arctic silver 5 and spread it with my finger nice vid anyways!

  • I've putted a lot, but i've spread it well to, so

the excess is removed during the process.

    thanks

  • it's the most beautiful naked vga ever.

  • how many frames you get on cod4 everything is max out? i bought gtx 285 black edtion on xfx and a little bit faster than this card... but i only get 60 frames on 1400x1050 the same on gtx 9800 which is my old card....wtf

  • no you have the frame limiter for Cod4 thats by many graphichips becasue the CPU brake the graphicchip that he dont get any damage!

i dont know how you get i it away!

  • Ur resolution is low for the card. These cards excel with filters and high resolutions.

    Frame Limiter? Seriously?

  • how can i get rid of the frame limiter?

  • Try turning V-sync off

  • turn off vsync...

  • they reduced the die size from 576mm2 to 470mm2, even tough, with this cooler at load i belive 285 gets hotter than 280.

and they've manage to reduce TDP from 236W = 65nm to 183W peak power = 285 my idle temp with 181.22 drivers is 40ºc but

    remember this 285, 260 55nm do not

    support hybrid power no longer.

  • hope you cleaned the old tp of the cooler otherwise that be silly lol.

  • well of course the pounds are completly different

  • good! or = unsubscribe. :)

  • can i pare this with 600w psu? some site says minimum is 550 some says 660? idk

  • Depends on which PSU you have. A 600W Sweex and a 500W Corsair are a huge difference.

  • hi guys temps dropping, today ~35ºc/36ºc idle

and with little luck they might get even better

    will see...

    cheers

  • well it increased i have to be honest.

from 36ºc idle to 43ºc idle, as the thermal pound gets dry better temps i get.

load temps without changing anything it hit 80ºc

playing crysis, that's one of the reasons why

i've removed the cooler so you can compare

    with 280 65nm, because i think 280 as better

    load temps after all.

    cheers

  • way too much as5

  • i'm not going for wc, and you should see the amount of their paste they're using...

double ou triple my amount... lol

and temps are following the original!

  • Nice video, and one more time, great music...

I think it is a high risk to open the graphic, even so, you show us, great care in handling...

Did you draw your static energy???

  • i'm not fuc#*n static... but hey thanks joe

  • lol nikatine patch on his wrist at 4:20+

  • nice vid putting paste on the chip is hard with one hand lol

  • why do they even bother putting the nvidia logo on the chip...I think the person that bought a 300 pound graphics card would know, especially since most wont romove the case

  • i think its s nice touch

  • at idle the gtx 285 is cooler than a 280 by 8c

but and load not alot of diffrence

    "they redesigned the cooler"

i like the song i keep hearing "pie pie goodbye saddam" :P

  • this gpu die is 8 times larger then my hd3870's gpu die :D

  • The gtx 200 series graphics cards have an integrated heat spreader covering the gpu. Not like ati which is a bare die.

  • but why heat spreader :(

some people lapped their 280's lol

  • I'm not sure what you are asking...

I'll assume it's "why is there a heatspreader?" The main reason for an IHS (integrated heatspreader) is to protect the core from being crushed, at the expense of higher thermal resistance.

  • there was no heatspreader on a 9800gtx :|

alot of people remove the ihs on intel cpu's and they never get broken

did and one attempt to lap a gtx 280/285

  • Probably because the die is so big that it might be possible to snap it in half if the heatsink screws are too tight. IDK...just my guess. Companies try to get out of as many RMA's as possible. hehe...

  • nice vid

    thanks
